Living and growing up in a small town is better than doing so in a big city. Everyone knows your name; there is a sense of community spirit and just going to visit your neighbor can be rewarding. On the flip side, city life breeds a more dangerous lifestyle and leaves no chance for getting to know your fellow townsfolk. Small town life was especially meaningful to me and I remember it fondly. Things were much simpler back then, because we lived in less complicated times. We did not have video games or computers to occupy our time. We had more natural ways to engage ourselves such as going down to the local watering hole to swim or fish. Living in a farming community gave us an abundance of old barns filled with cobwebs to explore. My friends and I would play on endless summer days in the fields and orchards around our homes as well. With less than 5,000 residents living in Smallville, Ohio, it is an ideal small town where everyone knows each other, multiple generations of families live and grow and barely any crimes are committed. The main road leading into Smallville is like a never-ending run of corn fields, silos and dairy farms. It's an old town with old traditions. As brief as my residency was in Smallville, I witnessed the social injustices and educational issues that plague small town living.

Growing up in my neighborhood was not hard or challenging at all, just because I live in an outer city area in NC which is more of a country setting where it was nothing but small businesses and fields. I am thankful to say I was blessed with great parents who raised me up in the church and both has great jobs and would have no problem getting whatever my siblings and I needed or wanted to have. My mom graduated college twice with both degrees from Southeastern Community College she was an LPN until I was around the age of twelve and then she went back for another degree and became an RN to get a better job and she currently is Unit Manager at Poplar Heights Nursing Center. For dad he did not attend college he did truck driving until I was around the age of five and then he owned his own construction job called, “Simple Fix”. He continued doing that for about four years and it was successful until workers started relocated so he stopped that job and now he currently is the supervisor over nuclear construction at Duke Power

I’ve finally made it. When you first land here the immediate difference is all around you whizzing around you creating a sense of life. Before smartphones, what did children do for fun? Kids used to spend their free time playing outdoors with their friends. This is where children learned to interact with others. They made friends, and used their imagination to have fun. Children didn’t require devices to stay entertained, they had to have fun with others.
