Introduction Susan Powell lived in West Valley City, Utah with her husband Josh Powell and two young sons Charles Joshua Powell and Braden Timothy Powell. According to a detailed timeline provided by the Deseret News, a local newspaper, it was discovered by relatives that the entire family had gone missing on Monday December 7, 2009. Josh and his boys came back later that day supposedly from a camping trip in Simpson Springs, Utah. The shortest route from West Valley to the campground is 93 miles. Note that this camping trip took place in the cold winter desert of western Utah. The Old Farmer’s Almanac states that the high for that day was 24°F and the low was 10°F in the Tooele area (The Old Farmer's Almanac, n.d.). Tooele is the county seat where Simpsons Springs is located. After being taken into West Valley City Police custody for questioning, Josh claimed that he had left his wife home over the night (Deseret News, 2012). Police determined the disappearance of Susan to be suspicious. She had vanished without notifying co-workers and family, taking no personal …show more content…
When bringing the children to Josh’s home in Graham, Washington Josh grabbed the children and shut the door on her. She immediately called 911 after not being left in. Shortly after the home exploded killing Josh and the two children. Local authorities treated the act as a double-murder suicide and concluded that it appeared to be deliberate (Merryman, 2012). The official cause of death for Josh and the boys was determined to be carbon monoxide poisoning. The coroner also noted the boys had significant chopping injuries on the head and neck. A hatchet was recovered near Josh’s body suggesting he had attacked the boys before being overwhelmed by smoke and flames (KOMO Staff & news services, 2012). The fire was fueled by two five-gallon cans of gasoline as well as gasoline spread throughout the
March 30, 1981 was a peaceful day. President Ronald Reagan was walking outside enjoying the fresh air when suddenly shots were fired. Six shots were fired in total, but only one shot hit Reagan due to a bullet that ricocheted. Luckily, Reagan was hit in the abdomen; therefore, he survived. The “mastermind” behind the attempted assassination was a man named John Hinckley. Hinckley believed by going through with this assassination it would be a romantic scenario for himself to confess his undying love for the actress Jodie Foster. Before long it was time for the Hinckley trial and after hearing his side of the story, the jury came to the conclusion that he was crazy. Hinckley was later found not guilty by reason of insanity and admitted to
The knife that served as the murder weapon was sourced from the kitchen. Their bodies, which were burnt quite badly, were found in their bedroom, which was upstairs. This crime scene was uncovered by fire officers who responded to a 000 call by a neighbor at approximately 3:34am, after Jeffrey had told him his parents and his brother were dead. At this point, Jeffrey creates his alibi that his brother Christopher is responsible for the murder of their parents and setting the bodies on fire, but it was he who murdered
Caren Campano was a 42 year old woman working a decent job, and married to a man 15 years younger than her. Chris, her husband, was a drug addict that did not have steady income. The night she disappeared they had a large argument, and according to Chris, they both left the house in separate directions to cool off. She left on foot, and he left in the truck to a bar. The next morning he called her job asking if she was at work and they said she never showed up. He called and made a missing person’s report. The investigators went to their house and stated the house was in good condition, and did not look like she left. There was no signs of a fight. However, they found a large brown stain that was still wet next to the bed. When they tested it, it was positive for blood, and when they pulled the carpet back, there was an even larger blood stain on the cushioning under the
In November 2004, Scott Peterson was found guilty and charged with two counts of murder for the death of his 8-month pregnant wife Laci Peterson, and prenatal son Conner Peterson. It was not until one month later, the jury had recommended Scott Peterson to be sentenced to death by lethal injection. Before his conviction, there was no substantial evidence submitted during the trial that linked Peterson directly to the death of his wife and their unborn child. In fact, the only physical evidence presented to the court was a single strand of Laci Peterson’s hair attached to a pair of Scott’s pliers. The evidence was deemed circumstantial on the basis that it did not deliberately constitute as the murder weapon. The pliers were not found alongside
On a normal work night at Pete’s Pizza, two co-workers decided to switch shifts. Kayla Cutler asked Gabie Klug to work a Wednesday evening, so she could have Friday evening off. That night Kayla and Drew are working, a man named “John Robertson” called in to order three large meat monster pizzas to be delivered to 1091 River Road which is a fake address. He asked if the girl in the mini cooper was making deliveries, the one driving the mini cooper is Gabie, but since Gabie isn’t there, Kayla had to go make the delivery. Kayla takes the order and never comes back, so Drew got worried and decided to call the police and file a report, for a missing person. As time passes, Drew told Gabie that the guy who ordered had asked for the girl driving
After a basketball game, four kids, Andrew Jackson, Tyrone Mills, Robert Washington and B.J. Carson, celebrate a win by going out drinking and driving. Andrew lost control of his car and crashed into a retaining wall on I-75. Andy, Tyrone, and B.J. escaped from the four-door Chevy right after the accident. Teen basketball star and Hazelwood high team captain was sitting in the passenger's side with his feet on the dashboard. When the crash happened, his feet went through the windshield and he was unable to escape. The gas tank then exploded and burned Robbie to death while the three unharmed kids tried to save him.

While many believe Clemson's Deshaun Watson is the answer, drafting the QB could actually destroy the New York Jets.
On December 24, 2002, Laci Peterson was reported missing from her home. Her husband, Scott Peterson, was the first to be suspected for the murders of Laci and her unborn son, Connor. Scott planned the murders by making sure he was at a certain place at a certain time to prove that he didn’t do it. The night Scott came home from fishing, he reported Laci was not at home.
During late October in 1967 a man named James Richardson was charged for the murder of his seven children. The children were poisoned and it is believed that he was the one who poisoned them. There is no solid, or reasonable evidence that it was him. Anything that even remotely points to him is all people’s speculative opinions. Everything seemed to be stacked against him. James Richardson was wrongfully convicted for the murder of his seven children, and there is some evidence that points towards who most likely did it.
After the fire, the family started to recognize a large collection of odd moments leading up to and following that fearful night. “A woman claimed to have seen the missing children peering from a passing car while the fire was in progress” (Abbott). Another woman who owned a tourist shop 50 miles away from Fayetteville said she fed the children breakfast the day after the fire. A different lady at a Charleston hotel saw the children’s photo in the paper and claimed to have seen four out of the five of them a week after the fire. They were accompanied by two Italian men and two Italian women. Registering about midnight, she tried to talk to the children in a friendly manner but the men became hostile and refused communication. Sources say that they left early the next morning. If the children were supposedly spotted three times, could they have still been

Cops tend to identify and speak to family members about the missing person in order to get as much important information as possible in hopes to find clues as to their where abouts. According to the Toronto Police Service, “the search for missing persons is divided into 3 levels of operation depending on the circumstances. Level 1, when a person is reported missing but there are no extenuating circumstances, level 2, implemented when the missing person is under 16 or over 70 and there is evidence of foul play, level 3, if there are extenuating circumstances or level 1 and 2 are ineffective” (http://www.torontopolice.on.ca/procedures/get.php?missing_persons.pdf) In the story, the cops have been searching for Niks friend, Corinne, for 4 years now and has now been declared as unknowingly missing. The community also had put posters up for both missing girls, “Not another missing poster stapled to the trees, hung in the storefront windows- another innocent face, asking to be found.” (MIranda, 39) While posters were being put up, they went to talk to her family, only to discover she hasn't spoken to her family in years, then searched her house head to toe, only
