Breakfast is one of the best ways to recharge your batteries. It is a perfect time to boost your energy. Studies also suggest that eating a healthy breakfast improves brain function particularly memory and recall. This is essential for soaking up new knowledge and applying it later for a big test. Research shows that eating a healthy breakfast improves one academically. Scientists believe it may be because breakfast supplies nutrients to the nervous system to rev up brain power. Breakfast skippers tend to weigh more than those who eat breakfast regularly. Also, those who eat a morning meal tend to make healthier food choices throughout the day, which can positively impact weight and long-term health. Encourage eating breakfast daily at home or school and make it easy and
Generally speaking, there are many factors that affect children’s behavior. One of the factors is health. Health is a general condition of a person’s mind and body that determines the quality of life, thus will affect a child’s behavior if not properly taken care of. One of the daily needs, food, can bring a negative impact from skipping meals especially breakfast which is essential to fuel the body to start the day. Often, there are reports from teacher where children who skipped breakfast are less attentive and having discipline problems in class (Warilla Women's Refuge, 2013). Studies had shown that children who have meals regularly on time can absorb information better than those who do not (Johns, 2009). Another cause that had long...
Lunch time is a time to take a break from the day and recharge for the rest of the day. In elementary schools it is also a time to meet up with your friends and socialize. Lunch time is not only time to eat. It is important for the mental, social, and emotional health of the children as well. Children need them chance to unwind and destress, which is promoted by socializing with friends. “Lunch should be an enjoyable part of the school day for students, offering a break from classroom work and a place to relax, socialize, and become nourished.”("The Cafeteria: Creating a Positive Mealtime Experience", 2013) Lunch time should be done in a setting where
“I’m sorry I am late, I overslept” or “I can’t make morning appointments, I have a hard time waking up in the morning.” These are the infamous excuses and reasoning’s I have abused time after time for my repetitive failure to accept the help my alarm clock offers every morning. For the longest time, I have shared a deep passion with sleeping in. However, this passionate habit of mine has cost me a lot of losses from losing responsibilities that were entrusted to me as well as losing valuable time each day. Having accustomed myself to this comfortable habit, I have neglected the fact that I am being given twenty-four glorious hours each day to accommodate my responsibilities as a human being. With each day wasted, I tend to live a more stress filled lifestyle because after I wake up each afternoon, I anxiously spend the remaining hours of my day trying to make up for lost time. After being fed up with my delayed lifestyle, I had no one to blame but myself. To help me battle my habitual sleeping in, I turned to the help of Laura Vanderkam’s book, What The Most Successful People Do before Breakfast.
Contrary to what many believe, a diet is only a temporary way to lose weight and not some dramatic change of lifestyle that automatically gets someone positive results like it claims to do. A study by UCLA researchers has shown that dieting does not work. In fact, dieters may be worse off in the long run than non-dieters. This is due to the fact that most people who go on diets not only regain the weight they lost, they gain even more. In the short term, dieting seems like a good idea, as an individual “can initially lose 5 to 10 percent of... [his or her] weight on any number of diets...” However, “then the weight comes back.”, claims UCLA associate professor Traci Mann. Diets are simply not effective in the long term, as multiple studies have found. In one particular study that tracked participants for two years, it was found that 23% of participants who were tracked for less than two years had gained back more than they lost, while 83% participants that were followed for more than two years gained back more weight than they had lost. Another study found that “50 percent of dieters weighed more than 11 pounds over their starting weight five years after the diet…” In fact, diets can be more harmful in the long term than taking no action. The cycle of gaining weight then losing it has been linked to “cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes, and altered immune functions.” It is not known what causes this but its very detrimental to your health.
In an online article entitled “What is Healthy Eating and a Good Diet?” by Professor Daniela Jakubowicz, Jakubowicz stated that healthy eating means consuming the right quantities of foods from not one, but all of the food groups. Nutritionists say there are five main food groups: whole grains, fruit and vegetables, protein, diary, and fat and sugar. A good diet is a very nutritional lifestyle that promotes good health in an individual. But the fact that the obesity epidemic rate is increasingly growing in the United States, in both adults and children, we can see that not all individuals are living a healthy lifestyle. But what exactly is obesity?
Childhood Obesity is a condition of being grossly fat and overweight. When someone exceeds a certain weight for a given height they are considered obese. Lifestyle issues such as too little activities and too many calories from drinks are main contributors of childhood obesity. People eat for two reasons and those are either comfort eat or appetite eat. A study have shown that kids who go without breakfast before school are more likely than classmates to be inactive, unfit and obese. Girls who skip breakfast are 92% more likely obese than female classmates who eat before school, the equivalent figure in boys was 62%. This was notified as a key reason because the kids who didn 't eat breakfast snacked throughout the day and ate late at night
There are many benefits and many possible drawbacks for the participation in a federal school breakfast program. The USDA sponsors the federal school breakfast program. The relationship between hunger and the ability to learn are very closely related. Of the many benefits to a school breakfast program, one includes the assurance that the children are eating a balanced meal during the school day. In turn researchers believe that eating a balanced healthy breakfast leads children in enhancing attention and alertness, energy and motivation, concentration and self-discipline (Ragno, 1994).
Breakfast has been considered as the important meal to begin the day. Majority of parents and educators preferred their child and students to take breakfast to enhance their academic’s performance. Breakfast can be defined as, first meal of the day, taken before or at the start of daily activities, usually not later than 10.00 a.m (Giovannini et. al. 2008). According to Robinson, (1968), Burton, (1976) Wells, (1981) “The concern is based on the common belief that mental and physical performance are below optimal by mid-morning if no breakfa...
The benefits of good nutrition are important for everyone at home and at work. Good health begins with a good breakfast. People who have a morning meal are more likely to take in more vitamins and minerals, and much less fat and cholesterol. (WebMD, 2008) The effect is often a leaner body and less chance of overeating and going to the vending machine during work hours. Researchers at the 2003 American Heart Association conference reported that breakfast eaters have a lower chance of being obese and getting diabetes. Another study in the International Journal of Food Science and Nutrition concluded that people that eat breakfast cereal daily feel better both physically and mentally compared to the people who almost never ate cereal for breakfast. A Web MD article explains “To get the full benefits of breakfast, the Mayo Clinic recommends a meal with carbohydrates, protein, and a small amount of fat. They say that because no single food gives you all of the nutrients you need, eating a variety of foods is essential to good health.” Even if an employee does not have time to eat before work, because they are rushing to be on time or their morning consists of dealing with children, bringing a breakfast that they can eat as soon as they get to work would be a healthy habit to get into. Multi- tasking is possible when eating cereal, fruit and nuts at the same time as checking voicemail or emails. Good nutrition needs to continue throughout the day. Fruits and vegetables, healthy snacks, drinking water or tea to stay hydrated, and eating dairy products all add to well-balanced meals. For example, eating healthy dinners with fish two times a week can vastly improve a person’s well-being because fish has omega 3 fatty acids.
“One major physical benefit of breakfast that can help school performance is the increase in energy that comes from a morning dose of carbs and protein. Energy provided by breakfast carbs allows children to fully participate in physical activity at school, including physical education, or P.E. classes; recess; and extracurricular activities. Kids who eat breakfast are typically in better health overall as well. They are less prone to obesity and illness, leading to fewer sick days, which can cause kids to fall behind in schoolwork.”
Eating Responsibly To eat responsibly means to know what you are eating and knowing what you are putting into your body, whether it is healthy for you or not. It’s a sad fact that the typical American diet (high in meat and processed foods) is not healthy. There are a lot of different ways to stay healthy, but it can also be very difficult to follow a good diet plan all the time. I know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and I have tried to eat well before all of my classes. I include the necessary protein of eggs and sausage, and include a fruit of some kind.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It usually gives your body the essential nutrients it needs. It provides you with the energy you need to face the day. This is the reason why you should not skip breakfast. Breakfast does not only boost your body’s metabolism but can also jump-start your brain. When you take breakfast, you normally give your muscles glycogen. This means that you will have more energy and you won’t feel like a slug. This can make you to become more active and this will make you burn several calories. This can also help in weight loss and so on.
In Africa, breakfast is considered too important to be skipped. A light meal is usually consumed early in the morning. A breakfast meal consists

Despite the numerous benefits of eating a nutritious breakfast, surveys show that about 15 percent of teenagers ages 12 to 18 and about 30 percent of adults ages 18 to 35 skip breakfast. The most commonly used excuse is “I’d eat if I had more time.” According to a survey done by Courtney Harrison, a Lincoln High School staff writer, 48 percent of students say that lack of time is the number one reason that they do not eat breakfast. Many people believe that breakfast helps them lose weight, but this is not necessarily true. In fact, research shows that skipping breakfast can make weight loss more difficult. In addition, a recent study found that eating a high fiber cereal at breakfast decreased caloric intake at lunch. Also, it is proven that people who skip breakfast tend to eat a lunch high in fat and cholesterol.
