A Career As A Social Worker

Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Never, never, be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.” Social workers should never be afraid to help someone in need. A career as a Social worker can be an educational and a life-changing career as they help change people’s lives for the better.
There was a really long process to make Social Workers known. In The Encyclopedia of Careers and Vocational Guidance, It provides the process it took to make social workers known. “By the late 1800s, many charitable organizations developed in U.S. and Canadian cities. With the development of these

organizations came a deeper insight into improving the conditions of the poor.”( Hopke, William E 558). With the help of Social workers, many poor people will have less of a struggle in life. Over time houses were built to help Social workers have a place to be closer to clients.
There are many requirements to become a social worker. Social workers have to have a lot of great qualities. They have to have at least half of the skills listed on “ Occupational Outlook Handbook, Social Worker.” U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2016, Such as Communication skills, emotional skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills are the required qualities of a social worker.” (Child). qualities Social workers can help others get through many things in their lives.

People are required to have these qualities to become a social worker.
There are a lot of things social workers are required to do while they work. Social workers have a lot of tasks to accomplish. They have to make sure their clients are stable enough to be alone and that they will not harm themselves or anyone else. Although most social workers work in an office, they may spend time visiting clients. School social workers may be assigned to multiple schools and travel around the school district to see students. “Understaffing and large caseloads may cause the work to be stressful. Social workers may work remotely through distance counseling, using videoconferencing or mobile technology to meet with clients and organize support and advocacy groups.”(Child). Social workers get a lot of cases to where they might have to travel. They can use the videoconferencing or mobile technology to contact and have meetings with their clients instead of driving to them. With having these things it saves gas money and they can call their clients whenever it is

needed.
Traveling is a big part of the job not all clients can travel to their social workers. “Social workers might not always work at a desk. Some Social workers have to drive to remote areas to make a home visit.”(Child). Most people do not have a way to get to their Social Workers. WIth Social workers traveling to their clients, they will be assured that they will have constant help whenever. Being a social worker a person must be willing to travel to help their clients. Social workers are never working alone. They always have someone working along with them. “Social workers have some co-workers if they work in a school they have students, teachers, the principle, and more.” (Child). No one can solve everyone's problems alone. With the help of other people during the job

can help the person that is having problems way more than just one person. Being a social worker a person must be willing to work with other people.
To become a social worker there is a lot of educational requirements. A person must have many degrees to be a social worker. “Knowing where you want to go in social work should greatly
influence your post-secondary education.

A four-year bachelor degree in social work or a related field is required for most entry-level positions. ... Students who want to become licensed clinical social workers need at least a master's degree in this discipline.” (Child). Schooling is a very important part of becoming a social worker. “Specialized training is required such as a bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, economics, and political science.” (Child). A person must take all of these classes to apply for a social work job. “To become a social worker someone has to have two years of supervised training.” (Child). Someone is required to have someone watch them for at least two years to see if the person is prepared and able to work with people's problems. “To prepare for a social work career, you should take courses in high school that will improve your communications skills, such as English, Speech, composition and foreign language. History, social studies, and sociology courses are important in understanding the concerns and issues of society. Limited work is available for those with only an associate’s degree, the most opportunities exist for people with more advanced degrees in social work.”(Hopke, William E 562). After all of this schooling, someone will be able to apply for a job. They must pass all of their schoolings first. “You have to have a masters degree in social work.” (Child). A social worker must have many degrees in science because they are

working with other people's mental health. With all of this schooling, a person will be able to get many jobs besides social work. Someone must be able and willing to take all of this schooling to be a social worker.

the average of $22.54 an hour. The annual median wage for a social worker is $60,230. A social worker makes $5,019 a month. Social workers make $22.54 an hour.” (Child). Raises don’t come that often. “The highest raise you can get is 10%.”(Child). Social workers work with major issues and they work many hours so they make lots of money doing their job. When a social worker makes this much money they will get to do many things outside of their jobs. A person who works as a social worker will make lots of money but they will work lots of hours to make the money. Social workers have many benefits to their jobs.
A social worker has many perks to their jobs.“Social workers only get two weeks for vacation the entire year.” (Child). The vacation may not be that long but as time goes they will earn a longer vacation. There are many perks of this job they are helping children and families get through problems in their lives. “Social worker get liability coverage for insurance.” (Child). With this insurance, a social worker will be covered if they are hurt on the job. “Whenever a social worker retires they are legally required to keep everything confidential including their old clients' names.”(Child). Social workers may not get a long vacation but they are always on call. When a social worker retires they are legally required to keep everything confidential. With a short vacation, it means a social worker will make more money. Also when they keep everything confidential they are still keeping other people safe and they are still respecting their wishes. To become a social worker someone must be able to handle the fact that the vacation time may not be the longest. On the other hand, they are still helping people with their lives.
There are many outlooks on being a Social worker. A social worker will have a few great things to look forward to while they work. “16% (much faster than average).”(Child). As time goes social work is becoming more popular. “More than a fifth of social care professionals are worried about

No one can really get a promotion for this job. They work with tons of different people with tons of different problems. Someone could get a raise up to 10%. Social work is becoming a more popular job as time goes. With social work becoming more popular more people can become a social worker. Social work is a popular job nowadays.
There are many requirements and qualities to be a social worker but with all of these qualities, they are going toward an amazing job. Social working has many great outlooks and perks during the job. Also, they get great things out of being a social worker. Social work is an educational and life-changing career. Imagine being the person who changes someone's life for the greater good.
