Inquiry is asking a question to determine more information and indulge in curiosity. Most associate inquiry with learning and research in a classroom or a workplace setting; however, the importance of inquiry goes far beyond education and information, as it relates to emotional capacity as well as morality. In my life so far, inquiry has evolved in its form and changed the way I think and have thought about the world. As far as where I am now, being a freshman in college, taking First Year Seminar has done nothing but benefit my want to learn. Specific ways in which I have used inquiry in my life involve working toward goals that I set (in terms of my discipline or future career), improving and maintaining relationships that affect my life …show more content…
I love understanding the reasons why people act the way they act or think the thoughts they think, and, unfortunately, I do not see myself turning this into a career, but I do see it as a valuable interest. Analyzation has always been a forte of mine. After reading “A More Beautiful Question” by Warren Berger, the class was asked to reflect on which question mentioned in the article was our favorite. I chose the question “Why do the work we do? What if we could take it to a different place and another level?” The way that this question inspires thought strongly relates to my passion for analyzation and could possibly correlate with a future career by expanding on itself. I love the idea of observing the way something works and improving it or even dissecting the strategies used and improving upon those as well. For example, whenever I am in line at a food place or a cafe, like Starbucks, and the service is slow because the establishment is busy, I cannot help but observe the happenings and analyze how they could …show more content…
Both personal and professional relationships contribute to success and happiness, thus maintaining them is crucial. Inquiry can be used in this sense to show others support and care for them in ways that make them feel special and loved. Sometimes just simply asking about someone’s day creates a special connection. Subsequently, inquiry plays a large role in learning after education. Lastly, understanding my passions will always be something that I have to be critical of. Coming into college, I wanted to join as many clubs and student organizations as possible; however, after attending the activities fair, I knew that it would be quite impossible for me to achieve that goal. Consequently, I had to narrow down my interests and combine them, too. For example, I chose A Cappella and working with the Music Production team of WQAQ over working with the Student Programming Board or QU After Dark. To counteract not joining a dance team, I regularly attend university-run Zumba classes, and I absolutely enjoy it. Choosing what to do in college is a form of inquiry that will carry over into my future endeavors. Overall, inquiry will always find a way to be a part of life in all of its aspects as I grow into an
It can be a tedious task for a person to find another who share the same interests. That is why it is important to understand and respect other’s interests. Even if a certain topic doesn’t intrigue you, it may be a large part of someone else’s life. Having a broad knowledge on many different topics allows you to expand your connections with others and have intelligent conversations, increase your knowledge and theirs. In liberal art colleges, this is the message they try to embed in their students. It’s perfectly acceptable to have you passion, but it’s also important to be well
In the play Doubt, by John Patrick Shanly, Sister Aloysius is treating Father Flynn unfairly. Sister Aloysius is the principal of St. Nichols School, who is suspicious and always doubt everyone, especially Father Flynn. She thinks that Father Flynn is guilty, but has no proof. Sister Aloysius doesn’t like Father Flynn in the school and his ideas. She treats him unfairly. Sister Aloysius treats Father Flynn unfairly when she still accuses Father Flynn of giving the altar wine to Donald Muller after Father Flynn tells her the truth. She treats him unfairly by forcing him to request the transfer without proving if Father Flynn is guilty or not and also makes him resign by lying about his past.
What are the steps to due process? What significance are the court cases Goss v. Lopez and Dixon v. Alabama in maintaining a well-ordered school?
... to think deeper and seek answers that can achieve higher understanding of the world around us. Though, as, one will find stated in many books and readings of philosophy, “be aware that seeking deeper understanding and delving into the depths of more awareness, one may bring forth more questions than answers “.
Ever met someone who raises poultry and goats for show? Or someone who aspires to turn social media use into a career? Read on, and now you have! Though, as a college student, academics are my first priority, but that does not stop me from being involved and pursuing my passions outside of the classroom! Not only am I involved in extracurricular activities, but community service and other projects as well when I am not in class.
Throughout the beginning of this semester I have looked at how individuals behave within business organizations. Through various exercises and results, I have found a number of patterns within my behavior and interests. I have become aware what interests me, and a number of skills/abilities I was oblivious I had. This reflection and in class exercises has allowed me to expand my skills, abilities, and behaviors, well fitting them into prospective future employment.
Individuals can benefit from having multiple literacies. Literacy in area outside of academia can be repurposed and used in academic settings too. The same is true for academic literacies; academic expertise can prove beneficial in other areas. In order to repurpose literacy, one would apply knowledge by reconstructing past literacies and reapplying it in order to enhance present literacies. One educator, Kevin Roozen, described repurposing literacy as blending together of extracurricular elements and of elements from other literate experiences (Roozen 18). Mary Maragrget Holt, dean of the Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts at the University of Oklahoma, is a prime illustration of this very idea.
There comes a time in person’s life when their must make decisions that will further go on to impact their life vastly. For many, that decision is whether to further their education or not. For those who do decide to further their education, they must choose which type of schooling is best, college or vocational schooling. Vocational schooling may appeal to those who are looking for an alternative and less expensive form of education. College, the more standard form of education, gives students the ability to have more flexibility since a variety of careers can be open to them from the major they choose. Both forms of education have its advantages and disadvantages, while benefiting the future of the student in the long run.
Throughout my time in university, I was involved in a lot of extracurricular activities. I wanted to implement my knowledge that I got in university (Project management, organizational behavior, leadership and motivation etc.). From the very beginning I founded my own organization that calls Youth Assembly of Nations. My goal was to unite people of different nationalities and lead them to promote friendship among different nations (more than 150 nationalities live in Kazakhstan). As a result 40 delegates of different nationalities were chosen. Every month we were organizing events such as music festivals, fairs, charity events and promoting our vision of collaboration.
Mandatory school uniforms are debatable on whether they are preferred or not. Some would say to agree with uniforms, while others would disagree of them. The dispute is arguable, and both sides have well reasoning. Personally, I say that all schools should have mandatory uniforms.
While I am on the subject of observing classrooms, another area of my philosophy that I now view with a sophisticated, intelligent insight is extra-curricular activities.
Sociology is important because of many reasons, especially in the context of race and ethnicity. Sociology is very important to me, because it shapes and explains the way everyone thinks. There are many studies in sociology and the topic I chose was race and ethnicity. This topic relates to the experiences I had during my life. Some of the experiences that I faced were because of the color of my skin, culture, religion, and also language.
Through the use of Extrinsic Proofs, I can include myself as a Proximate Authority. Through this authority, I will know about the Common Core based off of being present while it was administered to schools. The Common Core was started in 2009. This method was a way that educators could make sure students around the country are learning the same. This meant that a student in California will learn the same things that a student in New York would. The fact that 20.2 million people are attending college as of 2015, means that when the speech is delivered in 5 years t hat number should be hitting the 50 million range. The Common Core sets standards that are good enough to get a student through their first year of a college credit English course. Being part of the product of the Common Core makes me a
Reflecting on some of the extra-curricular activities I have engaged in these past two years
Inquiry is an interactive way of learning. Students are actively engaged in their studies. Inquiry involves student-centered activities focusing on questioning, exploring, and posing explanations. The goal of inquiry is to introduce a new way of learning where students can learn about the world around them through active engagement in real-life examples. Inquiry based learning can be incorporated into all academic subjects throughout the curriculum. Science could possibly be the most effective subject to incorporate inquiry.
