Romeo and Juliet, an interesting play written by William Shakespeare however, it was written in the 1500s and the play itself took place in the 1300s. A lot of people wonder if the play is still relevant to today, some people doesn't think it is, but some do. The two main characters fall in love despite their fighting families and their society both of the star-crossed lovers took their lives because they could not be together openly. Romeo and Juliet’s love were forbidden, and they died because of each other. There are many reasons that Romeo and Juliet is not important to today, however, it is despite the violence used in the play as well of social class issues. You cannot choose who you fall in love with, or at least think you have fallen in love with. Romeo and Juliet had love at first sight, then they started communicating. “I have been feasting with my enemy…” (Act 2 scene 3 line 49) Romeo is talking to Friar Lawrence about Juliet and how he loves her so. This will cause tension between families and friends. The fact that they should not be together would make them want each other even more. This situation could happen in modern times as well.
Say, a poor girl marries a rich guy, there would definitely be tension between her and his family. They could call her all these hurtful names just because they don’t trust her even though she could be the nicest and kindest girl you will ever meet. His parents could not approve of her and not wishing that they marry making is forbidden love.
