Imagine for a moment that you are sitting in a court room in a custody battle. The judge has ruled for the child to go with their mother, but you can tell by the look on the child’s face that this is the worst thing that could happen. I desire to be that person for the child and to have their best interest in mind. Every child deserves some structure in their life and to be with people whom love them. Sometimes the best thing which can be the hardest is for them to be separated from their parents. Why do you want to be a social worker seems like an easy answer, because I want to help people, but there is so much more that goes into that answer that is extremely difficult to put into a few pages. I want to be a social worker because …show more content…
Personally, I’ve never had any contact with a social worker gratefully, but they do not have a great reputation. Social workers are not known for coming into people lives when everything is going well. Professions that help people have always caught my interests. It wasn’t until college however, when I gained a full knowledge of what social workers did. I have a passion for helping kids and wanting to do more for them. Volunteering has been a big part of my life and is where, my passion grew to become a juvenile attorney. Throughout school that is what my mind was set on. The knowledge I gained at the youth shelter made my passion for helping kids grow even more but changed my direction. Hearing the kids talk about their lives helped my passion grow even …show more content…
The first quality would have to be my passion for this profession. Doing things halfway has never been something that I have done and I don’t intend to start now. The second would be my time management skills. I have taken several time management workshops. The skills that I have learned in those workshops have stuck with me and still use today. Several people know from the start what they want to do while others like me take a few detours along the way to truly figure out what they want. I hope you give me the chance to make my career goals come
My own personal life is what attracted me to the child welfare and/or child and protective services field. I was in foster care growing up and was not officially adopted until around the age of seven. This gave me the chance to see what it feels like on the other side of the social work role. I had a social worker who was great, however, she missed many signs of things that were going on. We would tell her things, however, she would not believe what was going on. I was forced to stay in abusive situation hoping that someone would help us, however, it never have happened. I want to go into this field because I would like to be the one there for the children, helping, understanding, and guidi...

There are many reasons why I decided that I wanted to work in the social work profession. When I first enrolled in college, I was a nursing major with the mindset of becoming a neonatal nurse. When that did not go as planned, I decided to become a social work major because I knew I would receive the same reward of helping someone out and providing an individual with a better opportunity by lending him or her a hand. This was my first reason for choosing this career because I saw so many benefits from this profession. My second reason for was due to the fact that I want to help people during their time of need. There were times in my life where I needed guidance and it felt great to have someone there being compassionate and caring towards me.
Kris became a social worker because she has a passion and needs to help people. Her passion comes from years of abuse and neglect when she was younger. She stated, “It feels right to be a social worker. Although there is no thank you cards and the work may be meticulous at times, seeing smiles is a great reward”. I have learned most social workers enter this career due to personal experiences and they were to help make a change. I am one of them. Although I know I cannot change the world, I know I can make a difference in the lives I touch. I too will find the smiles of my clients
Since the last fifteen years of my life, I have been interested in social work involving families with children. I have always had an interest in helping, supporting and working with children and adults. These practical experiences social work will continue to lead me to learned, applied, and prepared to become a social worker. I will continue to work with developmental disabilities and other diverse groups of the population.
I want to become a social worker to help connect people to available resources when they may be in a place of injustice or despair and offer them the guidance they may need to make important decisions that can be life changing. Also, I am interested in being a social worker because the work can be extremely rewarding. I do understand, some days will be extremely difficult, but I also understand that when you can go home at the end of the day, knowing you’ve done your best to help someone, that is a rewarding feeling and I will know that I chosen the right career path. I also believe strongly that people are inherently good and capable of doing good. All together, through different day to day experiences and my drive to do good and help facilitate change are just some of the reasons I am applying to a professional degree of social
There are many reasons why I would love to become a social worker. However, it is sort of difficult to pinch point how or why I became attracted to this specific profession. Nevertheless, most of the particles in my body argue that it would have to stem back to experiences I have encountered growing up. I would like to begin by saying that graduating high school I was unsure where I was going or where I would end up. My mother who always had high expectations for me persuaded me to at least attempt pursing a college education. I then decided to enroll Guttman Community College @ CUNY, where I was appointed a Student Success Advocate (S.S.A). My S.S.A saw something in me that I had yet to figure out. He pushed me to want more for myself both in my academic and personal life. Every time I was ready to give up he was there to remind me that I was capable of succeeding.
My interest in social work stems from a love of volunteering that I possessed ever since I was a young child expressing great enthusiasm for church and school service events. As I grew older, I began volunteering for many other community events, such as serving over 200 hours at a local hospital, helping with free cancer screenings, and fitting children with free bike helmets. I even created my own donation drive for a local women’s and children’s shelter. I feel the best when I am striving to create positive changes in my community and for struggling, marginalized individuals. Social services have been a part of my life for a very long time, and I want it to continue to be on a professional level.
My reasoning behind deciding to pursue a career in social work stems from my seemingly innate desire to see others succeed in fulfilling their potential. Although it feels somewhat of a cliché, my passion and desire for the field of social work originates from a genuine wish to make a positive difference in people’s lives.
My interest consist of realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising, and conventional. My strongest are investigative, artistic, social, and enterprising. I would like to start my own business or start below someone and eventually earn taking over the company. The type of careers that appeared were mainly social workers or a teacher. Personally, I never considered being a social worker because I do not really have an interest in working with the law. I am surprised about the low rating for realistic because I rather do hands-on and face to face situations rather than just sitting behind a desk. I have been satisfied with this quiz because it gave me a single career then branched out into different ways I could enjoy that career.
One main quality includes having leadership. Being a leader means I am focused yet humble while doing the job. Since I was a little girl I have been playing soccer. Soccer is where I learned how to be a good leader, being a good teammate, and being focused to get the ball from one end of the field to the other into the goal. Another example of being focused is last fall I had my son while still going to school. I had to be focused in what I was doing and to stay in my classes. I have two younger siblings and fourteen other cousins although many of them are much older I always seem to take the role as leader. In class this quality has helped when
After doing some research my interest seems to lead me to my first career choice to become a social worker. I believe in my heart I would be good at this position because I love to help families work through difficult time and to help them better themselves. I would observe the chase and carry out steps that needs to be done to help the individual with the situation. I would use excel, access and word to document patient problems, special information, and their progress they are making. The jobs in this field is work at a hospital, school, hospice center, private homes, food stamp office and courts. I would enjoy working in any of these places.
Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Never, never, be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.” Social workers should never be afraid to help someone in need. A career as a Social worker can be an educational and a life-changing career as they help change people’s lives for the better.
My thoughts on social work and workers use to be a thought that they only helped those who were poor or in trouble of hurting themselves or others. I used to think that I would never have to get involved with any of that. But that changed a few years ago for me. I got an insight to what social workers actually do to help others in everyday life. I want to share why I got an insight of what kind of people are in the social work category. My mom and step dad were in the middle of getting a divorce. My younger brothers wanted to be with their dad more than our mom. So, one day they were over at his house,
A social worker is someone who works for their community. I feel that I have been blessed living in a great city and I know that there are many who don’t have the privileges that I have and for that reason, I feel that it is my responsibility to help and give back. My parents didn’t have the best childhood which has shaped me into a better person today and I want to help those who need it so they don’t go on wrong paths like some of my family has. I understand that there are people who feel that they have no hope and I want to help those who feel hopeless find meaning in their lives and help them make changes. My family has always taught me to help others and educate myself so it would be possible for me accomplish any goals I have, becoming a social worker is one of those goals I will accomplish.
