A concrete example of interpersonal conflict happened between the restless 20-year old optometry patient and the staff of the Emergency Department in the 5th case. An expressed disagreement about the patient's demand to be immediately seen by the doctor and the Triage nurse lack of assessment of not being a priority aggravated the challenging behavior of the male patient from excessive distress brought about by his health condition.

Horizontal violence is not a topic that medical faculties discuss on a day-to-day basis, but it is an enormous problem within the health care system. In this research the author looks at bulling from a registered nurse (r.n.) aspect .The effects on patient centered care can be detrimental for patients and r.n.’s. The work place needs to be a safe place for not only the patients but also the employees. With the rise of new graduate nurses who are employed by the medical facilities, they too are starting to face horizontal violence within the first year on the job, which leads to retention of nurses in the medical field. Horizontal violence will continue to arise if nurses do not stand up to bullying and empower victims to speak up on horizontal violence.
Nurses are caring by nature. Nurses care for family members while at home, community members who may be neighbors, church members or friends from school and sports with children in common; however, nurses are known to display uncaring attitudes towards each other. When nurses are discourteous and disrespectful towards one another this may be known as workplace incivility. Incivility is defined by Merriam-Webster as, “the quality of state of being uncivil and a rude or discourteous act” (n.d.). Alexander (2017) related incivility to the events of the 2016 United States election as “rude and impolite behaviors that may be manifested when people feel fear or mistrust” (p. 79). Healthcare is subject to the same negative influence through communication between healthcare providers, educators and patients.
Employee psychological health is something that should be taken into consideration when a person can improve the outcome of new graduate nurses and seasoned nurses alike; this is something that I know I will continue to strive for creating healthy working environments for staff and myself. Using many of the techniques that have been researched and continue to keep abreast of the most current research will aid in achieving the most positive outcome for staff and patients. Personally I would be embarrassed at the thought of someone questioning my nursing judgment and actions. I am not someone to get confrontational when I know I have made a mistake even a small mistake. I try to be very aware about my actions and how I affect others. I believe I would most likely breakdown emotionally and explain how I had become unintentionally over involved. I would explain I just wanted to help Matt because he reminds me so much of my brother. I also would say that I am having problems with my husband and I felt like I had a good connection with Matt. I just seen a hurting body and soul and just didn’t want him to fall into a greater depression. Interpersonal conflict is very common with many relationships. It occurs when two people can not meet in the middle or agree on a discussion. Cooperation is key to maintaining a healthy debate. I experienced and resolved an ethical conflict during my first year in the nursing field. The incident occurred at the long-term care nursing facility, at which I worked, in which I witnessed verbal, physical, and emotional abuse of several patients at work by a disgruntled certified nurse assistant (CNA). As a mandated reporter, I had to inform our supervisor of the events I witnessed. In this case, I had observed a particular CNA cursing at patients and calling them foul names, neglecting to care for them during the night, which resulted in entire bed strips and skin breakdown, and roughhousing them when they were not complying with her demands. She bullied and intimated not only the patients but the staff as well. Given the women's demeanor, many of my co-workers were fearful and would not report the wrong she was doing to patients. Despite being mandated reporters and witnessing the horrific, unethical treatment of several seniors (abuse/neglect), the other nurses chose to remain silent to avoid conflict.
