Longer Passing Periods
Have you ever been late to class, even when you are sprinting through the hallways? That is the effect of passing periods. Students are often late to class, which leads to ISS. They also get in trouble a lot more for running in the hallways, even though the students are running so they won’t be late to class. A student should never get in trouble for trying to get to class. Passing periods should be changed at Kearney Junior High because students are often late to class. First of all, students are often late to class because they run in the hallways. According to emspassingperiods, ¨Classmates bump into each other a lot in the hallway because they are running to get to class. Therefore, longer passing periods will reduce the stress of getting to class on time.¨ Throughout the school day, I personally witness many students running or sprinting through the hallways. Every now and then, I find myself going a lot faster in the hallways to get to my class. Unfortunately, some students get in trouble for running through the hallways even though they are trying to get to class on time. Teachers should not be getting students in trouble

Most of the time, students don’t have enough time to go back to their lockers or they are in such a rush, that they tend to forget things. A solution to this problem would be longer passing periods. According to emspassingperiods, “Lots of students forget their textbooks or beg to go to the restroom during class which wastes time for learning. During short passing periods, students usually don’t have enough time to grab their textbooks from their lockers or go to the restroom if they need to.” Longer passing periods would be better than short ones because you will have plenty of time to grab things from your locker, use the restroom, and you won’t have a very good reason to run in the
Extended class periods and block scheduling will improve student’s grades and can diminish their stress level significantly. A normal day in block scheduling consists of only four classes a day, alternating each day. These classes would last 120 minutes each, with the same 5 minute passing periods in between classes. This scheduling gives teachers more time to explain their lesson. It also gives students time to recover from the late nights due to sports and other activities because they only have four classes a day. Their homework for these classes isn’t due for another day, so they don’t have to stress over getting it done. 120 minute classes combined with blocked scheduling increases the amount of time teachers have for instruction and will overall increase the student’s knowledge, in turn, raising their grades.
Sometimes we forget something in our locker and we have to go back to our locker so we would end up being late. We also like to study for a test or quiz during passing period so, a few extra minutes would help a lot. I like to talk to my friends, that I don’t have classes with, during passing period and I never have time. I also never have enough time to go to the bathroom. Like teachers, students get stressed as well. These are a few reasons longer passing periods would benefit us students.
In a homework assignment i did for intro to law i had to ask a student what rule they wanted to change and a lot of students overheard about 15 and said the tardy policy because it takes away from are learning. This tardy Policy affects everyone. Some students that know that they will be late rather not show up because they rather not get the 30 min detention. As a student many classmates have done this , they like school but they don't want to serve a detention during or after school. Teachers are instructed to close the doors as soon as the bells ring and if you don't make it on time that's your “fault” , then what happens is you'll just stay outside of class waiting till the staff pass by to sweep you up and take you to your
By implementing this new system, consisting of a series of shocks and tickets, we will build a strong, able-bodied community of students with drive and determination to be on time to class and ready to learn. This will not only be reflected in increased walking speeds and therefore fewer instances of tardiness, but a stronger academic focus and increased grades throughout the school, as students will now be more focused on arriving to class promptly, on time and ready to learn, than avoiding the plague of slow walkers that fill the hallways. Thus, we conclude our proposal by humbly requesting that all who share a hatred for those that walk at a turtle’s pace advocate for the implementation of our planned system, as we see it as the only fit, feasible solution to this pressing issue. May every school administrator who reads this sympathize with our struggles and work diligently to implement this new, proposed system into our school, as we cannot stand to see this problem and the horrors it
Freshman fifteen is the NEW EPIDEMIC!!.. or not? In the eyes of freshman, college can be seen as entering the lion’s den when transitioning from high school. Students routines, diets, and moods drastically change resulting in an imbalance of one’s well being. As a way to cope college freshman typically look towards food for a release. Therefore, this is where the term freshman fifteen was born. Freshman fifteen is the idea that in one’s first year of attending college, the student will gain fifteen pounds. On average students are gaining weight at an abnormal pace however, it is not exactly the amount that the media has portrayed.
Even though these problems exist, recess still has its positive aspects. "A daily break of 15 minutes or more in the school...
During the school day students are faced with many distractions that may keep them from doing their best. Since all of the school shootings in recent years schools have beefed up security across the country. Students are faced with metal detectors as they walk in the school doors. Dogs are used in the schools to conduct random searches and some students find this very controversial. Students are violent and are bringing weapons to school and making bomb threats. These can cause lockdowns that can take hours to search the whole school. This is all valuable time taken from the school day. Police officers are also a new presence in the school system that intimidates students. School is supposed to be a place of learning but now students have to worry if they are safe when they go to school. All these distractions have some students scared to go to school. Every one of these distractions creates an environment that is not conducive to learning.
It is important for all students to be able to learn in a safe and productive classroom but student misbehavior can be disruptive to that environment. Disruptive misbehavior can be mild and not impact student achievement or it can be serious and affect the entire classroom. Johnny is a fifth grade student who constantly interrupts the class by making faces. A classroom management plan will address Johnny’s individual needs and those of the class.
...ing periods for each lesson within a unit will consume too much time. The time factor needs to be analyzed further.
...aster. Alternative ideas include having a 5 minute work-out time for jumping jacks or stretched between classes to avoid having students sit all day long behind a desk.
Today we are addressing Jammie’s inappropriate behavior in class. Jammie has outburst in class which disrupts the class. Jammie will fall to the floor and scream just to avoid answering questions in class. Jammie will do this during quiet time as well when the students are trying to study for the quiz. The other children are trying to learn but with the distraction of Jammie it is hard to pay attention. My theory is that Jammie does not like to be in class after she has lunch, I feel that she is getting exhausted of class and realizes that school is almost out. I feel that Jammie thinks she will not have to participate in class if she sits out in the hallway.
In middle school I have participated in as many school activities as I possibly could. First of all, in 6th and 7th grade I was part of Student Council. In Student Council we worked on projects to improve the school, participated in community service, and fundraised to help others. One project I took a big role in was the Olympia recycles project. Secondly, I have been part of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) for 2 years now. Members of the National Junior Honor Society were chosen based on their outstanding performance in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. In NJHS we organize a lot of fun events that will interest others and we do
They do not realize that it is a hassle for not only students but teachers and staff as well and there are many solutions to help make the transitions from classroom to front office more smooth and simple. For starters, they should only require green slips for violation of student handbook or if the student needs to speak with Mr. Capp or Mr. Stearns. If the student is being sent up for any reason other than a violation the class should have a specific hall pass designated for trips to the office instead of being required to write one out for the student. This would avoid the hassle of interrupting a lesson plan during class and make getting into the office for reasons regarding personal issues easy for everyone. Other ways would be to just let the student in the office without a slip if the situation is deemed serious enough or if they need to pick up something from the front desk. If the administration becomes curious they can ask the student questions regarding their whereabouts and where they are
At first, I thought switching class wouldn't be that hard but I soon figured out it is actually very difficult. One way it is difficult is you only have 5 minutes to switch between classes and only 3 minutes to switch from one class to fast focus. Also there are usually clots or packs of students in the hallways that you have to push through and you get pushed and sometimes there
Every teacher must have a set of classroom routines and procedures to maintain order in the classroom. When entering the classroom, students will enter in a quiet manner. They will sit at their assigned desk and have all material ready to begin on required work. Once the bell rings and the door is closed, students will be seated and working. Tardiness is unacceptable and if the student receives more than three unexcused tardies per nine weeks, a referral will be given to the office and a phone call will be made the parent or guardian. Also, students should not be more than three minutes late to class. This will result in an automatic referral to the office.
