The Ivy league, the most prestigious universities internationally, is the goal for every student and parents. The “perfect resume” as tiger parents states the main accomplishments in order to go into Ivy League consists of 5.0 GPA, 2400 SAT, sweeping 1st places in every music competition or even sports and volunteering at hospital or aboard. One of the common cliche is that “Students at Harvard never had below A Plus.” There are some truth to this adage. According to College data, it states that the average GPA was 4.04 - way beyond the average of UCs. The average SAT is even more ridiculous --2130 - 2400. It is pretty depressing how the college focuses more about the numbers (e.g. GPA and SAT score) instead of seeking their own passion and talent. The resources for getting perfect SAT score is there: Summer Cram session or self study. All of their scores are based on their dedication. Another contribution is to sweep any awards in olympiads and competitions. Even though preparing for competitions are extremely difficult to accomplish, the Harvard students do them. On top of that, they conduct research with college professors. The volunteering and giving back to community shows leadership and ability to engage in social life, which universities love to see. All of these are myths. They are misconception. They are all lies. The Ivy schools has no guarantee that one is going to success in their life. Some graduate students from MIT tutors math locally while some graduate from IVC might work at Google.
This episode of The First 48 documents a case in Atlanta, Georgia where two innocent, young women were brutally murdered by Ardentric Johnson, a 36 year old drug addict whom was living in the abandoned house on Madrona Street where he committed these savage murders. Ardentric Johnson had previous convictions for carrying a concealed weapon, theft, false imprisonment, and battery. In Criminal Justice and English there are concepts like Rehabilitation,Evidence, Pathos, and Logos that help solve bloody murders, just like the brutal case we saw in The First 48: The House on Madrona Street.

The ACT and SAT that supposedly measure a student's learning potential through multiple-choice questions should be replaced by a test of a student's desire to learn determined through the analysis of essays, recommendation letters, and school or community involvement. This change can result in a more academically motivated freshman class. Standardized testing in its current form does not accurately measure most students' learning potential. It does not allow for diversity and creates a huge hurdle for many potential academic achievers. An adjustment to a diverse, open testing format of the ACT or SAT and a stress on the student's other academic accomplishments can accurately measure the student's desire to learn, therefore measuring the student's learning potential.

According to statistics published by Finley (2002), of the results from the 2001 SAT's, the average verbal score for African Americans and Hispanics was 433, while for whites it was 529, and the average math score for African Americans and Hispanics was 426, while for whites it was 531. This is a big difference by about 200 points. The comparison between African American and Hispanic scores with white scores can make a big difference in the student body of colleges who place a big emphasis on SAT scores. In 1997, the dean of Berkeley said, "We have evidence that the SAT lost us two thousand Latino students this year alone." (Zwick, 1999). This shows that even in 1997, just three years after the SAT was revised, educators were still seeing problems with it.

Thousands of students around the country and around the world will be preparing for the SAT and ACT tests while trying to maintain a high GPA. These tests will potentially have a significant impact on students' lives. Some will be taking these tests for the second or even third time to get that 1500 out of 1600 or that 33 out of 36, that they long desire. These flawed tests are not truly able to measure how well students will perform in college as they are supposedly used to predict. A single test that students have to wake up for at six, seven in the morning on a Saturday and travel to some random location to take a difficult test should not impact the student's chance of getting into college, let alone predict how well they will do in college.
There is more to every student than just their standardized test scores and cumulative GPA. Behind every test score and credit earned is the person who achieved those scores all while living a life. The behind the scenes of every students’ life is the most important part. It is what makes that 4.03 GPA even more exceptional, when the events that took place during that time are unknown. However, many students fail to get in because of negligence. As known, some colleges and universities require students to have a minimum of 2.5 GPA on a scale of four. Not having a 2.5 GPA limits the chances of attending this program. The second requirement is to pass an admission test given in most colleges, called “The Student Placement Test”. This test only has two subjects: Mathematics and English. There is a minimum requirement of points that the students should get in order to enter proper in the program.
