On a normal work night at Pete’s Pizza, two co-workers decided to switch shifts. Kayla Cutler asked Gabie Klug to work a Wednesday evening, so she could have Friday evening off. That night Kayla and Drew are working, a man named “John Robertson” called in to order three large meat monster pizzas to be delivered to 1091 River Road which is a fake address. He asked if the girl in the mini cooper was making deliveries, the one driving the mini cooper is Gabie, but since Gabie isn’t there, Kayla had to go make the delivery. Kayla takes the order and never comes back, so Drew got worried and decided to call the police and file a report, for a missing person. As time passes, Drew told Gabie that the guy who ordered had asked for the girl driving …show more content…
the mini cooper; she became obsessed with the idea that it was supposed to be her who had to be kidnapped and is determined to help find Kayla. Drew and Gabie were questioned, along with many other people. Evidence was found on clues on what could have happened to Kayla. Later on in the book, police confirmed that Kayla Cutler was murdered, but Gabie knew Kayla wasn’t dead, she felt something telling her that Kayla was still alive and needed her help. April Henry wrote the book to be full of suspension.
The protagonist, which is Gabie Klug the main character throughout the whole book is basically a loser at school. Also, she is a straight-A student, known as a nerd. She drives a black Mini Cooper and her parents are surgeons which are never home. Henry makes Gabie be very stubborn and active. Drew Lyle, another main character from The Night She Disappeared is known as an addicted smoker who is 17 years old. He has long hair and gray eyes, and in school, he has straight C’s. Drew’s mother is known as a drug addict and for stealing. April made Kayla a main character throughout the book even though her point of view is not in the book as much as Gabie’s and Drew’s. Kayla Cutler has blue eyes, pale skin, and black hair. Cutler is known to be very popular and …show more content…
beautiful. Throughout the book, there are not many minor characters except for Sergeant Thayer and Pete the owner of Pete’s Pizza Place. Sergeant Thayer is the detective that takes over Kayla’s case. He can be very rude and pushy towards getting information. Thayer made everyone believe Kayla was murdered, but she was still alive. Pete is a short guy and very kind. He tries to save money by being cheap with his materials and food at work, and he hates wasting money and food. Mr. and Mrs. Klug are known to be marginal characters, along with Kayla’s family members. April Henry gave the book many marginal characters, marginal characters are characters that never really come up, they may have two or three lines, also they can be an audience or groups of students, basically, they are fillers. The workers at Pete’s pizza, Drew’s mother, Students, other policemen and much more are marginal characters. The Night She Disappeared has many good sections and some bad sections.
For example, a part I did not like is when Kayla was talking to herself, “will they find my body, years from now, and wonder who I am? That thought is the worst, that I might become some nameless dead girl, a strangers pile of bones.” (Henry 144), in my opinion, Kayla over exaggerated, but I can see where she is coming from. Also, I did not like some parts considering that they were over exaggerated and some parts did not go along with what was going on. One of the things April Henry did was she changed point of views every chapter which would also confuse me a lot. One of the parts that I liked was when there would be pictures of the documents the policemen filled out, paper clippings, interviews, and evidence pieces along with many other things. Another part that I liked was when Gabie never gave up, she knew Kayla was alive and wasn’t letting anyone tell her different. “Kayla is still alive. I know it.” (Henry
173). I would recommend The Night She Disappeared by April Henry to anyone who is interested or likes reading mysteries. The reason why is because the plot was tricky and the characterization of the characters was very clear. Many people who read these types of stories try to figure out the resolution to the book, but they never can predict correctly, for example in this book I predicted one thing as the resolution and it turned out to be completely different. The Night She Disappeared is full of thriller and it makes you want to keep reading after you stop. The reader will have a difficult time trying to figure out the climax due to many parts having suspension. Another reason why I recommend this book is because each chapter/ point of view has new questions and many are answered in some unexpected ways. Overall, The Night She Disappeared was an interesting book. April Henry made the book be filled with curiosity and full of thrill. She also threw in some love action between the two main characters. The reader will be automatically be absorbed into the story from the start. At the end of the book, everyone gets a happy ending except for John Robertson.
The book had a few characters that I liked, but a lot of characters that I disliked. For example Yasmine was a character that I disliked. I didn’t like her because she brought pain to Paige’s life. Yasmine and Paige were best friends for months in Sixth grade. They were constantly doing fun activities together, like having sleepovers or planning each other’s birthday parties, but all that was ruined by a mistake Yasmine made. Paige and Yasmine were at a school dance, when
The parts that I found boring were when there was a lot of description going on from the author. I do realize that it is necessary to set up the scenes and locations so that us as readers can have a better understanding of what is happening in the book, however I felt like at times he went too far into detail and had me nearly sleeping at times, literally.
The main characters in this story are Jake and Mariana. Jake is a stagnant and flat character. Throughout the story, he shows himself as a somewhat lazy and rather overly conceited kind of guy. When Gilb describes how Jake, "considered driving past the Toyota." and how, "he considered giving a real phone number but went against that idea and made one up," it gives the reader a sense of how sleazy Jake is. In the end, he has not changed but yet seems even worse and more like a con artist. Mariana is more of an enigma then Jake since the author does not go into great detail about her, there is little characterization to go on. Generally, Mariana is a stagnant character because she is a normal girl with the same suspicious tendencies as most other human beings.
The main character is Andy, a fifteen-year old boy. The other main character is Andy's dad, Mr. Zadinski. Hes a professor at Madison College. Paul was Andy's best friend who tried to help him with his problem. Mr. Lucas is also a professor who makes prank calls to Andy about killing someone. Nina Klemmer was a college student who was being stalked.
I liked how at the end of each chapter, there was suspense which made it impossible for me to stop reading.
From the beginning it becomes obvious that many of the characters represent familiar archetypes. Gabbie is a budding young virgin, beautiful, innocent, and vulner...
The first main character is Samantha Keyes, also known as Sammy. Sammy has a great personality. She's very spunky, creative and curious about everything. She will always try to invest into something and learn more about it. She lives with her grandma, because her mom went to hollywood to try to become successful as an actor. She has some really close friends, like Dot and Marissa, but a lot of people at school don’t get her and make fun of her. The next main character is Ritas Keyes or “Grams”, Sammy's grandmother. Sammy
In the first section of the book it starts off with a little girl named Tasha. Tasha is in the Fifth grade, and doesn’t really have many friends. It describes her dilemma with trying to fit in with all the other girls, and being “popular”, and trying to deal with a “Kid Snatcher”. The summer before school started she practiced at all the games the kid’s play, so she could be good, and be able to get them to like her. The girls at school are not very nice to her at all. Her struggle with being popular meets her up with Jashante, a held back Fifth ...
The first character that intrigued me, probably because I could relate to him the most was Andrew, the "jock." A jock is the group of people that are athletically inclined and are usually part of a sports team. When all the students were confessing what they had done he seemed the most regretful of his actions. Andrew being a great wrestler at school saw an unsuspecting teammate that was much smaller than he was and decided to jump on him and start beating up on him. What made his case so extreme was that not only did beat up on his teammate but he taped his butt cheeks together. The perception that I, as well as the members of the breakfast club, had of Andrew was that he couldn't think for himself. He also thought the same thing because he said that he felt pressured by his dad to do something mischievous because he (his dad) used to get into mischievous acts often while he was in high school. So while he was looking at his smaller teammate he said that all he could here was his father telling him about being a winner and doing so many unnecessary things just because he was an exceptional athlete. When Andrew told his story it seemed that all the other people were going to cry because they could see that he regretted doing what he did.
One major thing that I noticed was the repetition. I was going to write about all the scenes, but it was so frequent. The first one that I noticed was when the narrator described Marla in the meetings that he once held so sacred. He compared the members and the fear of their truth to the barrel of a gun being pushed against their throats. This was exactly what was happening to him at the beginning of the story by Tyler while he was tied up. This happened multiple times in the story to take the reader back and connect everything to each other. I enjoyed the way this was
The other protagonist in the novel is Danny Saunders. Danny is the son of a very devoted Hasidic Jewish tzaddik. However, Danny is not a very enthusiastic Hasid. He has earlocks, grows a beard, and wears the traditional Hasidic outfit, but he doesn't have the reverence for it that he should. Danny is a genius. His religion forbids him to read literature from the outside world, so he struggles with his thirst for knowledge and the restraints that have been put on him by both his father and his religion. He lives with his father, mother, older sister, and younger brother in Brooklyn as well.
you know the main characters, I will explain their purpose in the novel and their
Main Character: Crash he is the only one mentioned in this whole book. He is the main main character. He is tall has blonde hair, brown eyes, and has glasses. He has a funny personality. He just wants to have fun. On the outside he is a weird, tall, skinny guy on the outside but a lost, hopeless, scared boy on the inside.
The main characters are Anne Shirley, Marilla, Matthew, Diana, and Gilbert. Anne is an orphan who has a wild imagination and loves to talk. She has red hair and freckles She is adopted by Matthew and Marilla. Matthew is a shy, old man and is very kind. His sister is Marilla. Marilla is very protective of Anne. She loves her very much, but doesn’t want to tell her. Diana is a very pretty young girl who is Anne’s best friend. Gilbert is a boy whom all the girls like, except for Anne. He gets on her nerves all of the time.
In my book the Perks of Being a Wallflower, there are four main characters. Charlie, Sam, Patrick, and Mary Elizabeth. The way that the Author describes charlie is kind of like a sensitive young man who is trying to figure out what to do with his life. He doesn’t really have any friends because last year, his best friend died and his Aunt died in a car crash. Sam seems like a really energetic young woman who loves hanging out with her friends and listening to classic rock. I think that the Author made her character perfectly because every word she says, seems like she is happy on the outside but a little lost in the inside. Patrick is a jokester who is depressed sometimes because he is gay and his boyfriend has to pretend that he doesn’t love him. He is Sam’s step brother and they seem to be great friends. He loves music as well. Mary Elizabeth is a mix between a buddhist, and a punk. She shaved half of her head and on the weekends she has a show called “punk rocky” which is supposed to be a re-make of this show called the rocky horror picture show. She dates Charlie for a while but is controlling, and Charlie doesn’t really like her because he likes sam, a lot.
