“The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, No real success is possible, No matter it is on a section gang, A football field, in the army, or in a office,””Dwight D, Eisenhower”. What this meant to me is that a leader is made up of integrity, no matter where they are at, they will work just as hard no matter what. These are the word i live by and this is my story. It was the last game of the season. The championship game against are rivals highland park. The score was 28-21 and we were down. We had just scored and we were kicking the ball off. They have the ball on our twenty yard line and they are slowly progressing and gaining yards, we needed to stop them, and quick! The ball was on the left hash, the same side i was on. I was playing corner blocking the outside receiver. The older quarterback snapped the ball he …show more content…
The play clock was counting down 15… 14… 13… i ran to the other side of the field and i got it and ran towards the line i put the tee down 5… 4… 3… i got my steps, the ball was snapped 1… i kicked the ball the official blew the whistle and the kick didn’t count. They moved the ball back. Twenty yard field goal. I knew i could make it although i knew if i missed this field goal we would have lost the whole season and it would have been my fault. Once again we all lined up, i took my steps and i took a deep breath, i looked at the holder nodded then glazed back at the tee knowing what i had to do the ball was hiked and i took my steps forward, the ball was down on the tee i felt the laces go into my foot as i kicked the ball it came off perfectly. The ball was in the air the crowed roared as it sore through the thin chill air, Every second felt like minutes. The ball curved through the wind. The ball kept on floating out left. The ball hits off of the goal poast. It was no good. We had lost the game the crowd sung silent as we walked off the
The principle of standing alone means that a person is not connected or dependent on anything societal or emotional. An example of this is the current presidential race: each candidate must speak independently when speaking to the public; none should rely on other people to write their opinions for them, otherwise that would compromise their integrity in the race. However they are giving up these personal comforts in exchange for being able to be able to lead the country, and to prove their individual important point. The whole reason people choose to stand alone is so that can prove an important point. It is important to stand alone, even when giving up personal comforts, in order to contest against an injustice in a society.
They have profound convictions for for their leadership; Their behavior always reflect their core values and they view themselves as individuals that “lead with their hearts as well as their heads while also building enduring organizations” (George 2003). Leaders are encouraged to maintain the perception of authenticity but making sure that their words are consistent and reflect their action or intentions. They should not be so pompous and arrogant that they cannot relate to or find mutual and common ground with their staff. (Goffee & Jones 2005)
...slapshot from the point. Two minutes later the puck broke loose from one of the other team's defensman and landed on our most talented player’s stick. He is not only as fast as lightning but can also stick handle around any NHL team blindfolded. He made a quick move to the left, and then to the right. He took the shot which went top shelf on the right side. The second I saw the net move I knew we had done it. The underdog team defeated the 1st ranked team in the state championship game for Missouri high school hockey. An uproar from the mob of people could have been heard from two miles away. I couldn’t believe we had done it. We beat the odds, and took the cup. I felt shivers travel down my bruised and cut body. The hard work did pay off, for we had done it. The tears were flowing like the water dropping from the Niagara Falls. We were State Champions.
The horn blew and the game started, Dedham won the face off and is running down the field at a faster pace than I was used to. They shot the ball! I couldn’t move my stick quick enough to save it, so I threw my body in front of it and got hit right in the shoulder. It hurt a lot, but what I hadn’t realized was that it hit my shoulder and reflected ten feet away from the net where my player caught it and ran down the field and scored. The other team didn’t know what hit them. It was the half now and the score was three to nothing in our favor. Our couch told us that we needed to keep up the good work.
Riley, our starting quarterback, placed his hands on the helmet of the right tackle, as he did every play. He called the play looking straight into my eyes signaling the pass was coming to me. My entire body tingled with excitement as I ran to the left of the field. I could feel my cleats dig into the soft, freshly cut field as I took my stance. I looked up into the sky seeing only white lights which created the stage for the football field. As I brought my head down slowly to see the white eyes of the defender across from me, my heart beat slowed and I was still, in peace for the short moment. The quarterback hiked the ball and I began in pursuit; shifting, juking to get away from my defender. We were side-by-side running down the field as the ball was thrown into the air, coming strait to me. I jumped up and became airborne, snagging it from the lit up, night sky. Falling back with the ball secured into my arms, I felt my defenders full weight push into my left leg. A snap rang out as we hit the ground together and I looked down to see a large bump sticking straight left out of my
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, do more and become more, you are a leader,” John Quincy Adams. This quote from John Quincy Adams has been one of my all-time favorites, ever since I attend a leadership conference around three years ago. Actions speak a thousand words, whether negative or positive. In my life, I have had a few inspirational and influential leaders. I was raised by a single mother of two in a lower-class neighborhood, therefore I grew up faster than the kids my own age for. As the oldest child, I had to make sure I was setting an example for my younger brother. I walked my brother to and from school, made sure his homework was complete, and had our room clean all before my mother arrived from work. Although, I was raised by a single parent if it weren’t for my mother I would not know the meaning of leadership. My mother has taught me how to be independent with a strong presents of leadership. While she is a leader in the workforce and at home. She is the best example of a leader, as she is the manager
Leadership can be shown through any person in any type of situation. In a classroom discussion, on the playing field, or in public a sign of a leader is evident. A person is born a leader. Certain humans know what to do when the time calls for it. Many people in positions can be entitled a leader such as basketball players. Even a famous movie star can be given this title. These people are not true leaders. True leaders are the belaboring teachers and the intellectual speakers. These are the people who show that leadership is an action, not a position.
The play was "Red 334"which is a run to our halfback, me, out of our dive series. I crouched over the ball as I jetted past the quarterback and ran the play so we could observe the changes we needed to make. I let out a sigh of relief because we were finished with the most dreaded part of practice; well, only until someone complained about not knowing their job on one of our pass plays. Coach Nelson undoubtedly decided we needed to run through the final pass play before we perfected our defense. The play was quietly called in the huddle with intentions of getting it right. I ran the play through my mind while I tried to remember what the snap count was and what I was supposed to do for that play. The ball was snapped and I jolted to the left of our team's quarterback to set up his backside protection. Out of my peripheral vision, I noticed the defensive end raging toward the quarterback. I intensely stepped into him while lowering my body and exploded through his shoulder pads sending him stumbling into the line's pass protection.
It had been the longest game of your life and this was the visitor’s final drive and your one shining moment. In the first five downs, you had been flattened trying to hold back the enemy line, leaving you out of breath, with a fractured rib and more bruises than you had gotten in eighth grade when you tried to slug Charlie Miller for insulting your mom. This play, however, was different. The ‘backer in front of you dodged to your right to clear a hole for the runner, but the fullback fumbled the hand-off. You spied the ball even as it left his hands. You leapt through the center to avoid the two halfbacks sent for protection, and as the line folded downfield, you scooped up the wildly bouncing ball and pumped every last ounce of energy into your legs. As you flew down the field, ignoring the pain in your knee (that knee finally gave out while skiing in the Rockies last year), it was more like the field passed around you. The gridiron rolled forward under your feet, the golden “Y” of the field goal looming large and larger. You heard no crowd shouting as you dived exhausted into the end zone. Your hearing returned on the final syllable of the announcer’s best Howard Cosell impression, “He could. . . go. . . all. . . the. . . way!” The score was now 34-30 and you had saved the final home game of the season. When the visitors wasted the final 30 seconds, the crowd rushed the field, and the fireworks were ignited, lighting up the sky, illuminating the surprised looks on your teammates’ faces as they pat you on the back and give you a sip of
Only with a strong character and competence will you develop trustworthiness. It is with these assets that others will view you as a person that they can trust and thus you will be viewed as a good, if not a great leader. The majority of the population these days, when surveyed will show that they value integrity as number one when looking for a good leader. Throughout the years these outlooks on this mater has changed and evolved as different technologies and social statues have also changed. "More and more people are seein...
With so many constant changes today with different generations, legal and political circumstances and ever-changing and improving technology sources, organizations have new and recurring issues arising every single day. The reasons for these issues vary widely and develop because of so many different situations. The outcome of the situation depends on many factors including the issue at hand, the management style and the ethics of the organization to simply name a few. These outcomes can certainly make or break an organization if not handled appropriately. The issue I have found to be the most significant is leadership. Within leadership, there is the opportunity for many issues in itself.
Our kicker went on to kick the extra point, as only one minute remained on the time clock. The Clark Cougars went on to beat the Williams Warriors. I could see it now on the front page of the town newspaper. "Clark demolishes Williams for the first time in 14 years!" We finally beat the best team in the world! As we celebrated, and jumped around on the soggy grass, a tear came to my eye. It was all hitting me now. I finally achieved the goal of my life! I could not control the tremendous smirk on my face. As I watched the coach from the opposing team cry in agony, I thought to myself, "That must be what they call the agony of defeat." I knew that the moment of my life I had long waited for, was gone. Only memories are left in my mind, and I cherish every single one of them.
This moment is one of my most memorable moments and it showed my competitiveness. This game was going to be the most important game of the season. We had a fairly easy time in districts and staged a comeback every game to roll through the tournament. Whoever won this game would go on to play in the championship game.
All of the players started playing having an excellent time, I so, remember the ball coming at me and the bully, I darted out in front of him catching the ball, INTERCEPTED! Thinking to myself feet do not fail me now, and I ran as swift fearless lightning. As I started going toward our end zone YES TOUCHDOWN! Although being in a huddle planning our next move, that is when, I noticed my best friend walking off the field, and he was crying.
Ethical leadership is having an understanding of who you are, what your core values are, having the courage to live them all, in your personal life as well as your work life. Ethical leadership involves leading in a manner that respects the rights and dignity of others. Ethical decision making and leadership are the basis of ethical organizations. Leadership is a relationship between leaders and followers. The foundation of this relationship is trust. The leaders themselves must be ethical in their decisions and actions in order to influence others to behave accordingly. Ethical leadership is to know one’s core values and having the courage to live them through one’s life. Ethics and leaders go hand in hand; ethics is the heart of leadership.
