Learning Mentor Reflection

This week as we move forward in our program, we begin to reach into learning who we are as students and as learners. Each student was asked to assess themselves to discover both our strengths and weaknesses. We were given the assessment through our reading assignment and it was a short survey to rate ourselves on how well we thought we performed in certain areas. I found it to be interesting, but also an affirmation of things I knew about myself. My weaknesses came as no surprise as they are things that I have dealt with in the past. I am headstrong and often like to do things my own way. This is why I learned that seeking support from others, listening, and knowing how I learn were all things that I could have scored better on. This will be done through practice and repetition. I plan to take the advice of my instructors as well as my peers and build my skill with their constructive criticism. Through reading assignments, I have already picked up great tips such as paying attention to grammar, reading my work aloud, and allowing myself time to think on my writing before submitting it. (Bethel University, 2014) This tips alone have already given me areas to focus and grow. Becoming a better writer will only help me in the future. It will help me to build credibility among my coworkers and those in higher positions. I plan to utilize this skill to grow higher as I present assignments that are better written and better planned. I hope that one day I can put these new found skills into practice when I am writing a resume or cover letter. Improved writing skills will only improve my ability to grow in my current position as well as opening doors to future positions.
