Living in the City vs. Living in the Country The age-old question has plagued many, “Should I live in a city or should I live in the country?”. There are many advantages and disadvantages to choosing a lifestyle in either setting, and careful examination of all aspects is needed to make the perfect decision for you. One major issue affecting many people trying to make the decision on where to live is their quality of life in either extreme. Health, education, transportation are three major concerns that many consider. In a city, pollution surrounds you wherever you step whether on the streets of a busy financial district or on the lawn of a large park. Pollution could possibly cause health problems later in life. In the country, pollution is scarce. Fresh air, rolling green hills, a few pieces of litter here and there but pretty much everything is clean, and wow! No smog, you can see the stars! In the country, childhood education, kindergarten through twelfth grade, is significantly better than in a large city; smaller class sizes and larger budgets create excellent learning environments. In cities, public schools are often plagued with very large classes packed into small spaces. Teachers with low pay, and little or no dedication are thrown into classrooms to teach, resulting in poor education. Transportation is very accessible in city environments. Public transportation, by way of subways, busses and ferries, are cheap and easy ways of getting around a metropolis, whether going out to work, school, or for a night on the town. In the country, everyone needs to have access to his or her own vehicle. A commute to work or school is about an average of forty-five minutes! Cash flow is very important when choosing a living environment. Living in the city can easily be more expensive, if you do not know where to look. But it can also be very competitive with that of your spending in the country. Apartments can be very affordable in a rent-controlled neighborhood, and are much more feasible for families, or students just starting out on their own; whereas, in the country, you may have to buy a home or hard to find cheap rentals. Transportation costs, groceries, taxes, and utilities are common expenditures for any adult. But, many may find that a large amount of money can be saved on these living expenses in a city.
of the original misnamed Mayo Clinic diet, has gained much attention for both its success and failure as a method of weight loss. Studies show that there is no specific nutrient, including carbohydrates, proteins, and even fats, that directly causes a person to gain or lose weight. The pivotal factor in weight loss is the capability to consume less fuel than the body needs to burn in order to function. However, two large weight loss food corporations, Atkins Nutritionals and the South Beach Company, have successfully marketed their own brand of low carbohydrate diets. These low carbohydrate diets share many similarities, while maintaining distinct modifications between the diet methods.
During the 2004 NAACP awards ceremony at Washington, D.C., in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the landmark case Brown vs. Board of Education , Bill Cosby delivers a speech, which would be subsequently referred to as “The Pound Cake Speech, criticizing the lifestyle and lack of parenting in the African–American community. The speech has been severely criticized for it is delivery and topics expressed within it. Author Jerome Corsi notes, "Cosby was attacked both for his flippant tone and because his argument appeared to 'blame the victim' for the racial inequality and racial injustice suffered." The purpose of this essay is to examine why the use of comedy, partitioning of listeners, and scapegoating of African-American parents, as the sole cause of African-American social problems, lead to the poor reception of Cosby's speech.
Naturally, one of the biggest decisions you will need to make is whether you prefer to live in the city or if a suburb is the better option for you. Deciding between these items could affect your school district options, cost of living and the options you have for housing.
During a morning air of DJ Greasman’s radio show he made a racist comment. Approaching the 1999 Grammys, Greaseman played a snippet of a song by Lauryn Hill, who at the time was nominated for 10 Grammys. He followed with the remark “No wonder people drag them behind trucks”. The remark was made in reference of the brutal torture and murder of a black man by the name of James Byrd Jr in Texas. Byrd was decapitated while he was being dragged behind the pickup truck of white
Having lived in two different cities for some years gives me an insight to what the difference between the life in a big city and countryside are all about.
Throughout the years there have been frequent cultural movements in the arts, one of them being postmodernism. This term is well-known as a description of an era, broad and multifaceted movement, postmodernism represents the departure from Modernism, Postmodernism describes a recognized use of the earlier time styles alongside the strong notion in the arts, architecture, literary criticisms, literature, cultures, and recognized use of the earlier time styles, that emerged later in the 19th and
Almost everyone attempts to live a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle is not only important for physical health but mental health as well. Every day, individuals consider changing their eating habits. There are several ways of eating available to chose when aiming for a healthier lifestyle. For example, a multitude of individuals have been converting to the ketogenic way of life. The ketogenic diet was first introduced in the 1920s to help control seizures. There are numerous benefits of the ketogenic lifestyle. The primary reason that various people begin living this way of life is weight loss. They continue the ketogenic lifestyle for the many medical improvements provided by this way of eating. The ketogenic lifestyle is a high-fat
The purpose of the Atkins diet is to change one’s metabolism and lose weight easily by eating foods high in protein and limiting foods high in carbohydrates, which tend to raise blood sugar levels the most. The diet works on the principle of ketosis – the process by which excess, stored body fat (the body’s secondary energy source) is burned, resulting in weight loss. A background understanding of the body’s natural energy system helps to understand Atkins’ rationale. Diets high i...
This paper deals, in broadest terms, with the questions of how artwork is connected to the changes and dynamics that prevail in a society. To describe these changes, I will investigate how a specific type of art reflects its social content in contemporary societies. My analysis is carried out by closely looking at the Pop Art movement, especially with Andy Warhol, who has come to be known as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. It will be argued that Pop Art managed to successfully articulate its time, and in so doing, it became a widely influential art movement whose effect is still very much existent in today’s world of art. In order to prove its claim, this paper relies on the theory of “the field of cultural production” by Pierre
Firstly, we would prefer to live in a less densely populated province where the people are truly joyful. Most importantly, we would like to be respected no matter what job we do as we would prefer to be respected based on our values rather than our financial success. Furthermore, we would like to adapt a lifestyle of our own rather to live by other people’s standards. Finally, we would like to explore the true purpose of the life. I lived for about two years in the city of Southampton in England while studying my masters.
Living and growing up in a small town is better than doing so in a big city.
The late 19th and 20th centuries were full of various technological innovations and major social upheavals. From the conflicts brought by a world at war to the booming revolutions of industry, civilization had gotten quite a boost. This led to new ways of creative expression, in both visual art and literature, that broke the binds of tradition and classical design. The term Modernism can characterize a broad array of styles and techniques, but it encompasses the same core ideals and principals that allows a piece to be easily identified as a Modernist work.
Generally speaking, life in the city is more hectic and clamorous. While a vast majority of Americans pack themselves into our major cities, there are still millions who live outside of the cities. Certainly, there are a lot more activities in the city: shopping malls and restaurants galore, thrift stores, libraries, and concert...
In the 1960s, E.H. Gombrich stated that, as humans, we have an epistemological need to classify things, particularly in the realm of art. However, the Western-Centric master-narrative of Art History has been exposed as flawed in its exclusion of many regions of the world, as well as its dependence on periodization. Adding to the problematic nature of this approach to the history of visual works, this linear framework of the evolution of art has hit a snag at the end of post-modernism, resulting in the scholarly debate over what comes next. In our globalized society, it has become increasingly difficult to make a distinction between art movements even in terms of location. This has resulted in an essential, yet deceptively complicated question:
Pollution is so harmful to human beings. Polluted water can cause many kinds of diseases, such as diarrhea, enteritis, and so on. And sometimes the diseases even take man’s life. Dirty air or air-borne garbage causes stinging eyes and running nose. Pollutants are destructive. They will cause runs in stockings and crack rubber tires and they always eat away at stone and rust iron. Time and time again, there are serious accidents that polluted the air. For example, At 1986 there was a bad accident at a nuclear power station in Russia. A cloud of radiation crossed the whole Europe. It is said that 125,000 people died in Russia as a result of illnesses caused by that accident. In 1984 there was an accident at a factory in India and a dangerous cloud gas covered the town of Bhopal. Over 2,500 people were killed that night, and hundreds and thousands of people were injured. Many of the injured lost their sight, and it really dangerous, even in our imagination.
