Athletics in American schools have always been controversial for many reasons. Some of these reasons include health concerns, safety precautions, and academic significance. Daniel H. Bowen and Colin Hitt wrote an article titled, “High-School Sports Aren’t Killing Academics” to present the factors of positive correlation between success in athletics and academics. I believe that athletics in high schools not only benefit students socially, but also academically.

I love the sport of football.

One usually tends to bend the rules a little, therefore they have the ability to play for their college even though the school’s regular academic requirements might not be met. Although very few schoo...

Success isn’t given, it’s earned on the track, on the field, and in the gym with blood, sweat, and the occasional fear” -Unknown. This is relevant because it is hard for students to want to play sports but also to do well in school. If high school students can’t find the time to keep their grades up or to keep a certain GPA, they should not be allowed to play sports. Students need to prove themselves to be able to play any sport and still be able to do well in school. Also, having good grades shows the coach maturity and may earn them more playing time if they are working hard in school and in practice.

For years, young students have been part of a school system that has judged students’ learning progress by grades and tests, but is there a more productive solution to teaching and evaluating students? Colleges and high schools are evaluating students based on grades, but removing grades would revolutionize the way people move up in society and what school or opportunities they encounter. Without grades or tests, everybody is seen as intelligent as each other, when in reality there are students who are exceeding, and some who are barely keeping their head above water but without grades teachers wouldn’t know which students to help. Student participation in school sports is a privilege that must be earned. Most school athletic programs require student-athletes to perform well academically in order to participate in school sports. If students want to participate in school sports, they have to earn that privilege by performing well in the classroom. Many people across the globe have come across teachers that are mean, rude, and aren’t teaching their students the way most children would allow. A fraction in our community believe that children should be teached the way teachers want to teach them and that a childs opinion would not matter in a classroom. If a student doesn’t inform a teacher that they are doing something wrong when they are the child could be confused and not know what is going on- in other words the child could fail, when a teacher per sae would give out reports or grades to their students the child would be anxious to know if they are doing something right in the class or if they are failing, and a teacher would never know if they are doing something wrong unless a child tells them so. Students should be able to grade their teachers and tell them what they are doing wrong or right.
