I. Introduction A. Attention Getter: To me life with out horses is a life not worth living. To most people there are only two types of styles of riding, English and western, but there are many more types than that. And all are different. B. Demonstrate Relevance: Sense the summer Olympics are around the corner I thought I would talk about the sport that goes unrecognized so that maybe all of you might give it a chance. C. Establish Credibility: I have been riding sense I was about ten years old. During which I learned a thing or too about horses and all of the different types are riding styles out there. D. Central Idea Statement: Today I will be talking to you about two specific riding styles. One that is called saddleseat and the other Hunt seat. Both are completely different and fun in their own way. II. Body …show more content…
Body A. First, I will begin talking about jumping/hunt seat. 1. Stated by the United States Equestrian Federation, it says that Hunter Seat Equitation is a division that is judged on the ability and the style of the rider. a. When people think of riding english this is the saddle that they associate it with. It is meant to fit the bodies natural position in the saddle. b. Jumping is only one part of Olympic riding. There is arena jumping, cross country jumping, and dressage which has no jumping at all. It is based more on
elegance. 2. There are two types of hunter riding, jumping and the flat. a. The rider must execute a smooth and consistent jumping course using invisible aids, and trying to make the course look completely effortless. The size of the jumps varies depending on the level of the class. b. Each horse and rider jumps a course of 10 to 16 obstacles, with heights up to 1.6 meters (5 feet 3 inches) and spreads of up to 2.0 meters (6 ft 7 in). c. On the flat, each rider is tested at the walk, trot and canter at the lower levels. In more advanced classes the rider must execute a strong or collected walk, trot, and canter, or counter canter and hand gallop. Which are just different types of the horses’ gates. B. Next I will talk about a discipline known as saddleseat. 1. Stated on the National Show Horse Registry, Saddleseat developed from plantation owners needing a saddle and a way of riding that was suited to the type of horses they were breeding. These horses were used to survey and inspect their plantations. These owners wanted horses with comfortable gaits, speed, stamina, beauty and style. Which is exactly what saddleseat offered them. 2. Saddleseat is completely different from hunter jumper. The saddle is longer, thinner, and takes more balance and muscle to stay in place. It is very east to distinguish between the two types. The rider also sits up higher and their hands come up higher as well. 3. Unlike hunter jumping which is in the Olympics, saddleseat is not as popular, but the competition goes all the way to the world cup which can be very competitive. III. Conclusion A. Conclusion signal: In conclusion, although both riding styles are very different and unique they each offer their own challenges. B. Summary: Many people don’t think about all the different types of horse back riding styles that are out there. Saddleseat and hunter jumper are only two of them. While saddleseat is in the world cup, hunter jumper is in the Olympics and still not too many people know about it. C. Adequate closure: In many places people don’t consider horse back riding to be a sport even though it is in the Olympics and there is a saddleseat world cup. It takes hard work and dedication to ride a horse. I believe everyone can take this knowledge of both hunt seat and saddleseat and support the horse back riding world so it can be given the recognition it deserves.
Once you get them to settle down and get there mind focused on just walking and the rider then you know the bond with the rider and horse are strong. When it is time for the second run of the night you want to warm them up again but not as hard this time because he or she has already been warmed up once before this, so just a little warming up won’t hurt. When it is that time for the second run the rider will bring the horse him a set him or her up for their first barrel and make the most of the race. If you see the rider smiling then everyone knows she has done her job with this horse. The rider can make an automatic barrel horse where that horse know his job and she barely has to ask the horse for a turn or touch his face to go around that barrel. When the rider gets a horse to be like that everyone can tell they spent hours and days together. The rider worked with that horse but never made him sour or hate coming into the arena. They spent time working on flexing the horse and making sure he knew when to tuck his nose and leave it for an extra second. They will all see when they are running home how much they spend time they spend together if they are fast and smooth through the pattern and don’t have any blow ups before or after coming in and out of the arena. After the race is over and the announcer say who
A farrier must be skilled in ironwork, be able to evaluate a horses hoof balance, gait, and conformation. For those of you that don’t know much about horses, a gait is just a fancy way to talk about how they move, and conformation is, by definition, the degree of correctne...
One way I do this is due to the fact that horses aren’t cheap. Not only is there an expensive upfront cost, but there’s also the all year round expenses like feed bills, expensive hay prices, vet bills, the farrier bill, and the pricy tack (which is all the equipment needed to ride and own horses). Owning and showing horses is one of the most costly activities a person can get into. The majority of my paycheck goes to my horse and into my gas tank to take him places. Kron states that “besides control we use things to compete,”(130). Another way that Boomer’s a sign of my status is through competing with him. To compete, I take him to barrel races and game shows to see who can do the patterns the fastest. At barrel races and game shows we try to get the fastest time to win money and or ribbons. We don’t usually come in first, but all I care about is doing our best and improving our times. This establish a sign of my status because it not only helps me raise it in the horse world, but I also gain more respect because I’m more worried about doing my best and keeping my horse healthy versus just caring about the the money and buying the horses that’ll get me that even if I had to discard horses to get there. Meaning if a horse isn’t good enough or fast enough I wouldn’t sell them unlike some people do. This is a common practice in the horse racing

Since 776 BCE, the Olympics have been a way for people of different cultures to come together and compete in friendly competition. In 1892 the first modern Olympics were held in Athens, although it had been over a thousand years since the last game it still had brought together an assortment of different religions and ethnic groups together. Many factors shaping the Olympic Games reflect the changes that have taken place in our world since the last game in 393 CE in Greece such changes include woman’s suffrage, global economy, world wars, and proving competency.
Having studied the calf, the run put together in my head several times, I am ready to rodeo. Jake is anxiously waiting and ready to be saddled. Mounting up, I pat Jake gently on the neck and we make several trips through the parking lot to get warmed up.

Establish Credibility: Six years ago I became more interested in horse racing and what it took to become a jockey. I went to numerous clinics with my Thoroughbred, Clint Eastwood, and dreamed to race with him someday, until I was in a horseback riding accident that injured my left leg as well as crushed those dreams.
This sport has to do with geography because it is a very small section in one of the two main branches of geography. The two main branches of geography are human and physical, this would be under human. Under the human branch would be many smaller branches that go into even smaller branches. This sport would be under the culture branch of the human branch because, it is part of the Olympics, and the Olympics is a cultural event where many of the world’s countries come together and they participate in multiple events/sports with each other.
Riding encourages a child to work with their hands, exercise, and connect with horses and people of all ages, gain confidence, and learn new skills. Courtnee Niggel, an instructor summarizes how “A six year old child was told she will never walk again but after years of equine therapy she is now able to walk with a walker or by holding on to the sides of walls” (Niggel 1). Equine Therapy leaves a child with amazing results and changes their life drastically all the way from growing social skills to helping with motor skills, even to

Very few men in that period had enough time to learn and ride horses. All
Some people think of them as animals. Some people think of them as objects. Some people think of them as friends. Then there are the few who think of them as family. Horses have always been like family to humans, except sometimes closer. There are many benefits to owning or being around horses. They come in many different colors. There is a multitude of breeds, also. Additionally, they have a long history with humans. Horses have unique behaviors. Showing horses has been the past-time or even career of many people. Furthermore, caring for horses can be a handful, but is definitely rewarding. Finally, riding horses is not just a hobby or a sport, but an action of your heart. Horses are wondrous creatures that have lived with man or thousands of years.
