In this lifetime there have been two leaders that have affected me greatly. One of these leaders was a level five leader, and the other leader was only a level three leader. The only difference between the level five leader and the level three leader was that the level five leader knew where he was going and found people to take with him. The level three leader knew where he was going he just does not have the need or the know how to take more people with him. The level five leader is my old high school football coach Greg Kendrick while the level three leader is my uncle, Justin Tate. Both of these men have made the largest impact on my life and have both displayed the five levels of leadership without even knowing it. Coach K displayed …show more content…
Although he had the position he never made a big deal about it and he never seemed threatened by the other coaches. He was not the type of guy to yell at you and tell you to do something just because he was the head coach and he said to do it. I think this is where he differs from most other high school football coaches because he does not use his position to threaten you to do something. Coach K was also very involved in all of his players lives which is what makes him a great level two leader as well. It seems like he is always asking players about their personal lives and one can tell that he really tries to get involved in their lives. He is also really good about making all of the players on the team feel welcomed. Most coaches usually only make relationships with the eleven starters on the field while Coach K will make relationships with every single person on the team. For example: I remember last year our third string linebacker quit the team because he did not want to do it anymore. Coach K moved heaven and hell trying to get him back on the team, and in the end he actually did manage to get that kid back on the team. This to me automatically gives him the justification of …show more content…
To other people he may just be a level one leader but in my eyes he is a level five leader without a doubt. He has had the greatest impact in my life and he is a prime example of how to some people a person can be a level one leader but to other people that same person may be a level five leader. Justin is a level one leader to me because under most circumstances he is my boss during the summer so that automatically gives him the level one position, but on the same not he has never used his position over me in any sort of way. At first I followed Justin because I wanted a paycheck during the summer, but over time we developed a very strong bond with each other. At first we would just kind talk to each other back and forth in the truck but after a while the conversations started to have meaning behind them and we developed a very good relationship. If anyone were to look at Justin all they would see is production which is the third level of leadership. This man gets up around noon everyday to go out and work on his odd jobs which he stops doing around 6:30 P.M and then goes straight to his full time job working at Hiland Dairy until five in the morning and goes home to get around five to six hours of sleep only to wake up and repeat this process over again. Justin is the man that taught me the work ethic that I have today and is still teaching me many valuable lessons about how to
He was later appointed head Coach over a winning white coach; he is reluctant to accept the position because a similar situation happened to him when a white Coach had been appointed over him in South Carolina. He finally accepts the head coach position with Support from the black residents who see him as a symbol of pride and admiration that is absent in their community.
There are many names synonymous with college basketball, but none are on the same level as Mike Krzyzewski. LIFE Mike Krzyzewski, born to Polish immigrants William and Emily Krzyzewski on February 13, 1947, was raised on Chicago’s north side. Although both parents have passed away, the example of integrity and ethics has never left him. In fact, his mother's strong faith has kept the ritual of placing her rosary in his shirt pocket before each and every game that he has coached. This positively affected Mike and shaped his future to become one of the greatest coaches in men’s college basketball, and more importantly, an influential leader these young players could look up to even after playing the game.
To be a good leader you need to be brave, experienced, and hardworking. Unlike the football game life isn’t always about the final score. Leaders such as Richthofen, Rickenbacker, and Mitchell put their lives on the line for what they believed
These past two years I’ve seen good and bad leaders and both serve as a good reminder at what to do and what not to do. I’ve been lead by people who don 't really care to be in this program and my skills as a player and a team member did not improve. But i 've also been lead by p...
I would describe Coach K as a great motivator. According to Daft in The Leadership Experience, motivation is defined as the forces either internal or external to a person that arouse enthusiasm and persistence to pursue a certain course of action. One would note Coach K’s ability to lead others to function at a high performance level and accomplish the goal. Moreover, you will find that Coach K’s goal is to meet the needs of his players first by treating them as a family member and encouraging his ...
The 1980?s rolled around and the ?Cameron Crazies? (Duke Basketball fans) felt as if there were no hope for their Blue Devils basketball program, but that?s where they were wrong. Along came what is arguably the greatest coach to step foot on a basketball court, Coach Mike Krzyzewski. Coach K has had unprecedented success at Duke, winning three national championships, and making Duke the powerhouse basketball school that they are today.
... Kilmore coach them, and winning the game without a coach. He was on the inside, he saw the affect that the game was having on his friends and wanted to do something right to fix it. That took a lot of guts for him to do that. Although I think being involved in a sport is a positive thing, but in this situation it was not.
Coach K involves himself more with his players and cares more for the team than constantly winning, therefore; this has led him to all of his wins. Coach Williams is more concerned about winning, which will only allow one to go so far. Additionally, Coach K’s offense and defense are both stable unlike Coach Williams. Finally, Coach K’s statistics and achievements are unbelievable, although; Coach Williams’ statistics are not far behind, but his achievements are. Coach K is seventy years old and his time creating a legacy at Duke, sadly, is slowly coming to an end. Duke will forever be touched by Coach K, but will be different once he has retired/passed on. Personally, I was immensely interested in Coach Mike Krzyzewski at a young age and he has been a strong influence in my life. The lessons he teach not only pertain to basketball, but also to everyday life and they have taught me a tremendous
As I have asserted, coaching is far more than winning or losing. A coach is an essential cog in shaping qualities such as sportsmanship, competitiveness, self discipline, and work ethic. A quality coach can build a player up while a bad coach can tear them down. My goal as a coach was to always leave the player striving to be the best they could be. A good coach
But to see kids succeed is priceless.” In conclusion, a college football coach has a lot on his plate. A college football coach clearly has a lot of responsibilities that he must perform at a high level, or else he may be looking for another job. The job may not be stable at all times, but if you can maintain it and be successful, it may be beneficial in the long run. I believe that the job is worth all of the stress and taking a chance after speaking with Brandon Kreczmer.
“The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will”. Being a football coach requires someone who can be a great communicator. This person needs to understand communication on both sides an individual can not just demand that it's a one way street where you talk and athletes listen. The career of coaching requires history of the game knowledge of the game, extensive education, and positive and negatives aspects of the game.
But he was disappointed by the behaviour and poor attitudes of his players. Then he decided to impose some strict rules on his team members in terms of contract and tell them about his clear expectation from his team like maintain the GPA of (2.3), dress code, attending classes regularly, seat in front bench of the class and respectful behaviour towards your team and Coach because he also call his team members as “Sir”, and he requires them to do the same. Also encourage a team ethic by telling them not to use the “N” word because it’s an insulting word for him. Ken Carter ensures that contract is signed by his t...
He became the first ever basketball coach, he is known as the father of basketball, even though his record as a coach at the University of Kansas was a mediocre fifty five wins and sixty losses. There are many sports to coach, so choosing the right sport to coach is the first test for any coach. Naturally, one would want to coach a sport that you know the most about. For example, if an athlete decided he wanted to get into coaching he would most likely choose to coach the sport he had once played.
Almost everyone has had the misfortune of having a leader that should not be in the position of leading others. Unfortunately, I have been in that position. I have had bad managers and supervisors in not just one job, but in two entirely different jobs. One of the jobs was a nutrition associate in a hospital kitchen. The other job was at the restaurant, Cracker Barrel, as a hostess. I will be pulling my experience from both jobs to explain why these leaders were not fit for the position that they held and what they could have done different to be a more effective leader.
A leader accomplishes this level when they have performed consistently, obtaining desired results, for an extended period. People hold the leader in high regard and defer their ultimate respect for the leader. This level is difficult to accomplish and Maxwell, (2013) reminds us that most leaders rarely accomplish this level. Holst, (1999) describes this stage of leadership, saying this is a leader who has enhanced their spiritual, physical, mental and moral faculties to their highest degree possible resulting in the development of integrity (p.
