As I grew out of the the Veggie Tales phase, the idea of standing up for what I believed in became more relevant. Throughout primary school, I unquestioningly did what most girls did, and followed the status quo. However, upon entering middle school, I started to notice a stark juxtaposition between the behaviors of the boys and the girls in my class. Now, after years of observing overt stereotypes and prejudice, I have learned not only to question the patriarchy, but to stand up to it, as I believe that sexism is a crucial problem we face in today’s world.
This case involved a public high school student, Matthew Fraser who gave a speech nominating another student for a student elective office. The speech was given at an assembly during school as a part of a school-sponsored educational program in self-government. While giving the speech, Fraser referred to his candidate in what the school board called "elaborate, graphic, and explicit metaphor." After his speech, the assistant principal told Fraser that the school considered the speech a violation of the school's "disruptive-conduct rule." This prohibited conduct that interfered with the educational process, including obscene, profane language or gestures. After Fraser admitted he intentionally had used sexual innuendo in the speech, he was told that he would be suspended from school for three days, and his name would be removed from the list of the speakers at the graduation exercises.
This is actually how it felt when I would stay up until 12 am on school nights reading Captain Underpants or making it impossible to sleep by reading multiple volumes of Goosebumps. I used to completely pass my time reading little simple books like these and in return they would fill my mind with vast opportunities to allow my imagination to flourish and apply it in class. When I first picked up the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling it was comparable to when the first people proved that the world wasn’t flat, that’s how amazing it felt to be able to fully understand and talk about the books with my
For this assignment I choose to attend a Los Angeles Clippers game even though I am a big Lakers fan; mainly because it better fit into my budget and the appeal of watching this young high flying team made it seem like it was going to be a good night. Going into the game it was being dubbed as the “battle of the double-doubles” as the Minnesota Timberwolves led by Kevin Love and his 28 straight double doubles took on Blake Griffin and his 26 straight double doubles.
It took me a week to write the essay I used instead of the three months it
There was a complaint in 1992 about having The Nude Maja in a classroom. The complaint came from a feminist English professor who stated that the painting made her students, as well as herself, uncomfortable. Another incident occurred at the University of Arizona when a female student’s photographic artwork consisting of self portraits in her underwear was physically attacked by feminists. There was also an occurrence at University of Michigan when some of their law school feminists organized a conference “Prostitution: From Academia to Activism”. This group removed a feminist-curated art exhibition held in conjunction with the conference. They felt that videos showing prostitutes at work was pornographic and unacceptable(Faigley & Selzer, 539).
I stared at the blinking cursor, unbelieving at what I had just done. I was indeed done; done with a paper I agonized over for 6 hours. The paper was due in a scant 4 hours and I had all week to do it. The radio had stopped working because my brother got on the Internet and thus cut off my connection. That was the least of my problems working on this paper. I got it done, though. My life changed with one trip of a teacher to the chalkboard and one phrase, narrative essay. God, I hate narrative essays.
The bookworm or magazine reader, coffee in hand, provides entertainment through the quirky habits and mannerisms he practices throughout his sojourn at Barnes and Noble. The book-reading customer of the attached coffee shop sits at his table, sipping on a frozen coffee while reading a magazine or book that he does not intend to pay for. He uses Barnes and Noble as a library, walking in, selecting a book or a collection of magazines, and seating himself at one of the many reading areas; the adjacent Starbucks Coffee is the most popular loc...

When I started writing my entrance essay, I never thought that three weeks later I would begin writing my first
I almost fell off a cliff on the side of a mountain. I was in Pitkin, Colorado, on a camping trip during the summer of 2009. The trees were green, the air was fresh so were the lakes, rivers, and ponds were stocked with fish and wildlife was everywhere. Usually, on these camping trips, I would be accompanied by a large number of people. However, this time, it was just my parents, my three brothers, and my two sisters. I was almost 12 years old at the time and having three older brothers made me very competitive. Naturally, when my family decided to climb one of the mountain’s which were around us, I wanted to be the first one to reach its peak.
A mistake I made was spending too much time on research, and not enough time on piecing together the essay, but it was not something out of my reach. Since I have a strong command in persuasion, I did not have to spend an extensive amount of time when it came to concluding each paragraph with pathos. The toughest part of composing this essay was concentrating on theis. It was very easy to linger in the stories of the people who were influenced my my main character. So, as i got closer to the end of my paper, i realized that I was nearing m page limit, with content still left to explain. Once I finished the draft of the paper, I had to go back to revise and edit to make sure all my major points were included to prove my thesis stated in the first
All through high school I thought about what I would do for my senior trip. I knew I wanted to be with my closest friends: Katie, Grant, and Madison. I wanted to do something I have never done before. It just so happened that a cruise was something we all could experience for the first time. We asked a lot of our classmates to go, but it ended up being just us three, which was a good thing. Once it became official we counted down the days until we got to walk on Cozumel, Jamaica, and Cayman Islands’ beaches.
The elevation was not friendly to my brother and stole the majority of his oxygen. We hurriedly purchased the overpriced souvenirs and decided to head back down. Exiting the building, we caught a glimpse of the breathless view. My mother noticed that it was in alignment with the Pike’s Peak sign and decided that we should huddle together quickly for a photo. We had a stranger take the picture and we headed down the mountain.
Decided to go on an adventure of a lifetime. We walked about a mile to some rural area. I was extremely breathless considering the vast amount of heat and the lack of water in this over dry, drought-prone place. It was as though the sun was trying to punish me. I walked through the densest part of the forest and eventually came to a clearing of the sand.
