Nathan claims that international students usually stay within their own ethnic group is valid. However, Nathan claims that Americans do not make the effort to make friends with international
Graduating from school is only one of the essential tools for a young person to have a successful life. A person endures many long years of schooling, and then the graduation day finally arrives. That special day is one of the most momentous days in a young student’s life. Happiness and sadness are the two emotions a person will feel on that special day. A student will experience happiness because of a significant milestone that was completed in the student’s life. The sad emotions will arise because of a terrifying new chapter in the book of life that is about to begin. Both Bradley Whitford and His Holiness the Dalai Lama give their commencement speeches by using humor to relax the mood of the crowd, making light of their fame, and giving the usual words of wisdom to the graduating class of students.

Coming to the United States for college can introduce cultural differences that even the most prepared students might not anticipate. From campus life to classroom etiquette, US school can be quite a different experience from learning in other countries around the world. The historical development with in higher education has been a direct acclimation of the academic profession (Altbach et al., 2011). There is a long history among universities that has created many traditions. Of these traditions, the profession of academia has played a vital part of it all (Altbach et al., 2011). Shaping practically every movement in higher education, from instruction to research to institutional governance, Staffing has become a critical issue (American Federation of Teachers, 2007). Lail (2009) suggests that quality teaching has effects on the quality of its faculty. To reflect our nation ’ s social and political history, A historical outline of American higher education plays a significant role in telling the story of higher education’s legal and administrative difficulties. The U.S. tradition in higher education has always promoted a strong commitment to undergraduate education whether they had taken place in the eighteenth, nineteenth, twentieth, or twenty - first centuries (Thelin, 2003). In the early 21st century, higher education has become a competitive enterprise. In many countries students must compete for scarce places in universities and in all countries admission to the top institutions has become more difficult. Universities compete for status and ranking, and generally for funding from governmental or private sources. While competition has always been a force in academe and can help produce excellence, it can also contribute to a decline in a sense of academic community, mission and traditional values (Altbach et. al, 2009). Higher education is increasingly viewed as a major engine of economic development.
During our secondary data search, we were enlightened to the many issues, which face an international student when choosing a university. Finally, we would like to list some of the many reasons that an international student may choose a certain university.
International students face many different challenges when studying abroad. This is due to many factors. First they are living in a country very far away from their own. The country they are studying in also has a very different way of life than theirs. Also the laws in foreign country are much different than the laws in their own country. Due to that they face a lot of problems trying to adapt to this new culture. Me personally as an international student in the US studying in ASU have faced three particularly difficult challenges that I was able to overcome through time. In this essay I will explain how international students can overcome tough challenges and situations.
There are real personal and professional challenges in academics. Language issues cause international students difficulties in understanding their professors and understanding some concepts and definitions. For example, some professors in the United States expect class activities and discussions through class time, which students could be not familiar with to do. Also, international students can be too shy or scared to participate in class discussions and professors might not be able to understand what they need if they. (Academic Difficulties for International Students).
These issues are a responsibility for the universities and the students. What is more, university life is a critical period for the students in their higher education. However, this period is full of obstacles and challenges that may affect the students adjustment academically and socially in their new life. As well, these issues affect on the academic achievement for students especially International students since it is entirely different culture than their home country. One of the first adjustment problems and the most important one is English language proficiency, improving the English language by studying hard, motivation, adopt with group work, and ask the teacher for help when something is unclear will help the students to adjust. Also, the university can help its international students to improve their language by supporting them and provide excellent instructors, awareness programs about university life, counseling and advising programs. These strategies let the student communicate and involve more with the domestic student, residents, and the new community. For example, students with higher TOFEL scores looked more adjusted unlike those with lower scores Socially, the students need to make friendships with native students to get out of their circle, their people and know more new people and get the confident to express their feelings and

The American higher education system has always been deemed as the best in the world. Statistics consistently show that most Nobel winners received higher education in America and a majority of international students choose America as their dream county to study abroad. The standard of higher education in America is unique and unparalleled in many ways. However, it’s always hard to live up to a great reputation. The system suffers from deficits in many respects. For example, some scholars question the effectiveness of teaching and learning as the quality of graduated students is hardly satisfactory; also, the increase of cost and tuition is skyrocketing, which puts a huge burden on students and their parents; Therefore, accountability of higher education is doubted by a variety of individuals and groups. This research paper will better explore the American higher education through the following aspects:
