One job the requires algebra is an Animator. Animators have to draw all kinds of pictures and cartoons and it requires them to use linear algebra for every movement a character or object may make. Algebra also helps create special effects to make the images shine and sparkle. The requirements you must have to do this type of job is that of course you have to have talent, some type of degree in animation, and be pretty decent in math. Animators make around $47,000 a year. Another job that requires algebra would be an accountant. Accountants have to use algebraic equations and lots of graphs. The math is used to make sure things balance and that everything is correct. Using algebra when accounting is very important because it tells you or the person you're helping, know how much they can spend. Requirements are is that you must have a degree in accounting, must have all credits and good grades (pretty much just pass), you must pass the CPA and ethics exam, and have your license. Accountants make around $60,000 a year. A geologist is another job that algebra is required in. They us...
Algebra is one of the major parts in exams like GRE and ACT so that all college students and high school students need to learn. In order to get a good grade, students are willing to spend hours and hours studying hard on things like matrices and equations. When they are wondering why they have to learn things so difficult and if this knowledge would be useful in the future time. Andrew Hacker, the author of "Is Algebra Necessary?", thinks not. In his editorial, he argues that students, especially those who are not majoring in math, should not be forced to learn high-level math. His arguments are very effective because he successfully uses logos, pathos and ethos in his editorial. The usage of the rhetorical triangle made his editorial logical,
Mathematics is used to pay bills and to cook to give a few examples. It is also used to figure out different formulas for space. Mathematics is used for computing
Should there be such thing as partial credit on a math test? I believe that students should be able to get partial credit on math test because the teachers make mistakes sometimes to during a lesson. So why should students not be able to make a simple mistake on a test? Now the student should not get credit for showing their work and getting nothing right but if the student messes up one part of the equation and if he/she would have gotten that one part right they would have gotten the question rights that is when the teacher should give some partial credit. So if the student shows his/her work but does not do anything right they should not get any partial credit. If the student gets the problem wrong but has the equation set up right he/she just made a little calculation error they should get ¾ of a point. If the student gets the answer wrong and only messes up 1 or 2 things ( depending on how much work it takes for the problem) but would
Math is everywhere when most people first think of math or the word “Algebra,” they don’t get too excited. Many people say “Math sucks” or , “When are we ever going to use it in our lives.” The fact is math will be used in our lives quite frequently. For example, if we go watch a softball game all it is, is one giant math problem. Softball math can be used in many
Is it necessary to have a college degree before having the opportunity to experience the dream career of your choice? Depending on what background you came from, there are different reasons why we go to college. Most of us go due to career change/job position, increase our intellect/knowledge, not to be stigmatized, playing as a role model either to our children or even someone that we care of. In his essay, “A College Education: What Is Its Purpose?” Andrew DelBanco mentioned the three reasons college still matters which are: Economic (A college degree has replaced the high school diploma as “the minimum requirement into the skilled labor market.”), Opportunity (Our democratic form of government requires an educated
My first opportunity to use math outside the academic world was in my part time job with United parcel Service. It was an eye-opener for me in that mathematical techniques, in combination with computers, could be used for solving very complicated real-life problems, such as predicting and controlling the continuos flow of 300 million packages per day. I was deeply impressed by the numerical masterpieces of Jim Gilkinson and Dick Marga, the project managers. They led the way in showing how one could overcome some serious limitations of computers for solving linear systems of equations.
So, college algebra sucks. And I know this to be true because it has been the only class I have almost failed. I was a senior in high school when I had the horrific thought, “I think I’m going to take college algebra.” Worst idea ever. I spent the last semester of my senior year in doubt of my ability to pass the class. Thankfully, I was able to escape, what I thought was the inevitable demise of my college GPA. It was not easy, but I won the final battle to secure my title as king of college algebra. With this being said, I will show you how to almost fail college algebra.
Common Core is a controversial issue concerning many different kinds of people. Teachers are concerned because they feel like the new standards implemented restrict their abilities to create a lesson that fits their specific student’s needs. Students are concerned because of the increased amount of testing associated with Common Core. Parents are concerned because they have no say in what their children learn. Lastly, the government is concerned because of the state our country is in education wise and how far behind we are falling.
(pre algebra and algebra 1 respectively) which led to me losing my financial aid for college. I'm at a loss of what to do, as I'm wanting to get my art degree, but that requires me to pass a college level algebra class, which I'd been trying to work up to with the other math classes.

Mathematics the language of understanding the natural world (Tony Chan, 2009) and is useful to understand the world around us. The Oxford Dictionary defines mathematics as ‘the science of space, number, quantity, and arrangement, whose methods, involve logical reasoning and use of symbolic notation, and which includes geometry, arithmetic, algebra, and analysis of mathematical operations or calculations (Soanes et al, Concise Oxford Dictionary,

Devlin believes that mathematics has four faces 1) Mathematics is a way to improve thinking as problem solving. 2) Mathematics is a way of knowing. 3) Mathematics is a way to improve creative medium. 4) Mathematics is applications. (Mann, 2005). Because mathematics has very important role in our life, teaching math in basic education is as important as any other subjects. Students should study math to help them how to solve problems and meet the practical needs such as collect, count, and process the data. Mathematics, moreover, is required students to be capable of following and understanding the future. It also helps students to be able to think creativity, logically, and critically (Happy & Listyani, 2011,
