All is normal right? Wait, it is the beginning of August. Most kids are still on summer break. Would you like to be in school in the beginning of August? I think year round schools are a bust! The cost is high and the scheduling and activities are low. Year round school is when you go to school all year and have two week breaks often. I go to traditional school and my summer break starts in June and ends in August. I prefer regular school. Usually year round school starts in the month of August and traditional school starts in the month of September. They have longer spring breaks and Christmas breaks

For example air conditioning will be more costly to be on all summer. Also buses are expensive for repair and gas. For example another reason is teachers, you will have to pay them for all year and janitors and other maintenance. Doesn’t that sound like a waste of money? From the article “Disadvantages to Year - Round Schools,” ” it is hard to schedule for whole family bonding time.” Another reason I am against year round school is scheduling. For example sports, I do soccer and that is in spring and when they have a two week break they would go to the school and practice their sport. That’s an extra trip to school. Scheduling in general would be a problem. Like if you had summer camp that is important, you probably wouldn't have time because of school and in year round school you don't really have much a summer break. For conclusion most of camps are in the summer and with year round school, you would not be able to attend them. Summer jobs are usually in June, July, and August, with summer school you would not able to attend that also. I do not like year round school and these are some reasons why. Scheduling, sports,summer jobs, and summer camp will not be attended because of year round school. Do these reasons change your opinion on year round
Nonetheless, there is some resistance to schools converting to a year-round calendar. Most of that opposition comes from the reduction in intersession length, and some students and/or parents don 't like the idea of year-round education from the start. This gives families a reason to voice their opposition when both the parents and child 's schedules do not line up with one another. This usually affects households that wish to take long vacations over the course of a summer. Parents, in some cases, may oppose this change because of child care needs. Child care raises opposition since there is a shift in the school year calendar. Parents may not be able to find nannies or babysitters. First, the pros of year round schooling can include; effects on absence and burnout rates, effects on budget, more frequent breaks, and also a big effect on academic achievement. The way that year round schooling works to reduce burnout and also reduce absences is that by having more frequent breaks; students are less likely to want to skip class. This is definitely noticeable after spring break where most schools don’t have any days off until the end of the year that is usually more than 2 months straight. In the United States, most schools still use a ten-month calendar that was developed when our country’s students needed school off to help with harvesting (Palmer). Trimble Local Schools Superintendent Kim Jones says, “year-round schooling is the notion of getting away from the old agrarian calendar...which was formed up around the planting season. Students were out of school from April until harvest to work in the fields,” (qtd. in Hapka). Under the agrarian system, most United States students are in school for nine to ten months, and get a two- to three- month summer vacation. However, the United States is no longer an agricultural-based society, and students have no need to take a three-month-long, unnecessary, not to mention disruptive break during the summer months; instead, the United States should switch the school systems to a year-round calendar.
The prime reason for this is because traditional schools do not need to spend extra money on air conditioning (Yeager). This is a necessity in the summer months, whereas heat is in the winter months. Neither the middle and elementary school nor the high school I attended has air conditioning throughout the school. Nor would they have the funds to install a system, for that matter. The reasoning being that my hometown schools recently underwent a vast repairing, renovating, and remodeling period. In addition, other costs of year-round schools would be accumulated through bus transportation and maintenance, lunch supplies, school daycare, extra utilities, and paying the staff for the summer months (Yeager). In conclusion, the advantages of year-round schooling are beneficial to all. If all schools did change to year round schooling, I believe we would be able to teach all the students without having to reteach skills from previous years, it could be done during intersessions. Year-round schooling benefits both the teachers and students. Teachers are able to reflect on their teachings and adjust in time before the next session would begin. The students would feel positive about themselves in school. With this change, we may even be able to accomplish No Child Left Behind.
Although year-round school is not something that most Americans are used to, it is much more beneficial than the original nine-month schooling. Nine-month schooling has been around for a very long time, but it is also out dated. Nine-month schooling was a way to help farmers keep their children at home for extra help during the summer months. Now, more and more people are living in town, and farmers have advanced equipment. Year-round school is a great way to give students and teachers more frequent breaks throughout the school year so they do not get burnt out. Year round schooling sounds rigorous, but in fact it is just a change in schedule. The traditional school year was made with farming families in mind when the families needed their children to help with the crops in the summer. That is why the traditional school year has a three month period where kids are not in school over the summer. In today’s modern world, that does not make any sense because now a days, big huge machines take care of the farms and crops. Also, our economy does not depend on the crops and farms like it did back in the 20th century. The year round school year would still require the same amount of school days as the traditional school year, which is 180 days in the classroom. But instead of a prolonged summer break, it would have a 45-15 plan. 45 days in school and 15 days out of it, which translates to nine weeks in school and three weeks off. The breaks would include three weeks off in fall, winter, spring, and summer. These breaks would be in nine week intervals.
Would you consider going to a school where you learn year-round? Maybe this would be your ideal school, but, when would you get to have some time to go to summer camp, or get a summer job, or play a sport with games during the day? Schools with the traditional schedule may actually be a better choice, and not just because kids love summer break. Schools should have a traditional school year schedule instead of a year round schedule because there isn’t a significant difference between the students’ performance, and year round schedules make planning family vacations hard, make the teachers’ job more difficult, and are more expensive. Also, having a summer break allows kids to participate in activities that they would not be able to do on a year round schedule due to the shorter breaks.

Also with the fact that some teacher have kids that won’t go to the same school has the parent so it one is on year round school and the other isn’t they won’t have the same vacation. So the teacher will have a lot more trouble to make such that the child is taken care
Should school be year-round? Well, I say yes because our young people will get done with High School faster. And if school is year round, students will not have a chance to get in a lot of trouble and they will not be able to join a gang or have time to hang on a block because they will not have a long summer break. Somebody needs to bring this problem to the school board to see if they will make the change to save many students’ lives by keeping them off the streets and keeping them in school all year long. If the children were in school longer, they would most likely turn out better, but it’s up to the people of communities to push kids through school.

Year-round school is somewhat like the traditional 180 days, but just stretched out over a longer period of time with more breaks. As an example, students will attend school for 45 days, then get a three week (15 days) break. A big thing that I think about when I hear year-round school is that they go for a little time period and then get a big break. I think that it is alot better going to school all at once, then getting a big break all at the end. One of the pro's about year-round school is that they get big breaks often, and if you are like me, then that is great. A con to year-round school is that alot of the times parents have a hard time finding childcare. I don't think school be year-round.

The final bell rings, it is the last day of school and summer has finally began! Nobody has to think about school for two and a half months. Expect those who go to an all year school. Year round schooling is a special type of school where children are enrolled in school year round, but their breaks are much more reasonable than normal schools. In fact, did you know that year round schools have been around in the United States since 1969? Also now more than 1.4 million students are enrolled in year round schooling, but there are some people who think these schools should not be part of this situation. Schools should go year round because the students would forget less, have better grades, and even reasonable breaks.
Don't you hate waking up early for school in the morning? Most high school students wake up before the sun rises just to become ready for school. Teenage brains do not begin to function that early considering many are tired from staying up late the previous night. The National Sleep Foundation reported that most teens do not retain enough shuteye, one study found that only 15% reported sleeping eight 1/2 hours on school nights. That fact was extremely true for me when I attended high school. I barely was able to wake up, get dressed, and be in school on time since I was so tired. In my opinion school days should start later, precisely in between 9- 10 o'clock. If the school day started later attendance would improve, students will be more prepared, and student's attitudes and grades may improve.
