Pyramus and Thisbe is very similar to The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, but also a little different. The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is about two young lovers that get married but their families are in a feud so they can’t tell their parents. Pyramus and Thisbe is about to young lover who want to get married, but there parents won’t let them. Romeo, Juliet, Pyramus and Thisbe are all young lovers. They both could not see each at normal times. They all killed themselves do to misunderstandings. Romeo and Juliet’s family are in a feud, but Pyramus and Thisbe’s parents are not. Pyramus and Thisbe’s parents knew of their relationship, but Romeo and Juliet’s parents did not.

Pyramus and Thisbe also fell in love on first sight and wanted to run away and get married in secret. Romeo and Juliet could not see each other often. Romeo had to wait until night to see Juliet and even then he could only go to her backyard and talk to her from her window. Pyramus and Thisbe could not see each other, they could only take through a crack in the wall: “In the wall both the houses shared a there was a little chink… Our two young people discovered it and through it they were able to whisper sweetly back and forth.” (Ovid p488) Also Romeo was exiled from Verona so they could not communicate easily. Romeo, Juliet, Pyramus and Thisbe killed themselves over misunderstandings.
Romeo killed himself because he thought Juliet died and kill herself, but really she staged her death. When Juliet woke up in the tomb next to Romeo’s dead body, she took Romeo’s dagger and killed herself. Pyramus killed himself because he thought that Thisbe died to an animal, but really she dropped her cloak and ran: “That is what Pyramus saw when he appeared a few minutes later.” (Ovid p488) Thisbe looked for Pyramus and when she saw that he stabbed himself she took the knife out of him and stabbed herself.
Romeo and Juliet's families are in a feud which makes meeting difficult while Pyramus and Thisbe's parents knew of their relationship, but didn’t want them seeing each other, they kept their relationship and their parents didn’t know: “They longed to marry, but their parents forbade.” (Ovid p.488) It wasn’t just Romeo and Juliet’s parents forbidding them from having a relationship it was everyone else in there family too. Romeo and Juliet's parents did not know of their relationship, but Friar lawrence and the Nurse knew about there relationship causing more drama among the town: “Then hie you hence to Friar Laurence's' cell; There stays a husband to make you a wife.” (Shakespeare p418) Pyramus and Thisbe's parents only knew about their relationship. Their parents forbade them from being together but after that they kept their relationship secret. Romeo Juliet Pyramus and Thisbe were all young lovers. They all could not see each other at anytime they wanted to. Romeo and Juliet’s families were in a feud while Pyramus and Thisbe's parents just didn’t want them seeing each other. Romeo and Juliet’s parents never knew about their relationship until they found them dead in the Capulet tomb, Pyramus and Thisbe’s parents knew about their relationship until they thought they had broken it up. All four of them killed themselves because they thought or knew there lover was dead.
The marriage of Romeo and Juliet was not meant to be, but it was made by Friar Lawrence. The marriage led to some of the turning points in the rest of the story. The three are responsible for their death because of their marriage and the plans they made to avoid having to get remarried. The families are also responsible for the death of the two because they did not let the two be together and forced them to marry others.

“Romeo and Juliet” is so much like “Pyramus and Thisbe” it is excruciatingly obvious. These timeless tales tell the story of true love, and also the loss of death. “Romeo and Juliet” can compare to “Pyramus and Thisbe” for three reasons; the lovers come from disagreeing families, the tales are both tragedy, and they are based on misconception and ill-timing. Although these stories are painful, they are also true to human nature, and that is why they are so similar.
One of the people I think is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death is Mercutio. Mercutio had evoked a fight with his enemy Tybalt.During the fight, Mercutio was killed by Tybalt and Mercutio put a curse on both of their families.
In both of the stories, each of the characters fell in love with each other. Romeo fell in love with Juliet and Pyramus fell in love with Thisbe. This was one of the choices they decided to make, in Romeo and Juliet. They met at a dance and once they had figured out they were each other's enemies they decided to rush marriage, which in a fact is rushing love. “Juliet: If that thy bent of love be honorable, Thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow… (Shakespeare 407).” Romeo and Juliet are rushing into love, they are young and it is not destiny upon them it was a choice that could have been made. Famous texts often have many similarities as it makes good discussions to find all the possible things that are very related to one another. These certain texts between Romeo and Juliet and Pyarum and Thisbe are almost so closely related, that there are infamous of resemblances that you can point out. There are the obvious general observations, but once you dig deep, you find that there are much more comparisons that meet the eye. Since they are so closely related, we are able to really truly understand the concepts that stand out through each reading. This will make our thoughts deeper and more powerful towards both texts. In Romeo and Juliet, the text is very similar to Pyramus and Thisbe through a love connection between characters even though differences between families make it a struggle, miscommunication and misunderstandings, and the conclusion of a tragedy.
The first way that Romeo and Juliet is similar to Pyramus and Thisbe is the two lovers wanting to run away together. With Pyramus and Thisbe, the lovers couldn’t be together and therefore were willing to leave everything behind to be together for the remainder of their lives. In the case of Romeo and Juliet, they were under much more pressure and stress to come to their decision. After Romeo was banished, Juliet was to feign death and then when Romeo came to get her they were to leave Verona and never come back. It is said so in Act IV, Scene i, lines 116 and 117, “Will watch thy waking, and that very night Shall Romeo bear thee hence to Mantua.” These words are spoken by Friar Lawrence explaining his plan to Juliet. This was supposed to get them out of Verona without anyone pursuing and bringing her back to marry Paris. Surely, the couples’ decision to run away from their homes and leave everything was a common thought in their minds.

Poems and mythology can connect with differences and similarities just as easily as a person can fight from different characteristics of themselves. The main theme in both stories is the forbidden love between two people. There are many similarities in these tales but also some outstanding differences. In Romeo and Juliet, there was a family feud between two families the Capulets and the Montagues which did not allow the two star crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet to be together. “ From ancient grudge to new mutiny”( Shakespeare 377).
First, in the Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Juliet purposely fakes her death to be with Romeo while in Pyramus and Thisbe Thisbe didn’t try to fake her death. Finally, in Pyramus and Thisbe, Pyramus doesn’t actually see Thisbe’s’ dead body before he killed himself, while Romeo went to Juliet’s tomb to die with his lover. First up is in both stories both men kill themselves believing their true loves were dead. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is banished so when his servant Balthasar comes to him saying Juliet is dead he believes him. “Her body sleeps in Capels’ monument” (Act Like in Romeo and Juliet the Montagues’ and Capulets’ have a long lasting feud and would have had a huge fit if they found out Romeo and Juliet were married.
