Longer School Days Argumentative Analysis

In the current education system, there is a controversy where some argue that we need longer school days in order to spend further time on curricular activity. On the other hand, some explain that the original 6.5-7 hour days are perfect and still contribute time for sports, family, other recreational activities, and even additional school work that you can catch up on. However, both agree that the student’s requirement of proper schooling should come first. The article “Time to Think” provides both sides of the argument sufficiently.

Both sides of the debate have similarities. These two opinions both have the student’s best interest in mind and are putting the children before their thoughts. They feel as though the need for children to be prosperous is essential. Longer school days states, ” The additional hours enable teachers to spend more time on each subject.” This half of the dispute believes that bonus time is beneficial to their academic enhancement. However, the opposite side of the discourse proclaims, ” Critics argue that extended school days could be too long for today’s busy kids. And extra school time might prevent students from exploring other interests.” Although, both feel passionate about the demand for flourishing futures and superior schooling of students. …show more content…

The side favoring longer days says, ” Harris explains that her students get longer recesses and more snack time.” One student also comments, ”The kids get so involved in these things because it’s not all book work.” However, they argue, “They are concerned that they wouldn’t be able to concentrate during the last classes of the day.” Also students have complained about having to stay later.
