Dance is a sport because it is the only sport that requires speed, flexibility and muscle. It also is the physical activity needed to be a dancer. When some people hear the word dance they think that dance is a hobby. Some people think that being able to do the splits and turns just happen overnight well it doesn’t happen overnight they have to practice harder than what you think. Dancers also have to train their bodies to do different kind of technique. Dance is the only sport that you have to use every single part of your muscle. For dancers to do three to four minutes intense you need the stamina of an Olympic runner. Dance is just as intense as any other sport and can dangerous at times. Waving to my teammates as I walked out of the tennis courts, the reminiscence of a smile appeared on my face after winning a close match. A freshman teammate joined me and I heard her take a deep breath as soon as we were out of others’ earshot, muttering something nervously. “I’m sorry, what was that?” I asked a little too loudly, the excitement still buzzing. She mustered courage and made sure to speak clearly this time: “I’m being bullied, and I feel so trapped that I only see self-harming as my way out.”
I can understand why people think that dancing is considered a sport. Yes, it requires physical activity, such as stretching, they go through 12 hours of dancing a day if they are professional dancers. Yes, in competitive dancing they may be competing for a trophy or an award, such as a competition. However, these things all contribute to why some people may consider dancing to be a sport, but dancers do not know what physical strength a football player needs to have or a soccer player. Dance competes in many different things. Whether it’s competing for a role in an audition, in a dance off or at an actual dance competition. In regular sports, players may compete against other teams, amongst each other for a spot on the team or anything really, they’re still fighting for something. Obviously they both are competitive, regardless. They have similar concepts which must mean dance is a sport! They are both competitive, but they also have similar concepts in competitions. “Another important argument to address when discussing whether dance is a sport or not is the fact that the winning team is determined by a panel of judges.” (Source) In many common sports, they have judges/officials in competitions, as do dance competitions. There is judges that determine or impact the outcome of the competition. They evaluate you based on skill and how well you do something. They are definitely similar, this means dance should be considered a sport. Although they have some common concepts and similar themes, some people could argue and say the purpose of dance is to compete, which doesn’t make it a sport. But dance isn’t all about showing off, impressing, winning or anything similar to that. It’s the love for what you’re doing, passion, the want. This is like most sports. It’s honestly love for what you’re doing, the dedication you have for it, not the awards or special acknowledgements, it’s that passion that makes them the two the same, therefore they should both be considered
Dance has many different meanings for each and every person. Some people believe that dance is a cultural ritual, others believe it is just a way of expressing our feelings. Society has made a new meaning of dance in my opinion. Dance should be an art, a way of expressing your thoughts through your body. Because society has different feelings on dance, there has been conflict about the subject.

I have been dancing since age 5; it is tougher than many believe. Learning dance is like learning another language! I know what you are thinking…dance is not a sport it is an art. Dance is a form of art that uses the body, space, time and energy to convey images of well thought out performances. There is no specific style or look for dance. Dance can simple be standing in one spot or running rapidly around in a wide space. There is no set of rules or regulations for dance. The dance that most interest me is fast rapid dance. My definition of rapid fast dance means jumping around and moving hips, arms, and legs to portray a wild yet calm performance. I like more chaotic dances with a lot of action because I feel like it is more eye boggling then something with little to no action. I enjoy dance performances with a lot of energy and movement along a stage. I don’t necessarily see the dance I like needing to be on stage, I can see my dance anywhere; like parties, on stage or in public. The training process under a guru helps an individual to improve and maintain discipline. Dance training cultivates a perfect systematization. Respecting others, the standing position, walking style, behaviour, talking culture, dressing sense, helping nature are all cultivated through classical dance.
