Two locally owned famous restaurants in Sedalia, Missouri, El Espolon and El Tapatio, are both recognized as quality, authentic Mexican restaurants that serve Sedalia with outstanding service and great food. After paying each establishment a visit this past weekend, I have discovered some differences and similarities in the two. Although many of my relatives have chosen El Espolon as their favorite, I found El Tapatio to provide a more ethnic experience with their excellent food, sharp service, and clean venue.
One quality that is involved in a restaurant is the atmosphere and the positive energy it gives off. Considering the Western theme, they have the restaurant well decorated from the entrance, to the place where you sit. The walls are painted with tumbleweeds on them, with great lighting that allows you to see, and not go blind. The plates and silverware are very nice, as is the food that goes into them.
Applebee’s is a casual-dining chain owned by DineEquity based out of Glendale California. DineEquity, who also owns IHOP, acquired Applebee’s in 2007 for about $2.1 billion. The chain as of 2013 has over 2000 locations with plans to open even more in the future. The merger with IHOP resulted in being the largest casual dining company world with over 3,000 locations worldwide.

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café is a novel that takes place in the 1980’s, but reminisces of the “good ole’ days” in the 1930’s. Whistle Stop is a small town in Alabama that revolves around the trains that run through the town daily. But, as the railroad business slows down so does the café’s business, causing it to finally shut down. Once the café went away the spirit of the town died with it. People grew old and died or moved away to bigger cities. Large business’s moved in and soon the life that the town of Whistle Stop knew so well was just a faint memory to its former residents. Mrs. Threadegoode, who is a former resident of the town tells the enthralling story to Evelyn, a woman who is in the middle of a mid-life crisis. The story fascinates her and installs new life in a rather depressed woman as she walks down memory lane with Mrs. Ninny Threadegoode at a nursing home.
This novel Paradise of the Blind, written by Duong Thu Huong, is set in the 1980’s. The novel narrates the life of a twenty year old Vietnamese lady, who has been through a great deal of things in her life. While she is on a train to Moscow, Russia, she reflects on her childhood in Vietnam during the time of communism. Throughout the confusing yet great novel, Huong writes the story in the perspective of a main character, Hang, by using many different motifs. No doubt, one main motif is the use and the culture of food that is told throughout the novel. Food is mentioned countless numbers of times, it is very significant through the novel and the Vietnamese culture. This novel, is a great written novel, considering it was banned from Vietnam in 1993. There are many foods mentioned throughout the book, and each of them have a great significance of the culture Vietnam and areas around that region as well as in the book, Paradise of the Blind. The author emphasizes food in the novel, which reveals once status of hierarchy, which also brings in family as a connection with the culture of food they have other homes in Vietnam.
In the documentary Reel Injun by Neil Diamond it talks about how Native Americans are discriminated against in modern and early America. It shows how discrimination affects the natives in multiple ways, some feel as if they are unwanted on America and don’t exist. I never looked to see how many tables my server actually had or how much running I made them do. The sad truth is most people do not notice these details either, which may affect the tip their server will receive. By looking at the attitude and maintenance of restaurant customers, you can classify them into three categories according to their tipping patterns: the “hmm…how good were they? tippers,” “the “stick-to-the-fifteen-percent tippers,” and the “I-am-or-once-was-a-server tippers”.

Hawker centres and food courts are Singapore’s pride and jewel. These dining areas make up our food culture which we have loads of pride in. What makes the food courts and hawker centres in Singapore so different from others in the world? Well, due to the presence of multiculturalism in Singapore, we have many foods originating from many different races, mainly Chinese, Indians and Malays are the three main races in Singapore. Due to this, our food courts and hawker centres sell a myriad of cuisines ranging from local cuisines to western cuisines. Thus, those do dine there are often spoilt for choices and do not know what to buy. However, one thing for sure is that they would most definitely feed their hunger with the delicious food available there. Moreover, on average the cost of food, there is inexpensive. The cost of food ranges from as low as one dollar to a maximum as seven dollars! Thus, what’s there not to love about

TS Vienna is full of food contrasts. PS On one side of the street is Vienna's street food, on the other side are fancy restaurants. SS The sausage stands came really handy, whenever I took a long walk and wanted something to eat while sight seeing. SS They usually serve a proper sausage like Käsekrainer, Bosna, and Burenwurst with fillings like pickles, sauerkraut, and caramelized onions. PS. There are so many gourmet and quality restaurants all over Vienna that sometimes it is hard to pick. SS Once I went to a Viennese tavern, called Wirtshäuser or Beisln, where I had a simple hearty comfort meal, that included some great crispy skinned pork, sauteed sauerkraut, and a cold potato salad. SS I enjoyed it very much! PS The other one I explored, was the restaurant of contradiction between the extravagant and the fun. SS They served Gulasch (similar to steak tartare), basically raw meat. SS Even though it was fancy and I felt like there was royal blood running through my veins, I ended up not eating it, but I paid the full price for it. CS However, it was a great experience and I would love to go back and enjoy more edible food.
