Track and field- athletic events that take place indoors or outdoors on a running track and a nearby field; it includes track events and field events. Did you know that over two hundred countries participate in noteable track competitions like the Olympics or other world championships? Track is a sport where participants compete in races and field events with a team. Team members can engage in a variety of different events including the mile run, 800 meter, 400 meter, 200 meter dash, 100 meter dash, hurdle races, etc. Field events include shot put, discus, long jump, and high jump. Even though it is pretty hard to ignore a sport when your friends at school wear the uniforms on meet days and the results are included in the morning announcements, it still doesn’t seem to get as much interest as football. Track has much more events but more people attend football games and route for their classmates. Track and field deserves to get more respect and more attention. It is a serious yet fun sport that anyone would love to watch. Track meets in the past were fun, filled with cheering parents, and a lot of competition. Asafa Powell, a Jamaican sprinter said, “I know I have what it takes to go out there and put in on the track and a lot of guys will eat my dust.” When watching a game, someone could get as much competitive excitement as he/she would when watching any other sport. There are so many different things to watch during track and field games. As I specified earlier, there are both field and running events to watch. Also, our school track team has a lot of sportsmanship and we love the extra encouragement. If more people pay more attention to the team and the meets, the our results would improve and we would feel more encouraged to represent our school to the opposing teams and coaches.
