Warm sand in your toes, breathing in the salty air and the feeling of a slight breeze dancing with your hair. February is usually looking out over a frozen lake, snow glistening as the sun is peeking out from the clouds. It’s quiet outside, the birds don’t chirp and the leaves don’t rustle. Now imagine waves crashing rhythmically against the sandy beach, seagulls chirping noisily, as if they don’t realize the racket they’re making. Your hair pulled loosely up into a messy bun, the wind tugging out the stray ends, the sun warming your skin. That’s the feeling I had, last year at my uncle’s wedding in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Everyone was gathered around as we watched the new Mr. & Mrs. Klinginsmith walked out, for the first time, man and wife. Seeing the smiles on their faces was truly something I will never forget. Everyone then gathered inside for the meal. Steak that was tender and juicy, it was paired with grilled shrimp that exploded with flavor and spices when you put it in your mouth. While everyone was enjoying their meals, all you heard was laughter, the clinking of knives and forks against the glass plates and glasses as they were hit together. There were speeches along with the meal, some being from my aunt and grandpa. Hearing how happy they were and all the memories and laughs in their speeches was something that you can’t makeup. Later as we were all gathered around, the breeze gently blowing at the table cloth and carrying the sound of laughter through the air it was the perfect setting for the bride and groom to have their first dance. The song was “Can’t Help Falling In Love” by Elvis Presley, and it felt as if the music was dancing right along with them. After the first dance, they pulled their kids out on the dance floor and they all had a dance together, only this one wasn’t slow, it was loud and fast paced and so much fun to watch.
