Then finally moving on to how does Ivy Tech Department of Public Safety respond to emergency situations. While there at Ivy Tech downtown campus there were two incidents which helped, me understand the polices on how Ivy Tech handles both criminal, and medical emergencies with the incidents being a disruptive student, and a student passing out temporarily. Both incidents were nothing major, however each incident revealed how each could be responded to and the ways each are handled. Starting with the disruptive student, which was handled by having another security officer and I escort the student out the classroom voluntary and had them write a voluntary statement explaining their side of the story, comparing it to the statement given by the …show more content…
teacher. After the incident, I became aware to the polices centered around how crimes were handled by the campus security. Depending on the situation, and the severity, when reported to the Command Center by either another security officer, or an outside force, the Command Center will use sound judgment to respond to the situation accordingly by either sending other security officers to help handle the situation, or call for police intervention if the situation requires it, if it were more serious matter and the person was escorted off the campus security could trespass someone, Ivy Tech’s version of temporary ban.
Since the matter was a first for the student, no serious action was taken and was just given a day suspension from the class to cool off. The second incident, a student passing out, introduced me to how medical emergencies were reported and handled. The incident had started in the C4 building while I was posted at a desk with another security officer, with a call coming in about someone fell and became unresponsive. After the call came in while the other officer grabbed the medical kit and medical forms, I rushed to the elevators and had one ready to go when the officer was ready to go up. When we got to the person, we found them already being help by other Ivy Tech staff members, and saw that the person had started to respond to the staff by looking at those who were talking to
them. After the security officer saw that they could not help further they proceeded to write the students information down while we waited for an ambulance to arrive for them to look over the student. While the student became responsive again talking to medical personnel, he was taken out by a stretcher and taken to a nearby hospital. In instances where someone hurts themselves around the campus, if the injury requires attention they let the Command Center know and provide the proper response to the situation. If the injury just a minor injury such as a cut or burn, security will help as much as they can and complete a report detailing the injury, if it’s a serious injury which requires an ambulance then Command will notify 911 and send the necessary assistance.

The penalties regarding unprofessional conduct were stated to either be a dismissal from the program, or a suspension if the chair notices that there are grounds in the case where the student’s actions may have greatly affected other peers, clients, or staff within the program (2023). Another heading under the Student Handbook that is relevant to this case is Professional Behaviour. This area of the handbook discusses that it is the student’s responsibility to read the university’s academic and non-academic misconduct under the department’s professional code of conduct. It is stated that professional behaviours should be maintained throughout clinicals, post conference, orientation, and clinical assignments (Brock University, 2023). At the same time of this occurrence there were other things that went on pertaining to transference and counter transference. The Intern and I definitely had some type of strong transference and counter transference going on. There was a clash of personalities between the intern and me. We totally did not get along. I felt uneasy and that she did not want me there in the room with her. Why? I thought that maybe she felt challenged. I don’t know, but I felt I asked the patient questions that she forgot to ask. I also gave her my opinion about treatment principle, which I do not think she appreciated. With my previous interns, I was very much part of the intake and treatment process. The interns and I would ask questions. If one forgo...
On 04/28/2018 at approximately 1300, AST received a 911 hang-up from 266 Dorm Room Rd. AST was dispatched and responded to the scene. Upon arrival Trooper Buyse and I located and approached the residence. I waited to the right of the front door, after listening for about 30 seconds I knocked on the door and announced my presence, saying “State Troopers”. At that time, I could hear arguing from inside the residence. I knocked again, said “State Troopers, open up.” I received no answer. I then drew my handgun to guard and opened the door saying, “State Troopers, don’t move!”. After entering the room, I observed that there was no immediate threat and I holstered my handgun. However, I did observe that it appeared that items had been thrown around
This particular class period consisted of around 3 students, but one student was working particularly just by himself with his teachers aid. Even before it started Ms.Metcalf classroom energy felt a bit off, and come to find out that during lunch one of the students had been teasing the other student. The student that had also been causing trouble had out of nowhere stolen paper clips off of Ms.Metcalf. The other student was not able to stay on task, because he still felt upset from the incident that occurred during lunch. This soon became more of a discipline class rather than the student learning about math, and apparently the "bully" had created pointer with the paper clips that could have actually hurt someone. Soon after Ms. Metcalf had to call the assistant principles to step in to discipline the student, and lost a entire day of instructions due to one student misbehavior. After the misbehaving student had left she went over to the emotional distraught student and began discussing that he should never let people 's words if they weren 't nice and that entire lesson became a lesson on

The number one priority for any student or teacher while attending our school system has to be public safety. Students and teachers have to exist in a safe learning environment. Today, in public school systems, our governments’ direct principals, and administration to ensure an emergency plan is in place, to carry out immediately, if the need arises, to protect all that are enrolled. Public safety has to extend beyond our secondary system and into our post-secondary educational facilities, protecting students and faculty members at all times. There should be no swaying from what is permitted on campus, in terms of firearms. The public should take heed and give this their immediate attention, if safety is going to be our number one concern.
Being the principal, I will take care of the teacher’s issue related to this incidence after handling the students’ issue. On separate occasion, I will summon the teacher and inform him of his possible violation to the Midland Independent School District (2015) Standards of Conduct pertaining to observing all safety rules and regulations and reporting injuries or unsafe conditions to a supervisor immediately. I will inform him also of his possible violation to the Texas Educators’ Code of Ethics Standard 3.5 about not intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly engaging in physical mistreatment, neglect, or abuse of a student or minor (Midland Independent School District, 2015). His entering into the restroom, seeing the assault, but leaving so quickly without reporting the incidence is a sign of neglect to the safety of the freshman being assaulted. As a consequence, I will officially reprimand the teacher by making him sign a reprimand memorandum that may be a basis for his job termination if he continues to exhibit negligence to the safety of our
Safety. This is the top priority for most Universities. Safety is important because without it danger can take the life of a dear student along with their financial contribution to the school. But it is even more important because if something were to occur to a student it could taint the University’s reputation, meaning that the school would have to live with it’s students being in fear that the same thing could happen to them. For example, Brianna Denison a resident of Reno, Nevada was kidnapped from her friend’s home. She was sexually assaulted and then murdered. (Gary C. King, “The Murder of Brianna Denison,” trutv.com.) Although she did not attend the University of Nevada, Reno, she is a horrific prime example that even in small cities such events like this can occur. Safety is the number one priority for this University, and one of our safety assets, Campus Escort, needs some improvements to maximize the security and safety of the students on Campus.
Looking broader, the school has some part of blame on this issue, why would you hire a teacher with technically, little experience counseling students. Further, it seems like Mr. Porter did not know anything about their students other than their names. Lastly, Mr. Porter is a teacher at the moment he gets the tapes he will have to turn the tapes over to officials. This means more than one person may end up in jail. This is an Ethical Dilemma that I do not want to go through, even Mr. Porter can be accused for lacking on diagnosing Hannah issue.
