A summary of the case details (provide the circumstances surrounding the case, who, what, when, how) On the 28th August 1993, Stephen and Helen Gilham became the victims of murder in their own home, located in Woronora, which they shared with their two sons, Christopher (25) and Jeffrey (23). At the hands of Jeffrey Gilham, Stephen, Helen and Christopher Gilham were murdered brutally by means of stabbing, although Jeffrey only admitted to the murder of his brother Christopher. Jeffrey maintained the series of events that it was in fact Christopher that murdered Stephen and Helen, and that he had discovered Christopher holding the murder weapon, a knife, and in a blind fit of rage stabbed Christopher a total of 17 times. Gilham’s uncle believed otherwise, stating that it was Jeffrey who committed the initial murder and not Christopher. However, his uncle had been unhappy with this scenario and believed that it was Jeffrey, not Christopher who had stabbed his parents. The family home located in Woronora was a split-level dwelling which had access internally and externally to the garage and boatshed, which gave intercom access to the house. Stephen and Helen’s bedroom was located upstairs. …show more content…
Stephen and Helen died from numerous stab wounds to the chest and back and in a strange timeline of events; a fire was lit either on or near their bodies.
The knife that served as the murder weapon was sourced from the kitchen. Their bodies, which were burnt quite badly, were found in their bedroom, which was upstairs. This crime scene was uncovered by fire officers who responded to a 000 call by a neighbor at approximately 3:34am, after Jeffrey had told him his parents and his brother were dead. At this point, Jeffrey creates his alibi that his brother Christopher is responsible for the murder of their parents and setting the bodies on fire, but it was he who murdered
Christopher. The post mortem examination established that the stab wounds were delivered whilst the victims were alive, but the order in which they were delivered could not be resolved and the time of death could not be precisely obtained either, but it was concluded that both would have died within minutes of being attacked due to the severity of their wounds. Helen had 17 knife wounds, 13 of which were to the chest and Stephen had 28 knife wounds, 16 of which were to the chest. Christopher’s body was found on the lower level of the house. He had 17 knife wounds, with 14 of them being to the anterior of his chest. The murder weapon of the knife was found near his body, which was naked with the exception for a towelling shave coat. Due to his body being found in the lower part of the house, it was unaffected by the fire. Jeffrey was charged with the murder of his brother Christopher in August 1993, but it would not be until April 1995 that he pleaded guilty to the charge of manslaughter. This plea was accepted on the basis that it could not disprove that the murder of his brother was due to being provoked by the murder of his parents. This lead to an initial sentence of 3 years, and a good behavior bond of 5 years. In June 1995 it was determined that Christopher did murder both Stephen and Helen, but a second inquest that concluded in April 2000 found that there was sufficient evidence that it was Jeffrey and not Christopher who murdered Stephen and Helen. However, the decision was made not to prosecute Jeffrey, as there was no real prospect of conviction. In May 2001, private prosecution for the murder of Stephen and Helen was set into motion by Jeffrey’s uncle. This initial investigation started by Jeffrey’s uncle left with the conclusion that there was no evidence, and hence he was discharged. October 2004 saw the third police investigation to take place to see if sufficient evidence could be found to charge Jeffrey, but it would not be until February 2006 that he would be charged with the murder of his parents. On the 28th November 2008 a jury found Jeffrey Gilham guilty of murder and he was handed the sentence of life imprisonment for each count of murder.

Ashley Smith was a young girl that was placed in a juvenile detention centre at age 15 for throwing apples at a mail man. Her short sentence quickly extended into a life sentence because of so many infractions within the prison system. Ashley suffered from extreme mental health issues and was place in a psychiatric prison facility, however this facility was shown in the documentary to be corrupt and their actions with Ashley were extremely illegal. Furthermore, Ashley wasn’t given the proper help and treatment that she needed, instead she was physically and verbally abused by guards in the prison, and she ultimately passed away in the prison. On his way inside, he shot and killed Dan and proceeded to steal his wallet and car keys. He then followed Jason under his mother’s bed to shoot and kill him as well. He also shot and killed David on his way to kill Jason. He then found Evelyn in the bathtub and shot her in the head. All of her blood was drained into a bucket and he drank all of it. A girl knocked on the door, supposedly on a play date with Jason, and startled Richard. He fled the scene in Dan’s car and left trails of shoe and hand prints to his home. He even took Dan’s body with him to consume later.

One night, Christmas Eve to be exact, a life changing tragedy took place in Fayetteville, West Virginia. A family of twelve, one being in the army, went to bed only to be awoken by flames later that night. Once the house was in ashes, five out of the nine children were missing and never to be seen again. Although some believe that the Sodder Family house fire resulted in the five children dying, the fact that no bones were found, multiple witnesses have spotted them with two Italian men and women, further communication was kept, and the fact that they received mysterious foreshadowing threats led many to think differently.
The first five murders, later to be called the "Tate" murders, occurred in a house high above the city of Los Angeles. One victim (Steven Parent) was found in his car outside the house and he had been shot four times and stabbed once. Another two victims (Abigail Folger and Voytek Frykowski) were found on the back lawn of the Tate estate. Coroner's reports would later indicate that Abigail had been stabbed twenty-eight times and Voytek was shot twice, struck over the head thirteen times and stabbed

Over the course of the investigation, there were several tips given to the police by a woman named Martha who was a patient in a psychiatric facility. Martha stated that when she was a girl, her mother purchased the child whose name she said was Jonathan. Martha admitted to being sexually abused by her mother and said she wanted to do the same to Jonathan. One day Jonathan had vomited in the bathtub and in response, her mother slammed the boy on the floor so hard that she had killed him. After Jonathan died, Martha said she accompanied her mother when she went to dump the boy's body. According to investigators, Martha's story added up. But even with the lead Martha had given them, the police were unable to verify if the boy was who Martha claimed he
