Recommended: My summer vacations
Our imperative family tradition was a summer vacation. Completely neglecting any responsibilities for a week, vacations were the perfect excuse. Fostering an environment for bonding, our annual vacations helped in creating lifelong memories. According to a Disney Time Survey conducted by Kelton, 82% of time on vacation is considered family time. This finding is evident, especially in one of my recent vacations. The months preceding and following this specific family trip, were filled with various milestones which prohibited much bonding: my mother’s diagnosis of Lung Cancer, my older sister’s wedding day, and my senior year preparation. If it wasn’t for our last hurrah, we may not have been able to successfully sit the needed amount of time
My sister and I, avid Twenty One Pilots fans, wanted to hit up one of their shows in Colorado. Partnered with a handful of other thoroughly enjoyable bands, Twenty One Pilots were guaranteed to put on the concert of the year. With no hesitation, we presented this idea to our mother and she backed us up. AFter much anticipation, it was decided, our 2014 summer vacation would take place in Colorado to enjoy mountains and exceptional music.
One would think the highlight of the trip was the concert, however, one could not be any more wrong. The highlight was literally the highest point in the trip. Inching our way up Pike’s Peak to an elevation of 14,115 miles (“About Pike’s Peak”) proved to be quite the adventure. I will never forget how a number of mundane occurrences created such a wonderful memory: my mother’s dislike of heights, my father’s horrible driving, the scenery, and the arrival to the
My father parked the car, we all bundled up, and then we climbed out of the car. There was a lovely gift shop next to the congratulator Pike’s Peak sign. My family and I separated as we searched for souvenirs. After finding a shirt, keychain, or pocket knife we started off on a scavenger hunt to piece together the family. My mother was located in the bathroom, she had an overactive bladder and this trip, thankfully, was not too long for her. My sister was examining the gemstones found in the nearby mines. It took a decent amount of time before we found my brother and my father. However, when we found them it made sense why it took so long. The elevation was not being friendly with my brother and stole the majority of his oxygen. We hurriedly purchased the overpriced souvenirs and decided to head back down. Exiting the building we caught glimpse of the breathless view. My mother noticed that it was in alignment with the Pike’s Peak sign and decided that we should huddle together quickly for a photo. We had a stranger take the picture and we headed down the mountain. After careful review, we decided that it was the best photo that we have ever taken together; I still hold pride in it.
Although the concert was magnificent and left me speechless, I cannot deny the importance that Pike’s Peak played in our family vacation. There was little to no dispute during the trip and lots and lots of laughter. Snowball fights
In early November, Zebulon and his crew spotted and tried to climb a mountain. A mountain that would later be known as Pike’s Peak. They made it at least two-thirds the way up the majestic mountain before having to turn back. It was a smart move because there was snow all the way up to about their waist and torso. In addition to the harsh weather conditions, Zebulon and his group have not had eaten for two days straight. Those were the main reasons that forced to crew to turn
On Monday March 25, some members of the baseball team, my girlfriend, and I traveled to Murray State University to watch a concert performed by Nelly and the St. Lunatics. It was a terrible night to go anywhere because it was raining and storming the whole way, but there was nothing that was going to stop us from going to the concert. We where all so hyped up about it and couldn’t wait to head out. My brother, who attends Murray State, had gotten us excellent seats about seventy-five feet away from the stage.

The unit of a family is the most prominent essential for all of us. As social human beings, we seek social support in order to thrive, and that is where family comes into play. A family is where you receive love, support, encouragement, and many other social benefits. The total number of households in the United States increased from 63 million in 1970 to 113 million in 2008 (Weeks, 2012). The family has influenced multitudes of people in many ways. The traditional family in the United States consists two-married individuals providing care and stability for their biological offspring also know as the nuclear family. However, the term of a true family has ultimately changed over the last 50 years especially for African Americans.
It is extremely exciting that you want to come to the United States; it truly is a great place to live. However, there are a couple of subjects that you and I need to discuss, so you are not completely lost when you arrive. So the things that I will discuss and better help you understand are the family cultures in the United States, what community means and the effect it has on others around, how technology affects everyday living here, the social media, educational system and the environment, and finally the relation between self and others.
During his youth in the summer, it was customary for Merit Myer and his parents to visit family members that lived out of state. The reunions themselves were things Merit did not care for, but everything else was, all in all, fun. The car trips were filled with cool conditioning, rest stop food, and sleeping with oldie music playing was pleasant enough. He would consider it a big bonus if said reunions took place near an amusement park and had cozy living arrangements. He was generally quiet and was not adept at being social with people that were strangers to him. Family to him was his to his mom and dad, aunts, uncles, and cousins that lived nearby and/or saw on a yearly basis. It was hard for him connecting to the larger family of distant family members he hardly sees or talks to in less than a week. It didn't help that he was socially awkward and had interests most of his family didn't share. He would often feel out of place and just wanted to have fun and relax. On one stop during a family road trip at the age of 12,
What is family? Each person defines family according to what family means to him/her. The concept of family means various things to different people, yet the meaning of the word can bring different emotions to the person who hears it. But no one is born into this life alone. Everyone has known the bond of family, at least at birth, and for many it is a bond that can last life long time.
What is a family? When people hear the word family, they automatically think, mother, father, children, aunts, uncles and grandparents, but the true meaning of Family in the dictionary is: a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household or descendants of a common ancestor. It’s one of the most important social group that one can belong to because people learn their value and the meaning of life. Family is the ones that teach each other about life and how and what to expect when starting a family of their own. They care and tend to one another’s needs creating a bond that is of trust that should be cherished. They are the ones that get together at the dinner table during the holidays, birthday celebration or life achievements
One of the most enjoyable things in life are road trips, particularly to the Colorado mountains. Getting to spend time with your family and friends, while being in a beautiful place, is irreplaceable. The fifteen-hour road trip may feel never-ending, but gazing at the mountains from afar makes life’s problems seem a little smaller and causes worries to become a thing of the past. Coming in contact with nature, untouched, is a surreal experience. My family trip to the Colorado mountains last summer was inspiring.
Everyone seems to define family differently, however, the significance of family is the same. For you, family means everything. You can always count on your parents and siblings for help and love. Family is very valuable and important to you and should never be taken for granted. No one can deny that family is the foundation of our generation. A family is where we all start our life journey and helps us grow to be successful throughout our lives.
Interacting with others, in the context of a social institution, is a common phenomenon that takes place every day. Through this socialization, members within society interact and learn about what is expected of them. These social expectations are most commonly communicated through socialization agents, such as the family, media, peers, and religion. To start, the family is one of the social institutions that each individual is born into. By interacting with parents, and maybe even brother and sisters, a baby begins to understand what behavior is and is not normal and expectable. Through the influence of family members and the individual 's interaction with others in society, the individual begins to form his/her own views and beliefs. This view of the family is known as the functionalist theory. When considering whether different age groups agree that it is best for a family if the man is the money maker and the woman takes care of the home and family, it is crucial
There is an event that I just can describe as one of the most unique and memorable in my life: attending my first concert. After years of listening to Ron Pope’s music, watching his YouTube channel, and following all of his social media accounts, the satisfaction of seeing someone whose music has been the soundtrack to my life for so long was unreal. There were moments that I had to internally remind myself that this is, in fact, happening in real life. Being a dedicated (some may say eccentrically so) fan is tough work – and I was rewarded with two hours of pure magic for one night. Attending my first concert was a unique event that I will always remember fondly because of the atmosphere, the amazing performance and the sense of connection
My family is interesting when you look at it. Since my parents are immigrants some aspects of our culture are missing in America. Here we live just like any other nuclear family. It is my parents, myself, and my siblings. However, I am confident that if my family resided in Pakistan, rather than the United States, we would be living in an extended family household. One of my uncles that live in Pakistan stays with my grandparents and another, who used to live in Pakistan, did the same before he moved here. This is same with my mother’s side. My uncle who lives there also lives with his mother and father and I cannot imagine why my father would follow suit. I guess you could say that my father and mother are living neolocally; but in reality
There are so many different types of family relationships. Whatever form a family takes; it is an important part of everyone’s life. My family has played an important role in my life. Good family relationships serve as a foundation to interactions with others. Supportive families will help children to thrive. The quality of the family relationship is more important than the size of the family. Making the relationships priority, communication, and providing support for one another is key to developing relationships. Family relationships are what make up our world today; they shape the ways that we see things and the ways that we do things.
"The great gift of family life is to be intimately acquainted with people you might never even introduce yourself to, had life not done it for you." -Kendall Hailey. Many people among us think that a family reunion is boring. It is an unpleasant social affair where our parents drive us to go and stay there for a considerable length of time. There are odd individuals who come to us and kiss or embrace us while we are still considering "do I know him/her?”. It is because we believe that enjoying the holiday out with friends is much better than investing hours with the people, we “unfortunately” belong to. They have no other subject for discussion aside from our studies and grades. On the other hand, family gathering is always a new experience for someone who lives far away from his blood relations.
