In 1999, Disc Jockey Doug “Greaseman” Tracht made a racist comment on air during his morning radio show. He was suspended indefinitely from WARW radio station. WARW General Manager, Sarah Taylor, released an apology for his comment. Greaseman didn’t release an apology until months later. But while looking through his past and analyzing his one and only apology, it appears it may not have been a sincere apology. It doesn’t seem he is a man who learns from his mistakes but more so a man who is trying to receive forgiveness for his job back. During a morning air of DJ Greasman’s radio show he made a racist comment. Approaching the 1999 Grammys, Greaseman played a snippet of a song by Lauryn Hill, who at the time was nominated for 10 Grammys. He followed with the remark “No wonder people drag them behind trucks”. The remark was made in reference of the brutal torture and murder of a black man by the name of James Byrd Jr in Texas. After his apology, he met a black businessman, Rock Newman. Newman felt Greaseman was sorry. He got him interview after interview to prove to every he was sorry. Black media figures grilled him which is so understandable. Black Entertainment Television (BET) asked its viewers what Greaseman could do to prove he was sorry. Nearly three-quarters of viewers said "nothing." John Thompson, WTEM sports-talk host, suggested he seek counseling. Greaseman wanted to apologize to the congregation at Union Temple, but the Rev Willie Wilson wouldn 't let him. It just proved you can’t say stuff like that and expect to be forgiven. He did go through great length to try to get forgiveness but is it because he genuinely wanted to be forgiven or was it because he really wanted work? And sadly, this man was granted work in 2008.
