The acquired system can easily be used effectively by teachers in the classroom through meaningful interaction in the target language. This is a form of natural communication where those involved are not concentrated on the form of what is being spoken, but in the actual communication that is taking place. When this method is used, the teacher is able to gradually pass more independence on to the student, resulting in growth in language acquisition. This is done by the teacher modeling and describing what is being said which guides the student. Through the built-in routines of response and feedback, with corresponding revision and editing, students are scaffolded ...

Rubin (1975) was the first person who identified strategies used by successful language learners and the main purpose behind her initiative in identifying the characteristics of successful language learners according to her was to improve the quality of teaching language learning strategies, and to enhance the strategies of less successful language learners and help them succeed in learning a language. The findings of her study, which was based on observation and interview follow ups, have identified seven strategies of successful language learners:
Primary schools that introduce language learning at an earlier phase may do so for a number of purposes, but it is because of the benefits of learning a language at a younger age that this paper has chosen Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) as its target scheme of work. For the purpose of this assignment the focus language will be French (but the strategies to be discussed will apply to any MFL). The ideas within the scheme of work will be critically discussed as part of university experience, school practice and relevant research.
Teaching students a language that is foreign can really be challenging for students as well as for the teachers. The dynamic rule for implementing instructing in a diverse class to English-learners is to use resourceful life skills such as diligence, hard work and patience. There are also methods that are involved in teaching English as a second language that can be creative for the teacher, yet beneficial to the student. First building a strong foundation that is essential to English learners will promote the language acquisition process. To do this teacher’s should always start with preparation. Advance preparation is essential in order to provide necessary adaptations in content area instruction and to make content information accessible for second language lear...
In English language teaching teachers should make students interest to learn what the teachers teach, one of the solutions that teachers should have are method, strategy, and approach to teach them, in order to make students did not feel boring in learning process. Thus, used the method, strategy, and approach in teaching it is important. One of the best methods is Total Physical Response (TPR) this method developed by Dr. James J Asher. This method aims to encouraging learners to listen and give responds to the spoken of target language instructions by their teachers. TPR is a language teaching method built around the coordination of speech and action, also give many learning models and try to practice more. In addition, many English teachers usually use traditional methods to teach vocabulary, such as translating, repeating the new words and reciting the new words. These methods of learning and teaching English vocabulary are intentional learning, in other words, explicit learning. Furthermore, Viet Nam is not an English-speaking country and its cultural background, and educational philosophy is totally different from the English speaking countries. Students in Vietnam only study and use English in the classroom environment and they have to learn the vocabulary mechanically.
A fundamental aspect of language acquisition is acquiring sufficient vocabulary to understand and convey meaning. As the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach is today´s contemporary method of teaching languages, the Grammar Translation Approach´s Focus on Forms (FonFs) became obsolete. Instead of the intentional teaching of language items, the CLT classroom focuses on incidental learning. Incidental learning is key principle of Focus on Form (FonF) and applied in the SLA classroom to give it a more naturalistic atmosphere.
“Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things, but learning another way to think about things.” (Flora Lewis, 2000) For as long as there are languages and for as there are languages, there are people studying and teaching it, but is there one way of teaching a language that is the right way? There are many aspects to learn a language, for the sake of the assignment I have been appointed only one aspect namely: Learning and teaching vocabulary.
Laberge (2003) says that teaching is the process of imparting skills, knowledge, attitudes and values. It can also be considered as a cyclical process of instilling, transmitting or constructing knowledge. It basically involves several kinds of skills, classroom management, selecting and adapting suitable materials, evaluating and assessing students. It is somehow interrelated with developing good learning process. Encarta (2009) defines learning as the acquisition of knowledge or skills. It is involves in acquiring new competences. In order to achieve good teaching and learning developmental process, both teachers and students play vital role throughout the lesson. One of the major concerns in ensuring successful classroom is the suitable approach or appropriate methodologies used in class by teachers. As we all know, learners have their own learning style. In order to assess learners well, a good and suitable teaching approach is important so that the learning objectives are achievable.
The procedure of teaching English is a combination of activities of teaching grammar and translation. The teaching begins with english rules, vocabulary items, translation. The teacher explains the rules and then students put simple words into slots of grammatical rules. The grammar rules are memorized as units. I have had experience with learning two languages, Spanish and Arabic. The first time I was exposed to Spanish was when I was in kindergarten and I did not study it again until high school. I did not begin learning Arabic until my last year of high school and decided to major in Arabic once I got to college. The experiences I had learning these languages were completely different.
The method that I chose to analyze is The Direct Method. The Direct Method is an older method that has been used for some time. According to Wikipedia, It was established in Germany and France around 1900. It was produced in response to the Grammar Translation Method. Teachers felt that the Grammar Translation method was ineffective in developing communicative ability. It is called the Direct Method because it is directly related to the language being learned without using the target language. The method is mainly used for teaching foreign languages. The idea is to teach the target language the same way the native language was learned. There is an emphasis on correct pronunciation
In most institutions of learning today, the classes are made up of students from different ethnic backgrounds. These have different traditions and also speak different languages. In a typical classroom, the majority of the students will speak the same language. The teacher must then employ strategies which will accommodate all the students in the class. This will ensure that every learner gets the best quality of education. This will enable them to be better prepared for career and expressing themselves. In this paper, strategies to assist learners of the English language in their literal development for third grade learners. In the paper, three strategies that can be used by the teacher will be discussed. New strategies and research that will help the English language learners to gain in depth mastery of the language will also be discussed. Due to the widespread learning of the English language in most schools, addressing issues of the language learners is of vital importance. Teachers should have the understanding that cultures are what give someone identity and therefore no student should leave their culture for another. Instead, there should be the blending of different cultures so that students can appreciate and learn from each other.
In this setting the teacher becomes an insightful guide, leading the language learner all the while teaching the student how to learn. For in time, good language teachers will carefully decrease the student’s dependency on themselves, in exchange for a self-sufficient, motivated language learner who can learn the language in the real world with only minimal guidance and support from the language
