Why I Chose Social Work Essay

There are many reasons why I decided that I wanted to work in the social work profession. When I first enrolled in college, I was a nursing major with the mindset of becoming a neonatal nurse. When that did not go as planned, I decided to become a social work major because I knew I would receive the same reward of helping someone out and providing an individual with a better opportunity by lending him or her a hand. This was my first reason for choosing this career because I saw so many benefits from this profession. My second reason for was due to the fact that I want to help people during their time of need. There were times in my life where I needed guidance and it felt great to have someone there being compassionate and caring towards me.

For starters, I will be the first of my siblings to actually receive a degree from college. This will be a huge accomplishment for me because they motivate me to keep fighting despite the late nights, headaches, and tears I have worked through to get me where I am today. Second, I will learn so much information that I can apply when working with prospective clients. This is in regards to ethics, morals, how to communicate with clients, as well as setting up and conducting meetings with clients. At last, obtaining this degree will make me one step closer to my goal of working with either children or veterans as a social

First, I am a friendly person. Yet, sometimes I can be too friendly. What I have to do is set up boundaries so I do not seem like I am overwhelming the client or not seem genuine due to the fact that I am a friendly person. I have to set up boundaries. Another limitation is that I can sometimes be too emotionally attached. Not all of my clients will accept my services no matter how beneficial it is. This could be a problem and perhaps cause a toll on me emotionally. However, I have to learn to accept that not everyone will accept my help and that I did everything to the best of my ability to help that individual.
