In Romeo and Juliet time there were tons of rules to marriage. In Romeo and Juliet’s time the man was granted ownership over the finances of the family. This is something that is shared between couples today. Romeo and Juliet might have considered not getting married more if the rules of today had been in place. Today there are all kinds of legal paper and such involved in getting married In Romeo and Juliet the only thing that sealed the deal on marriage was the consent of both people in the partnership. If they had had to jump through all the hoops that you have to today to get married Romeo and Juliet might have realized how big of a deal marriage is. Romeo and Juliet might have been better off if today's rules had affected them. Marriage in the 14th century was much more long term and was meant to be a long lasting bond between two people, settled by the consent of the two individuals. There were also many rules to courtship. Today many of those rules are not in effect. Overall Romeo and Juliet's love was not possible for their time, their families despised each other but they were too lovestruck to see that they escalated their being together to the point at which they killed
middle of paper ... ... Again, we see that things, which appear less direct, may have actually contributed more to the situation. & nbsp; It does take two to tango. Juliet also promoted the relationship, and was too stubborn to listen to her parents' wishes. It was originally Juliet's idea for the two to wed. & nbsp; "If thy bent of love be honourable, thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow by one that I'll procure to come to thee, where and what time thou wilt perform the rites, and all thy fortunes at thy foot I'll lay." & nbsp; Juliet also could have avoided disaster had she respected her parents a bit more.
Romeo and Juliet's marriage was an irrational decision because they had barely known each other. Romeo and Juliet had met at a party earlier in the night and Romeo wished to speak with Juliet more. After only 24 hours of speaking with each other, they had already planned to marry “by the hour of nine”
The marriage eventually let to the setting up Juliet's fake death. There was also Benvolio who took Romeo to the party to meet women even though he had just broken up with someone. Lastly, there is Mercutio who caused Romeo banishment by dying in a fight. If none of these problems had occured, then Romeo and Juliet could have had a happy marriage...eventually.
Back in their day it was more common to marry young but it does not make it right. They got married without other people knowing, including the important people like their parents. They faced consequences because they thought they were in love when truly they only had feelings for each other. Romeo and juliet were young and impatient. In modern life normally people wait for love until they are older. It gives them a chance to experience new things and learn life lessons without love affecting their decisions. In modern life people think about the consequences like broken hearts or decisions affecting their future because of one person. People in modern life are smarter and more patient when it comes to love.
Romeo Montague is considered an atrocious role model because of his repeatedly impulsive and immature attitude. He tends to rush into things and makes major life choices on a whim. “But this I pray/That thou consent to marry us to-day” (2.3.64-65). This proves that Romeo is impulsive and impatient. There was no rational reason for Romeo and Juliet to get married that soon. Had they waited until they received their parents
As when Romeo says “With love’s light wings did I o’erperch these walls; for stony limits cannot hold out love can do, that dares love attempt. Therefore thy kinsmen are no let to me.” (Shakespeare 1069). This is showing Romeo would do anything to be with Juliet; whereas today some people would barely lift a finger to be with the person they love. Today most people get married at an older age that Romeo and Juliet who were in their teens. Most people that are married today have known their partner for a long time before getting married but, in Romeo and Juliet that is not the case. It is irrelevant and may even make people think about the difference between the “love” we have
How come Romeo loves someone else first, then in a instance he falls in love with someone else. Romeo was searching for Rosaline at the ballroom, when suddenly he gazes interested on Juliet’s beautiful face. Why would you marry someone you just met?! Your supposed to date and get to know each other before getting married. You could have the wrong person. Maybe, the person you married is rude, has a bad attitude, a rude personality, etc. In the year 1590’s, it really did not matter if you got married in a really young age, but it's still strange.
Romeo and Juliet was first published around 1595. At this time in England the family was one of the most central and pivotal figures of social order. Children were expected to honor and obey their parents and seek their assistance in any decisions made. Especially in choices made concerning marriage. At this time children were finally able to take a more active role in choosing their husband/wife, but parents were essentially given the final decision (Amussen 94). Romeo and Juliet took it upon themselves to make such an important decision and hardly even considered their parents in the process. During the first half of the 17th century the average age for a woman to marry was 26 and for a man, 28 (Amussen 86). Shakespeare’s central characters are barely entering their teen years. As a son coming of age, and more importantly the singular male heir for the Montague family, Romeo should be entering University to prepare himself for handling the family fortune, not marrying in secret. This is merely the beginning of his show of irresponsibility towards his family and ultimately the role he is meant to play in society.
Because the brain of an adolescent is undeveloped, it caused Romeo and Juliet to act illogically throughout the play. Even though it was not uncommon for people to be married only after knowing each other for a few days, there was no logic in Romeo and Juliet getting married after knowing each other for less than a day, even if it was “love at first sight”. There also happened to be no logic in the fact that Romeo decided to kill himself. In the play, Romeo can clearly see color in her

The theme of love is timeless. Throughout the ages is has been a common topic of controversy and delight; it is as relevant today as it appeared to be thousands of years ago. “Age does not matter in most relationships, but in marriage, it matters a lot. If you marry a younger you have to baby sit, and if you marry an older, you have to follow orders.”― M.F. Moonzajer. The stated quote shows the mentality of people and why they believe that child marriage is okay. Child marriage is when a young child is required or even forced to get married before the age of 18. More specifically, with the topic of child marriage centered toward girls, they are diminished and their rights are fundamentally taken away. If the young girls were given choice, there would not be a problem and there would not be a continuation of it currently. In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, it is clearly visible that how humans behave has not been altered since Shakespeare’s time which is evident by the
