Leisure time is a time where people are free from work and are they can do any activities that they want during that specific time. This period of time can be spent by staying indoors or engaging themselves with outdoor activities. However, today’s generation of young adults prefer staying indoors than outdoor during their free time. According to a new nationwide poll from The Nature Conservancy, only 10 percent of young adults say they are spending time outdoor every day and they only spend time outdoor to play less than 30 minutes in a week (The Nature Conservacy, n.d.). Bernama (2015) stated that as the outside world has become more dangerous and with the increasing number of crime rates, parents are reluctant to let their children to play outside. They certainly do not want to risk their children’s safety. This has caused their children to spend more time inside and even the percentage of common activity for young adults like riding bicycle and walking to places are decreasing. They should at least get to ride bicycle to places as their daily routine and get to exercise through it but when their safety issue cannot be assured, it is hard for them to make it as a routine. Besides, there is no one to look after them when they are outside as most parents are full time worker. Harris (2013) stated that parents from previous generation also full time worker but, their neighbours will help them by keeping tabs of all children who play in the neighbourhood. However, everyone is so busy nowadays and don’t have the time to keep an eye on the children during the day. Besides, the young adults themselves have a fear in strangers that causes them to have less interest in doing outdoor activity such as riding bicycle and even to play outside (Sobel, 2012). This is because most of the spaces are used to build houses and buildings. Despite the fact that there are specific areas that have been provided for outdoor activities, such as playgrounds and recreation parks, it is still not the same as before because the limited number of areas where young adults can spend their leisure time. There are also too many rules to be followed. However, since they only have fewer place to go and spend their time with family members, those places have become the preferred place for them and the family. For example, New York City’s Central Park because it is the only main recreational park that was build in the middle of the big city and the citizen are focused in that park whenever they wanted to go outside. As people focusing to spend their leisure time at the same place, the place will become too crowded with people. This has made the young adults to have less interest in playing at those places during their leisure time and they rather stayed at home watching television and movies. Young adults are not comfortable to be in a place with lots of people because they rarely went out and they are more comfortable playing with their gadgets.
