Have you ever had your boyfriend cheat on you? In the novel Maybe Someday, Sydney, who is musically talented, finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her with her best friend. Sydney is not only left heartbroken, but she also has nowhere to go. One day, she notices her neighbor playing guitar on his balcony. Sydney finds out his name is Ridge, and he plays a beautiful sound on his guitar despite being deaf. Ridge spends more time with Sydney so she can help him write song lyrics. They both feel this intense chemistry, but Ridge is loyal to his girlfriend, Maggie. Once he realizes her neighbor, Sydney, has some true talent, he has hope. Sydney is nervous and doesn't like to share her music with others. She gets out of her comfort zone when she is with Ridge because she trusts him. “Music is what feelings sound like.” (Hoover 85). This quote states that music can express how we feel. You can connect with music if you feel sad, happy, angry, frustrated, or have any emotion. Even though the novel does express the power of music, Sydney also finds love. She is in a toxic relationship. Sydney's Ex cheated on her with her best friend for 8 years. If Ridge had never told her about it, she probably would have never found out. She gets broken-hearted, but Ridge is also there to comfort her. Sydney slowly starts falling in love with Ridge and realizes how good of a man he is. “There isn't a doubt in my mind that we could be perfect for each other's life, Sydney.” (Hoover 127).
