Intern Shadowing Reflective Summary
My intern shadowing experience at ASPIRE, has made me even more excited about my internship position there this coming spring. After shadowing, I still believe that my HDFS classes and work experience has thoroughly prepared me for this internship, and mental stamina it requires. Through this shadowing experience I was able to witness and play a small active role in the ASPIRE clinics intern’s daily duties. I learned that my primary responsibility as an ASPIRE intern will be to help with the daily running and upkeep of the Aspire Clinic. This will include administrative tasks, answering phones, making appointments, communicating with clients, filing & organizational tasks, and supporting the staff at ASPIRE.

My intern shadowing experience started off when arrived at ASPIRE at 2 pm and was introduced to the other interns, Trinity, Moira, and Clare in the intern office. After initial introductions, I read and was explained the importance of the confidentiality agreement by Trinity. Next Trinity took me on a tour of the ASPIRE clinic’s facilities and I learned the importance of each clinical rooms setting. Trinity gave me an idea of what goes on at the ASPIRE clinic behind the scenes. Following my tour, we went back to the intern office where Trinity explained to me the intern’s responsibility when it comes to opening and closing procedures of the clinic.
She also showed me How to use Dropbox & intro to important documents, the call log, calendar, and website. Next Trinity walked me through checking clients in and out, and how to write receipts/ handle payments.
After going over a large chunk of intern’s responsibilities we took a short break where I relaxed asked questions and got to know the current interns. Finally after the short break Moira showed us how to use the phones, schedule/reschedule clients, how to conduct initial consultations, and where the important paperwork’s are located.
Through my intern shadow experience, I am even more confident that this internship will provided me with valuable, real-world experience that will help me grow in various ways as a student and as a future Marriage and Family Therapist. My intern shadowing experience was very positive because it gave me an idea of what ASPIRE is like and what kind of work happens daily. I learned the major tasks performed by interns and understand the level of organization & competence an intern requires. After this experience I am excited to receive the official intern handbook and start familiarizing myself more thoroughly with the daily procedures I will be
performing.
My internship began with a short orientation of KPMG’s office located in the Wells Fargo Building of downtown Minneapolis. After some introductions and a few training sessions that outlined what was expected of us in terms of the rules and laws we were required to follow including disclosure of client and firm information and independence affidavits, for example, we were briefed on our trip to Orlando for National Internship Training which would take place the following work day. Training for Partnership-focused federal tax interns would last a whole week filled with events and educational seminars that would introduce us to tax fundamentals and software tutorials that would be helpful during our time with KPMG. National Internship Training would be the primary training session for every KPMG intern in the nation, hosting thousands of interns assigned to all pillars of accounting (audit, tax, and advisory). During meals and events the interns had opportunities to meet interns from around the country helping to expand our professional and social networks, which I found to be one ...
For two semesters of my junior year, I interned at Huntsville Hospital, shadowing nurses and technicians in many different areas of the hospital, including the emergency room and cardiovascular units. Oddly enough, I liked giving obese, old patients bed baths, helping them to the bathroom, and cleaning their bed pans. But, don’t get me wrong. It wasn’t exactly what I loved doing, but I knew it was part of the job, and I willingly did the dirty work. By the end of my junior year, I knew I loved the hospital environment and wanted to eventually work there; however, I just didn’t know in what capacity.
During this internship I had a variety of tasks that made me understand and develop my skills in cardiac rehab, stress testing, working at the hospital in the CVCU, and also talking to the patients in the hospital about coming to outpatient cardiac rehab. During my time in the outpatient cardiac rehab I have learned and perfected how to take a manual blood pressure, check heart rates, oxygen levels, and be able to teach and instruct our patients on healthy habits to ensure they are staying healthy and active outside the rehab facility. I learned to do a full disclosure on a patient, meaning to check their EKG, find out their max heart rates during exercise, and send a note to the doctor if anything abnormal should occur. I’ve learned to chart and tech
are responsible for doing the intake with the clients. However, before interns can lead intakes by themselves they have to go through training. The interns have to learn about the paper work, learn how to explain the paperwork, and learn how to score the needed paperwork. After that is learned they then have to watch as a supervisor leads intakes. They take notes on what she says and how she engages with the clients. Then using their supervisors notes they will learn how to put the client information into the database and how to write the notes. Interns will then start to take their own notes on the clients and once they finish the supervisor looks over them. Finally the interns lead some intakes with a supervisor watching. After the supervisor feels they are ready they are on their

The 4-hour shadowing experience at Casa De La Luz Hospice was insightful to the aspects of palliative care. The experience included shadowing the hospice physician and nurse as they calmly interacted with the patients, assessing for abnormalities in ABC, safety, and pain. Additionally, this experience provided examples of therapeutic communication techniques that were appropriate when speaking to patients and families.
Overall, this internship was a great experience for me to grow and learn from actual physical therapists. Even though some days may have been repetitive and boring, I attempted to make the most out of my time at ATI because I was given an opportunity to see how my potential future could look like some day. Further, I was able to work with willing and experience physical therapists that answered every question I had.
For my leadership paper I chose to shadow Sean Ennist, the Operating Room Director of Premier Bone and Joint Center, Laramie. Sean is an RNFA, so he often scrubs into surgery, but the first day I shadowed him he was filling in for a circulator. Seeing him a role that he was not as confident in made him more vulnerable, honest, and easier to connect with. This encounter happened on my very first day of senior capstone, so it was a great start. Within seconds of knowing he was a leader, I knew I wanted to shadow him. Sean is someone, even in a vulnerable state, that everyone in the operating room and facility respects.
I am currently doing my internship at Cradles to Crayons, I started my internship on September 5th and the internship that I am doing is called partner relations. First day, I meant with my supervisor and another student that is interning at Cradles to Crayons. Second, I had to read the agency handbook and sign some papers. Then I was trained by another intern that is currently working there. I watched and learned about the different things that I will be completing doing my time at Cradles to Crayons. I had to get all the packages (kid packs) for the case managers that arrived on Tuesday because Tuesday is pick up day. I help the case managers with their orders. I also did a lot of labeling of products that go out to the children, and a lot
I got to attend a class to see how CNAs put residents’ information into a system called Answers on Demand (AOD). A lot of the meetings I got to sit in on had nurses in them and since nurses are the ones taking care of the residents on a daily basis, I get to learn how they form bonds with them. I didn’t get to spend any one on one time with a nurse and that’s the only thing I regret not taking advantage of. I got to spend time with the Director of Clinical Services and she informed me of what she provides to the clinical team and an overview of what she does. In the social services area, I got to work closely with the independent living social work team because they were under Resident Services. I got to observe the independent living weekly meetings and the combined social work meetings bi-weekly. I spent time in Assisted Living and Parsons Health Care (PHC) care planning meetings, so I got to see how the meetings were conducted with the residents/families and staff. When I sit in on the meetings, I get to see the process of how the social work team will get the resident to transition through the continuum of care. For food service, I met with the Director of Dinning and he gave me a general overview of the dinning facilities with WCR. Then I met with the Supervisor of Parsons Health Center and she showed me the main kitchen where all the residents’ food is made. Next, she showed me how the food is delivered to each dinning room in Assisted Living (AL) and PHC. After the food gets to the dinning rooms, they are then taken out the insulated carts and then temperature checked. Then the residents get to pick out what they want for their meal and the staff will serve it to them, making sure to check their dietary
A shadowing experience can be simply about ‘shadowing’, or it can be much more than that. There are obvious limitations to shadowing, but in that lays its strengths. A shadow is not responsible for any direct patient care, and therefore the shadow’s attention can be focused on active observation. What do I mean by ‘active’ observation? Studies have found that approaching a subject with a serious of questions, not only improves attention and memory, but it also positively changes the learner’s attitude. Using this approach, I hope to gain the best shadowing experience. By doing this I will learn not only the clinical side of a physician’s practice, but also the role of a doctor in the macrocosm that is a hospital. I have many questions regarding
The internship that I acquired during the summer of 2010 at the Greenwood Sports and Industrial Rehabilitation Center (GSIRC), allowed me to gain an immeasurable amount of experience during my tenure at this facility. Within this period, the exposure to new concepts within the physical therapy industry allowed me to observe and work hands on with patients of all ages and disabilities that exposed me to various treatment plans and programs to restore client’s mobility. The essential Physical Education and Exercise Science (PEES) courses taken at Lander University were beneficial to my academic knowledgebase, which prepared me and developed me for the opportunity within the physical therapy discipline. Working as an intern taught me the responsibility of time management and working within a lean schedule that allow me to further develop my skill set. This reflection paper will illustrate my classroom experience, internship experience, and learning experience.
Today is the second session that I had counselor with this particle client. He came in to see me for the same problem that he had before. But except this time client had be doing a little than before. Before I started with the interview I had use the five stages and dimension of the interviews a client. I want to have an empathic relationship with my client, and gathering story and find the strength of my client is part of getting to know my client. This time I had set a realistic goal that my client can work toward without feeling that he is not in control of making the decision. The next is stage restoring finding what is not working now and trying to find an alternative that will work then take the action of letting the client go or
Being an intern for Meijer has been a great experience. It has allowed me to experience what community pharmacy is all about and at the same time challenged me to grow professionally. Alongside my progression in pharmacy school, I feel that I have become more confident in all my actions that I do in the pharmacy. My knowledge about different drugs has grown and I feel that I am able to answer more questions (both from pharmacy team members and patients). One of the biggest areas that I believe that I have improved upon this year is processing insurance claims. A couple areas that I could still improve upon are Sync Script and pharmacy inventory management.
During the course of time, I’ve learned many useful things that have led me to be the person I want to be today. From college classes to work experiences, I now have the ability to exceed upon internship experiences that can shape my perspective on life. The purpose of this paper is to summarize, reflect, analyze, and synthesize on my internship experience at the Children’s Home of Reading-Acute Partial Hospitalization Program.
