Literature Review
MEP stands for Mechanical, electrical and Plumbing. MEP engineers/coordinators are professionals responsible for managing the MEP systems in the construction of a building. MEP systems may include HVAC systems, Ducts, storm water drainage system. MEP engineers/coordinators are usually hired or employed by constructions firm. This profession requires the MEP professionals to have the requisite technical knowledge and management skills to manage their work.
Their job may include but is not limited to:
• Planning
• Budgeting
• Hiring personnel
• Coordinating project team
• Preparing technical reports
• Ensuring safety
• Managing subcontractors
The coordination of MEP systems can be very challenging, especially in multifaceted buildings and industrial plants. The process begins with identifying the requirements, getting the delivery of components and aligning them with contract drawings. It is a very tedious and time consuming process. The MEP systems are a very enormous cost component of any building, this requires the personnel in in charge to be very skillful and cautious. MEP systems require a very tight coordination between all the personnel involved to ascertain and resolve the problems. MEP coordination requires the persons to integrate the knowledge of construction, operation and maintenance of every single MEP system. As of now the MEP professionals face the uphill task of coordinating and efficiently delivering the MEP systems. There is a deficiency of proper tools and software’s to facilitate this cumbersome process.

The use of reliable technology and software which actually help expedite the process should be used. The delivery procedures can be improved by various lean techniques. The inventory can be used reduced using the pull mechanism and cross docking system make the process simplified. The network of suppliers and partners can be created who respect your deadline. The personnel could be trained and the process can be standardized, people who really understand the work.
