The role of Mr. Porter’s in this book is one of the most crucial characters. Mr. Porter was the last hope for Hannah. Briefly, Mr. Porter was the counselor in the school, but he was not supposed to be in that position, he is the English professor. At first reading the cassette made me think that Mr. Porter can be blame for the death of Hannah, because Mr. Porter basically did nothing about, just told Hannah to forget about it. Initially, it seems like the less comprehensive and unprofessional responses. However, analyzing the texts I couldn’t blame Mr. Porter, he tried, unsuccessfully, but he tried. But sometimes there’s nothing left to do but move on. At this point I can see that Mr. Porter is not able to assess a student properly. Reading the cassette, he did what he was able to do. Basically, Mr. Porter listened to Hannah, however Mr. Porter did not want to dig for more. Mr. Porter was superficial. Mr. Porter probably had a better chance if he let Hannah to talk more about Hannah’s problems, instead of going straight to the point. I felt like a Mental Status Examination will be the best tool for Mr. Porter to have at that moment. A quick suicidal behavior questionnaire, because of those hints about finishing life. Once again I can’t blame Mr. Porter but he should have done something better. Looking broader, the school has some part of blame on this issue, why would you hire a teacher with technically, little experience counseling students. Further, it seems like Mr. Porter did not know anything about their students other than their names. Lastly, Mr. Porter is a teacher at the moment he gets the tapes he will have to turn the tapes over to officials. This means more than one person may end up in jail. This is an Ethical Dilemma that I do not want to go through, even Mr. Porter can be accused for lacking on diagnosing Hannah issue. Once again how to blame him, Mr. Porter is a teacher. There is a lot contradiction in this point, would Mr. Porter correct diagnosis will stop Hannah to kill
