The information we gathered in our research, could prove to be quite useful to our community partner Jackie and the Asian-American Student Union (AASU). It seems that we have received mixed views on Asian American leadership and inclusivity on campus. There are many diverse things we can do with this research to help Asian Americans on campus feel more included and welcomed. Through our research, we determined that many students on campus were not even aware of the fact that we have an Asian American Student Union. We can take the information we learned through this process and use it to improve awareness around campus. Raising awareness has proved to be helpful in many other circumstances, where the general public is either misinformed or just unaware that a problem truly exists. When asked about inclusive leadership, many of the individuals interviewed, said that inclusive leadership should mean that everyone has a voice and that we all deserved to be heard. they need, to speak up on the current issues plaguing Asian Americans on campus. The awareness of the existence of AASU to other students on campus seems relatively low. One method to solve this issue, would be to help AASU spread the word to their fellow classmates about what it means to be Asian American and what sort of activities AASU participates in. AASU participates in many different activities on campus and it would be a good idea to let the students on campus know about them. They could do this by sending a mass email out to all the students asking them to come participate in some of their meetings or discussions. They could also post flyers around campus allowing the students know when AASU is planning to have their meetings. Something simple as just informing the students of meetings will help spread awareness of the Asian American culture on campus. Another way we could use the information to advocate for social change, would be to require other student organizations on campus to attend ethnic or diverse student organizations events. Kansas State could make it a requirement for all student organizations to attend at least one other ethnic student organizations meetings, to gain a better understanding of the other cultural groups on campus. This requirement could encourage other organizations to stay active on campus. If we could encourage these different groups to attend each other’s meetings it would hopefully lead to more discussions about each other’s culture and therefore increase general awareness of social issues. Getting more people involved in the conversation and encouraging others to speak up on the social issues surrounding Asian American students on campus is still one of the primary goals of this research.
An additional technique to get people involved in the conversation, would be to interview more students or even community members. A questionnaire could be sent out to all the students on campus to grasp a better understanding on how all the students feel about Asian Americans and inclusive leadership. The data collected from polling the majority of students on campus, could prove to be very useful to Jackie and the AASU. A questionnaire targeted towards the majority of the students on campus would at least bring attention to the current issues AASU are facing. We think that our research is just the beginning and that there are many other things that can be done to help raise awareness of Asian American culture and inclusive
leadership.

Affirmative action is needed to create diversity in America. Affirmative action allows people of different races and backgrounds to interact in the workplace and universities. During 1996, Neil Rudenstine, president of Harvard University, explained Harvard's commitment to diversity by using John Stuart Mill, who emphasized the value of people being in contact with people who are different from them (5). The Asian American community in the contemporary period face a lot of race relation issues which all interconnect within each other. Asian Americans face the basis of “Model Minority” that purportedly whitens Asians leading to the belief that there are no issues such as racism and poverty within the Asian American community. With that, they face the issue that there is no racial discrimination against Asian Americans due to the racial barrier being contextualized within a “black or white” framework. Another problem they face is mainstream America’s lack of awareness to the diversity of the Asian population, which causes a lot of misperceptions and misdirected racial hatred towards certain ethnicities within the Asian race. This causes the Pan-Asian community to not be supportive, unwilling to support each other, in order to avoid racism by avoiding being associated with that ethnicity just because they look alike. This causes the Asian American community and the ethnic groups within to be invisible to the American community as they lack organization and unification to have their voices heard.

I was enrolled in the Franklin Pierce School District for my entire public education career and at Pierce College during my last two years of high school.
