Nursing questions can be tricky to answer. Luckily, there are various methods used to help students answer questions. Some of the question methods are Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, ABC’s (Airway, Breathing, and Circulation), least invasive to most invasive, and “which patient will die first.” However, given all of the tips the questions are difficult to answer and require critical thinking. Unlike other black or white questions, nursing questions focus on the best answer amongst the four. After taking the NCLEX self-analysis quiz there were two questions that were incorrect and various complicated questions that required more time to ponder on the answer choices. The questions that were incorrect or gave problems were questions that focused …show more content…
Question one and twenty were similar in the type of remediation that was necessary in order to stop the conflict from occurring. The theme that the student noticed with the question was the nurse’s role of stopping the person from becoming upset, before solving the problem. She learned by answering these questions that remediation is the priority in this situation. Being able to calm the situation before addressing the problem and solving the bigger issue. Additionally, for question twenty, by process of elimination option three was wrong because it was not therapeutic communication and it did not solve the immediate problem, the doctor’s anger. Reporting the incident to the chief nursing officer was unnecessary, and would only heighten the issue (Towson University, 2017). Option one is not wrong, but it is not the first thing the nurse should do, this is the option the student wanted to pick in the beginning. However, the question required her to reread and identify the stem of the question, the doctors anger. Hargrove – Huttel & Cadenhead (2009), reinforced this rationale by providing a deeper rationale that the charge nurse’s first action is to diffuse the doctor’s anger especially since inappropriate behavior should not be at the nurse’s station (pp.
Nursing research is a systematic enquiry that seeks to add new nursing knowledge to benefit patients, families and communities. It encompasses all aspects of health that are of interest to nursing, including promotion of health, prevention of illness, care of people of all ages during illness and recovery (or) towards a peaceful and dignified death (ICN 2009)
Besides assertive communication, the nurse should take a collaborative approach to conflict management. Both strategies empower individuals to work together and accomplish goals successfully (Cherry & Jacob, 2011). Considering the healthcare community is composed of such a large and diverse population, a nurse must realize that conflicts will arise, but more importantly the nurse must effectively manage those conflicts. Having an understanding of the differences which exists between varied cultures, generations, and disciplines will guide the nurse in resolving conflicts. This foundation allows the nurse to better understand how people perceive and respond to others and the environment during a time which resolution is needed. Establishing trust with ones colleagues is another step toward resolving conflicts. Team members are much more likely to be open and motivated to come to a resolution when they trus...
The second example of conflict observed in the unit was between the two UNP and the charge nurse. The UNP was assigned care for six patients and wanted a break even though she arrived on the unit a few hours ago. The charge nurse explained to UNP, that she had to administer medication to one of the patients because patient pain was uncontrollable and would like the UNP to assist her with other patient needs before going for a break.
INTRODUCTION There are many things that affect a student’s enrolment as a nurse the student must be competent in the many registration standards that the Nursing Midwifery Board of Australia have set. The stigmas attached to students with Impairments and or Criminal histories and the ineligibility to register. Nursing is defined by the International Council of Nursing (2014) as collaborative care of individual’s any age health or ill of all communities, groups, in all situations. Health promotion, illness prevention and the care of unwell, disabled and dying people are included in the nursing practice. Encouraging a safe environment, research, contributing to shape health policies and health systems management, and education are also key nursing
Consent has been a fundamental part of nursing practice dating back as far as Hippocrates in ancient Greece. The Hippocratic Oath is an ancient form of guideline, devised for those who chose to enter the medical profession. Here these guidelines show physician-patient conversation were key components in healthcare, along with ensuring patients were kept informed on issues related to their health and the importance of gaining consent during the delivery of care (Miles, 2009).
The program director, the associate director, the administration, the head of nutrition and metabolism research as well as the nursing staff. All these personnel are charged with different responsibilities when combined helps in realization of an effective outcome that improves the nursing practice.
Conflict has been an issue for man since the dawn of civilization. In today’s fast paced world conflict, especially in the workplace, is a frequent occurrence. When that workplace is a health care environment where lives are at stake, emotions run high and collaboration with many different disciplines is required conflict often becomes a prevalent part of everyday life. Conflicts in the workplace can lead to reduced morale, lowered productivity resulting in decreased patient care and can cause large scale confrontations (Whitworth 2008). In the field of nursing whether a conflict is with a peer, supervisor, physician, or a patient and their family, conflict management is a necessary skill.
For this assignment I had the pleasure sitting down with Emily Petermeier and getting an insight on what the real nursing world is like. Emily graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing in May 2015, and got a job at Fairview East Bank Hospital. This interview really helped me understand what it is like to be a new nurse and the dedication that I have to have going through nursing school and throughout my career. In the interview you will see the perspective of Emily’s endeavors after college and insight for future nurses or nursing students.

Nursing theory is the foundation of the nursing practice, has been researched, measured for positive outcomes, and directed nursing care since the beginning. Nurses to improve their practice of providing positive patient care if guidelines are followed can use nursing theories. The purpose of theory is to have a model to follow to deliver safe and effective care, and to achieve positive patient outcomes. The purpose of this paper is to define theory and the purpose of theory, explain the four patterns of the nursing metaparadigm and explain the importance of theory in the nursing practice.
In this chapter I learn different learning domains and techniques to help answer nursing questions.
The interdisciplinary course is a core requirement in the after-degree nursing program as it incorporates the principles of self-directed learning and promotes critical thinking, which is an essential element in nursing practice. As a final year nursing student, I believe that knowledge from this course will enhance my ability to provide patient-centered care.
1.The characteristics that intrigued me of the nursing practice was as a patient at the Danbury Medical Center. As a patient, the nurses gave me the most delightful patient care ever received. They took their time to make sure my care was an urgency. When my pain had increased the nurses were there by my side. They had taken the time to make sure the proper dose of medicine was given to me at the correct time. Even though my current status was lying in bed with a fractured femur. They took the time to make sure my needs were met. I had never expected that going to the hospital from flying off a cliff on my skateboard would direct me in my future dream job. The nurses showed me what patient care really and truly was. Patient care is putting others in front of your own needs. Being a great nurse is showing your patient that there is hope. Patient care is not only making sure your patient is satisfied but making sure their family and loved ones are cared for as well.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Roles and Negotiating Health Care Systems course was an essential millstone not only for my carrier establishment as a future Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), but also as an ambitious graduate student and an innovative leader in the nursing field in Saudi Arabia. I believe the multiple level of interactive learning in the class was very helpful for my professional communication skills. At the social level with my primary group, I learned how to develop a flexible weekly work plan based on members individualized schedules and priorities. At the larger professional encounter level with the other groups and the professor discussions, I learned how to contribute constructively and apply abstract concepts into the clinical settings. In addition, the lecture’s content was very applicable, realistic and up to date.
The scientific basis for the health of the public that provides the scientific foundation for the practice of the profession is nursing research. Nursing research includes utilizing numerous philosophical and theory-based approaches as well as various methodologies (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2015). Furthermore, nursing research involves identifying and treating symptoms of acute and chronic illnesses as well as the prevention and delaying of the disease process. Nursing research also focuses on deferring the onset of the disease process, disability, slowing the progression and improving clinical settings. Therefore, the influence of research on the practice of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is essential for the preparation
