Dementia Monologue

On 7/16/16 at approximately 1909 hours, my partner, Officer Acosta #0044, and I, Officer Harrell #3441 were working normal patrol assigned to unit 2A26. We were in full police uniform and operating a marked black and white police vehicle. We were dispatched to a radio call of a critical missing from 1605 Glen Ave.
Upon our arrival we were met by the reporting person, Theresa Webb. Webb stated she is Vaughns Niece. She said that she is his caregiver and she lives with him at 1605 Glen Ave. Webb said that on today’s date, at approximately 1700 hours, she observed Vaughns standing on the sidewalk in front of their house, smoking a cigarette. She said the sidewalk is where he always smokes. Webb said she looked away for approximately five minutes and when she looked outside again, Vaughns was gone.
Webb stated that Vaughns suffers from dementia and takes medication for the dementia. Vaughns has been instructed by Webb, in the past, that he is not supposed to walk further then Howard St to the south, or Stanton St to the north. Webb said she looked all around the neighborhood but could not find where he had walked to. She said that Vaughns has walked away before, but has always come home in a reasonable amount of time. Officer’s Marin, #5450, and Woolford #9226 responded to the area and conducted a grid search between Woodbury Rd and Washington Bl, and Fair Oaks Ave and Lincoln Ave. They had negative search results. CSO Morris #5850 responded to the area and had negative search results. The Pasadena Police helicopter searched the area and had negative results. I contacted Pasadena Police Records section and they updated NCIC. I gave a missing broadcast and updated the bulletin. BL#16001157. Sgt Padilla #6871 responded to the location as incident
