Leadership Identity
Research indicates that leadership styles have a huge impact on how the world is being shaped every day. To demonstrate a clear correlation between leaders and decisions making process, Lilienfeld, Waldman, Watts, Landfield, Rubenzer, & Faschingbauer, (2012), Van, Cilliers, & van Deventer (2008), and Odom, Boyd, & Williams, (2012) developed a sample category of leadership identities based on three different concepts. Beaver et al. (2014) illustrated a high level of leadership, interpersonal traits based on a study done on 42 U.S. president’s psychopathy traits. Van Eeden, et al. (2008) focused on management leaderships and Odom, et al. (2012) presented scholar leaderships. Each article presented respectively a key theme that will be developed in this paper. The first theme is leadership styles. The second theme is leadership psychopathic traits and the third theme is the personality traits of a leader. The three themes combine appeared to unify in one concept of leadership identity, which needs to be developed by effective leaders

The author suggested that personality traits grow with the leadership development skills. The leaders become more aware in this phase to develop individual self-esteem and focus on strengthening credible relationship with others. The leader will have to go through a complex step to determine psychopathic personality traits that will promote awareness and success. Leadership at times can be a complex topic to delve into and may appear to be a simple and graspable concept for a certain few. Leadership skills are not simply acquired through position, seniority, pay scale, or the amount of titles an individual holds but is a characteristic acquired or is an innate trait for the fortunate few who possess it. Leadership can be misconstrued with management; a manager “manages” the daily operations of a company’s work while a leader envisions, influences, and empowers the individuals around them.
Leadership is the ability that someone has to motivate, guide and empower a group of people, in the particular case the personnel of an organization, in order to achieve specific goals.
The leadership is a result of a combination of traits, with special emphasis on the personal qualities of the leader, which he should possess certain personality traits that would be special facilitators in leadership performance. This theory shows that leaders are born as such, there is no likelihood of 'making' them later with personal development techniques.

According to Business Dictionary.com, leadership is defined as the individuals who are the leaders in an organization, regarded collectively. It also can be define as the activity of leading a group of people or an organization or the ability to do this. Leadership involves the establishing of a clear vision, sharing the vision with other so that they will follow willingly, providing the needed information, knowledge, and methods to realize the vision and coordinating and balancing the conflicts interests of all members and stakeholders.

Leadership is the ability of an individual to influence, motivate and inspire others (Gill, 2006). It is therefore defined as a process whereby a leader influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal (Northouse, 2013). A leader has to make a decision for something to happen and provide his followers with clear direction (Rost et al, 1991). It will evoke feelings of challenge, excitement and involvement for the followers to proceed with the task (Gill, 2006).
I strongly believe the identity of an individual influences their leadership practice. Identity is rooted from the core of one’s beliefs, perspectives, and values, thus shaping actions, procedures, and protocols. In other words, “Identity integrates the meanings behind these skills and knowledge and informs the rationale for performing the role” (Scribner & Crow, 2012, p. 243). Self-identify sets in motion a series of actions that construct leadership practice, influencing decisions while guiding instruction. My perspective on identity stems from my personal life experience, shaping my ways of thinking and carving my career path. At the age of fourteen, my life changed dramatically, as my mother’s health began to deteriorate.
The general personality traits, which are related to success both in and outside the workplace, are all inherent in my answers given in the Leadership Assessment Quiz. With statements such as, “it is easy for me to compliment others” and “team members listen to me when I speak,” it is apparent I possess these characteristics. Whereas my task- related personality traits associated with successful leadership, such as courage, still need to be developed. Not only do I know this in myself, but it is clearly pointed out throughout the test, with statements such as, “resolving conflict is an activity I enjoy” and “I would enjoy coaching other members of the team”.
Leadership is the combination of traits, behaviors, attitudes, values, and beliefs. Personality plays a pertinent role in the type of leadership style an individual will portray. I received the personality trait of virtuoso (ISTP). According to my results, the virtuoso loves to explore and examine his or her environment and has difficulty keeping to one task at a time. Virtuoso’s, also, have a tendency to lend a helping hand and share their experiences in hopes that it will benefit others around them.

What is leadership? Leadership is defined as a process by which a individual will influence others to obtain goals. Leaders will guide, direct motivate, or inspire others. Leadership is defined by not only traits but actions as well. Leaders are inspirational, trustworthy and charismatic. Many people may think a manger is leader. Although leadership and management go hand in hand, they are not the same. Everyone has their own beliefs about what characteristics an effective leader should have. To me, communication skills, critical thinking skills, and having a vision are few characteristics of becoming an effective leader. A leader is not only born, but made. Some are born as leaders or some are made to be leaders.
