Dear International Student Scholarship Committee:
I am applying for the International Student Scholarship 2016. I am currently a Junior majoring in Biology, with a minor in Genetics. My anticipated graduation date will be in May, 2017. I believe I am a worthy candidate for the International Student Scholarship, because I have demonstrated strong academic performance as well as leadership skills through my involvement in student activities. Further, due to my financial situation, I have taken up part time jobs to fund a portion of my college expenses.
Throughout the two and a half semesters in Iowa State University, I have taken a rigorous curriculum, and I am confident to say that my academic performance reflects the dedication and passion I have for my scholarly pursuits very well. Despite the extracurricular activities and part time jobs, I was able to maintain a 3.85 grade point average. Apart from my academic achievement, I also have experience in teaching, as I am currently a teaching assistant and an academic tutor for several biology and genetic courses. The teaching experiences have remarkably enhanced my academic life as I get to learn useful skills

I hold several different positions from student organizations such as the International Student Council, International Student Ambassador Club, and the Association of Malaysian Students. In addition to that, I have volunteered for community projects such as TEDx Penang Road in Malaysia, and TEDx Iowa State here on campus. Even though these activities could be time-consuming, I decided to commit due to my desire of meeting new people and working in a team. By participating in activities such as active discussion, event planning, and project execution with my teammates, I was able to hone my communication and leadership skills. Being committed to such responsibilities has made me a highly reliable and disciplined
The AMGEN Summer Scholars research experience will contribute to my plans to become a M.D./Ph.D. candidate, and ultimately an Oncologist, by helping me develop critical and independent thinking as well as creative skills as they relate to the field of medicine. It will also help me develop a more thorough understanding of biological concepts, how they directly apply to medical treatment, and the ways in which biotechnology fuses multiple fields of science to create technologies to care for others. The opportunity to assist in creation of the technologies that will be used on my future patients will ultimately improve my ability to treat their illnesses in adaptive ways. The opportunity I would have to read, interpret, and be a part of creating
Scholarship, leadership, character, and service are four attributes that define an excellent student. Being in high school, it’s difficult at times to be a leader, show your character, and be involved with voluntary services while being focused on scholarship, but I have managed to do all four numerous times. I am so grateful and excited to have the chance to be a part of the National Honors Society.
What are the circumstances that brought you to apply for the foundation emergency fund scholarships?
Throughout high school I have dreamed of having the opportunity to attend Indiana University. I have a true passion for babies. I love to learn how babies are developed and how they become such an amazing part of the world. Therefore, I would like to apply to Indiana University and pursue a degree in Pediatric Nursing. I would love to be able to deliver babies and deliver new life into this earth. There are several opportunities available for me to get involved with new leadership opportunities. I want to be able to be a leader for all age groups.
Scholarship is not the only pillar that I have achieved. I also possess Leadership, Character, and Service that make me a well rounded individual. Leadership is one of the qualities that I have strengthened over the years because I have put myself out there and gotten involved in a variety of things. I have also developed my character over the years I have been in high school. Lastly, I put myself out there because one person can help to change the world that we live in. Developing myself as a person over the past few years has helped me move forward to satisfy the other three pillars.
San Diego is home to many hardworking individuals who diligently work during the week and long for their days off to visit the many attractions the city has to offer. Whether it is heading to work or going to Balboa Park for a family outing, San Diegans are conscious that MTS is there to ensure they arrive to their destination in a convenient and timely manner. Being California’s second largest city, San Diego is vulnerable to frustrating traffic during rush hours, yet people are slowly recognizing MTS’s efforts to alleviate this issue and ensure that not only arrive to their destination on time, but do so efficiently; cost is not an issue and the routes are well-planned in effort to avoid traffic. People often think badly of public transportation; MTS has become an exception since it has been invested in creating a positive experience for both San Diegans who use the transportation system on a daily basis or those who ride a single bus once.
International Aid operates in almost every corner of the globe, is part of the transfer of billions of dollars of assistance through countless organizations, charities, and funds; and involves the efforts of hundreds of thousands of dedicated workers and affects billions of people. . This paper will provide a historical summary of how aid has grown and developed in stages, from a humanitarian concept first applied in the 19th century to established international policy and law following the Second World War and later the Cold War. We will review the impact of the wave of newly independent nations in the 1940’s and 1950’s and the rise of multinational aid organizations in the 1970’s and non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) in the 1980’s. We will conclude by detailing recent emerging trends in aid through the 1990’s into the present day.
As a child I did not know a lot about college. None of the adults in my life had been to College, my family did not talk about it, and it seemed like a distant land that I heard about only in movies and on Television. I was first introduced to college when my third grade class took a field trip to Iowa State University, clearly a much needed field trip considering my lack of exposure to higher education. I was immediately amazed by the grand architecture and massive buildings. I had never seen anything like a University campus before. The few things that I remember about the trip were that everything was big, the college students played with us, and we got to swim in the pool. While the larger purpose of the field trip may have been lost to my childhood excitement of getting to swim in a big pool, the field trip did mark the beginning of my knowledge of higher education and from then on I always viewed it as something that I would be a part of eventually, even if it did seem like a very distant future at age eight. As I grew older I developed other reasons for wanting to attend colle...
College Education is of the utmost importance to me especially when competing with people in my age group. A college education is also one of the most costly obligations that one must do to gain success. In my academic career, I have gain many experiences that I may not have been able to experience had I not attended a post-secondary education. A college education has never been an option for me it was always instilled in my brain as an adolescent as a top priority. In my youth I was certain of my goals and aspirations, the person that I wanted to become and where I see myself in the future. Some people in my same age group with similar upbringing as mine had ne focus. Their prerogative was to acquire money in any way that they knew how. Their options including, dealing drugs or for women prostitution and or becoming a hair stylist. I was adamant that in my profession a college education was not only necessary as a requirement to obtain a law license but also there were no exit strategies. To elucidate I am speaking of secondary options such as a technical school. My peers often believed that my choice would change and I was just hoping that their state of minds too would alter. My dreams of becoming a lawyer was slowly approaching as I reached the age of 18. High school teachers of mine often attempted to sway me into a different direction since I was not as outspoken as my fellow classmates. However, I would inform them just as I have revealed to others that my dream is everlasting and my path is clear. I will become a lawyer and today examining the course of my short academic years—spending only 17 years in school beginning with Head Start- I would be the attorney I have always wanted to be. Life has not always been daisies wi...
When returning to school as a non-traditional student you need to set goals for yourself. I have decided to return to school as a non-traditional student, at the age of 35. Almost all of my adulthood was spent in the United States Marine Corps. Due to scheduling conflicts during my time in the military I was unable to attend college. Now that I am out of the Military it has been hard to secure a new career path, because businesses want someone with a degree.
Being an international student is exciting. It offers a lot of exposure and scope for improvement. Canada has a lot of institutions that accept foreign students, but before that, the practical difficulties an international student might face in the country should be noted.
Study Abroad Application Essay A semester abroad serves as a central component of any International Relations education at Hendrix College; benefiting Hendrixians both personally and academically by incorporating global perspectives to our study. The educational and professional opportunities afforded by the newly-christened Cyprus program caught my attention immediately upon announcement. Studying in the Eastern Mediterranean would enrich my liberal arts experience considerably by allowing me to further both my political and photographic studies in a new, diverse environment. I believe that preparation for such an experience cannot be understood as a sum of individual skills, nor as a crash-course on Cyprian heritage and politics.
A global citizen is that who is willing to use its voice and knowledge to make a change. No one would ever be able to make a change in just one day, it is something that takes time and devotion. I’m really interested in diversity and I’m seeking to what is my role is as a world citizen. The fact that I’m searching for an international education is the proof of my desire to establish myself as a global citizen and my interest in the world issues.
Throughout my life, I have had plenty of opportunities to take on demanding roles in my school, community, and personal life. My many commitments included competitive dance, volunteering at my local hospital, maintaining high grades in school, and taking part in the planning of a variety of other school and community events. The
Before I come to the United State as an exchange student, I lived in Thailand. I was also born in Thailand. I was always wanted to get the experiences in other country. I am so lucky that my parents are supporting me. Some of my friends, they are also want to study abroad but their parents did not agree with. I could not be here if my parents did not support me and give me suggestions. I came to U.S. in the senior year but my school put me in junior because they could not let me graduate if I will be study in this school just 1 year. So I have to repeat another year but I know this is not worthless, it is priceless.
