Dear Mr. Pettengill
I am Veronica Rendon, parent of Robin Suazo, a student at Murrieta Valley High School. The purpose of this e-mail is to notify you that Robin Suazo has been subject to pervasive teacher-to-student harassment by Ms. Inouye. The harassment began I made her aware of my disagreement and all my previous requests to review my daughter's records were continuously ignored.
Background information
On Tuesday December 5, Ms. Inouye met and disciplined my child for a group project she had assigned to her class on October 17, which had been turned in by a student in my daughter's group the night of November 13, minutes before it was due. During the meeting and before Robin had a chance to speak Ms. Inouye handed her a written warning

Inouye's unprofessional conduct and poor judgement while handling this matter continues to compromise Robin's learning environment. Not only had she disclosed Robin's private information to Mrs. Fields, she continued to aggravate the already hostile environment. On December 6, after her conversation with me on the phone she walked back into her classroom where Mrs. Darstaad had taken over as she had stepped out to call me and where Robin had been sitting working on a test. In a loud sarcastic tone she commented to her student teacher in her own words she was sorry for being late as she "had to deal with the situation." Later that day, she included Julie Thornburg to an email she sent me in which she included Robin's paper that had matched a website paper and had no citation, that included a detailed description of her serious allegations. Her inappropriate conduct not only escalated the harassment and already hostile learning environment, but caused Robin to feel humiliated and no longer wants to attend school. Not content with the damage she already caused and despite her knowledge of the adverse effect this might have on the various college applications Robin has already submitted, she maliciously continues to compromise Robin's moral character and learning environment by her unauthorized sharing of Robin's private information. Needless to say, this has created some serious interpersonal and confidence issues for Robin, who loved going to school but no longer wants to attend school for fears of being ridiculed and who also fears no one will want to work with her. Nevertheless, the effect it has had on her academically has began to show as her grade in Ms. Inouye's class has seriously
At Hazel East High School, the school has a sponsored newspaper called “The Spectrum” that is written and edited by the students. On May of 1983, the high school principal, Robert E. Reynolds, received the edited version of the May 13th edition. Upon inspecting the paper he found two articles that he found “inappropriate.” The two articles contained stories about divorce and teen pregnancy. The article on divorce featured a student who blamed her father’s actions for her parents’ divorce. The following article featured students at Hazelwood East and their experiences as teen parents in high school. Reynolds immediately asked for the two articles to be withheld from that weeks edition. Reynolds had concluded fairness required the father in the divorce article to be informed of the article and given the chance to make any comments. He also stated that changing the names of the girls in the teen pregnancy article may not be sufficient enough to keep them unidentified. Also, the topic is not suitable for younger students. As a result he forbid the two articles from being published. On October 13, 1987 Cathy Kuhlmeier (a student at Hazelwood East High) claimed that Hazelwood East High School was violating her First Amendment rights, and her case was
This case involves a sophomore at a high school named Christine Franklin, who alleged that she was sexually harassed and abused by a teacher and sports coach by the name of Andrew Hill. These allegations were occurring from 1986-1988, a total of two years. These allegations included Hill having explicit conversations with Franklin, forcing her to kiss him, and forceful intercourse on school grounds. Franklin claimed that she let teachers and administrators know about the harassment and that other students were going through the same harassment. The result of telling the teachers and administrators was that nothing was done about the situation and even encouraged Franklin not
I don’t think people realize how much their words and actions can hurt others, and this is shown throughout the entire novel. The first page of the book starts off with a post from a website called gRaCeFULLY. This website is completely dedicating to gossiping about all the drama that is going on in the school. The things posted are directed at specific individuals and are very hurtful: “Word is that [she] is ready and willing. Oh wait, sorry, that’s OLD news. She’s already screwed half the varsity lettermen” (McCreight 84). Although not every school has a website like this, it shows that every school is affected by some form of bullying. Also, Amelia’s best friend, Sylvia, is rude and says hurtful things to Amelia all the time. Amelia isn’t too bothered by these comments, and defends her actions by saying, “She did it when she felt like you’d hurt her feelings first…I tried to overlook the stuff she said…because I actually think she was jealous” (McCreight 29). Throughout the entire novel bullying is shown and I think Kimberly McCreight did that on purpose to show how much of a problem this is today in society. She also shows the lesson to always tell the truth, because lying isn’t worth
High school student “John Doe” responded to peer teasing by choking the student and then kicking out a school window. Middle school student “Jack Smith” made sexual lewd comments to female classmates. Both had a history of hostile and aggressive behaviors that are manifestations of their disabilities. On the fifth day of the school suspension, the district notified both boys’ parents that they were proposing expulsion and they extended suspension until the expulsion proceedings were finished. Doe filed suit against the school district and the superintendent on grounds that the disciplinary actions violated the “stay-put” provision of the then Education of the Handicapped Act (EHA) (later IDEA). Having learned of Doe’s case, Smith also protested the school’s actions and intervened in Doe’s
Alex Billings is a nice, kind-hearted, young lady. Just like every person starting at High school whether it is Junior or Freshman year, Alex wanted to make new friends just like Ms. Pearson. Alex barely knew Ms. Pearson. So why would she falsely accuse someone she barely knew of bullying her? She wouldn’t! Ms. Pearson is known for causing trouble the year before in junior high as said by Principal Li after responding to an email a week later that was sent by Ms. Francis. Also she changed a student 's background on the computer to an inappropriate picture and when a teacher came by and saw the picture, Ms. Pearson didn’t get in trouble for doing it, the student did and the student wasn’t even in the room when Ms. Pearson did it. Ms. Pearson like to pull pranks and jokes on folks just for the fun of it but never even think about the results of what or how it might affect that individual. Even when she was taunting Alex with those harsh text messages and MyFace postes she probably never even stop to think about how Alex would felt when seeing and reading what Ms.Pearson and fellow classmates were saying. Alex tried to ignore the situation but she couldn’t because it was getting out of hand. Ms. Pearson was mad because Alex told the counselor about the messages and the posts and knew that if she wasn’t going to get in trouble with the school, she was going to get in trouble some other

Jamie Nabozny is gay. Today the fact causes him few, if any, difficulties in life, however, throughout middle and high school Nabozny was both physically and verbally harassed; he was beaten, kicked, urinated on, called hurtful terms and abused to the point of hospitalization. However, the worst part of this innocent victim’s abuse was the role that his administration played, or rather refused to play; no action was taken to protect Nabozny despite the fact that school officials knew what was going on and had been repeatedly confronted about his abuse. In time the abuse Nabozny suffered led to doleful moods, severe depression, attempts of suicide, endeavors to run away from home, and other drastic consequences. Eventually, this young vigilante decided to fight back in order to prevent others from experiencing what he had gone through. Nabozny took legal action and, with the help of Lambda Legal Law firm, sued his former school officials for their failure to do their job of keeping him safe in school, eventually winning nearly a million dollars in a monetary settlement. Jamie Nabozny’s case has inspired the response of countless others and forced schools to take responsibility for their actions in bullying cases, because of this role model’s singular determination and readiness to stand up for himself, he has affected and inspired millions. Proving, once and for all, that one person can make a difference.
Her statement had spread throughout the school; all her co-workers had adverse reactions thinking that her ability of being a teacher would interfere due to her racial comment. Her principal decided that it would be better to have her dismissed.

a. What circumstances and psychological factors will make it particularly difficult for the principal to discuss Miss Hiller’s problems with her. What situational barriers will need to be overcome before Miss Hiller can feel more accepted in the school.
Document C, states that K.K., a 12th grade student from Musselman High School made a discussion group on Myspace that accused a peer, S.N., of being sexually promiscuous and that she invited 100 people from her school to join and 24 actually accepted. This is an example of how cyberbullying disrupts learning, the 12th grader not only harassed her peer, but she also invited various students from school to join her and many did. K.K. disrupted the school by inviting others to join her in humiliating S.N., this not only has an effect on the victim, but it also has an effect on how the victim actually feels at school. After being cyberbullied by a classmate school can become an environment of fear and disrespect, preventing the victims from learning. Students also feel insecure, embarrassed, and unsafe. Students’ shouldn’t have to deal with extra stress at school because school is already stressful as it
The critical incident that I will be explaining about is regarding an eight-year-old girl currently a student at Victory Independent School District (VISD). This student wrote on her class journal that her uncle was touching her in her private parts when no one was watching. The teacher was so confused to what to do when he read Bianca’s journal, especially because he was wondering if it was appropriate for him to ask her questions about it. The teacher was concern that due to being a male that the student was going to feel uncomfortable if he were to ask her about what she had wrote in her journal. The teacher did know what to do and he was so confused because he was reading and grading the journals at home during the weekend. He continued reading Bianca’s journal and feeling more worried about his student's well being at home.
In document C, the school suspended the student, but that was because the student caused a threat against the targeted student, S.N. If the student did not target S.N. and say the students name and harm her directly then there would probably be no suspension. J.S created a MySpace profile (“the profile”) making fun of her middle school principal, James McGonigle. The profile did not name the principal or his school, but did include a photo of him and contained some vulgar and offensive language. J.S. did not name the principal or the school, she did not directly target the principal even though a photo of the principal was on the page.
Many students justify their behavior, because of the many examples of unethical behavior in society. For example, in May of 2003, readers of the New York Times were shocked to discover that a reporter, Jayson Blair, was fabricating details and plagiarizing in his articles. The media attention attributed to the Blair affair included a front-page article in the New York Times on Mother’s Day, May 11, 2003 (Barry, 2003).
Online education in the twenty-first century is very prevalent. Not only can you receive a college degree online, but now there is the opportunity for children kindergarten through twelfth grade, to stay at home and complete courses online. One parent thought this would be the best decision for her daughter, Kelsey Hooten, who was being bullied everyday in school by her classmates. Kelsey is now enrolled in “a charter school affiliated with the national education company K12” (Pant 8). Because of the technological advancements made with video chats, computers and education students everywhere are able to be continue schooling with online teachers. Kelsey was able to escape the public school at which she was being bullied and her mother said that “the change in her personality was almost immediate” (Pant 64). By giving kids the ability to escape from the torments of bullying, the victims’ world changes. The effects of bullying can sometimes be physical, but they are also psychological. Studies have shown that victims of bullying are more likely to become violent, depressed or have anxiety issues. In addition, there is the possibility of neurological scarring. This would result from the traumatic experiences of bullying, such as harassment, ostracization, or physical abuse. The scarred tissue wou...
