When you think of being a human service professional, what kinds of duties and responsibilities come to mind? Which are most interesting to you? What duties would you rather avoid if at all possible? When it comes down to working with children I think everything is possible. Being a human service professional you have to be ready to engage with people, whether that means engaging with their families, children, friends, even outsiders who have no relationship with the client. You have a duty to help in any way but to also keep a record of anything you did to try to help. You also have a duty to do your best to help them. In the video the man went on about having to do 3 intake interviews everyday to help access each client and figure out what is the best solution to help them. I believe that is the most interesting thing. Accessing someone in more ways than one and figuring out what's the best approach or solution to …show more content…
What are some strategies you think would be most helpful? Describe at least two. Being able to be flexible and efficient, especially when it comes to time management, can be very frustrating. The tasks can never seem to yield. But I tend to stick to the big guns, I do what I feel is necessary and cannot wait another day, as soon as possible. If it's overwhelming then go and seek help from colleagues or supervisors. It's always okay to ask for help. Another strategy is to buy a planner or create a to do list. I use this a lot. Working with children I have to plan in advance and sometimes I have to change what I do just to fit their needs. Using a planner I could jot down the change I made or the change that needs to be made. It helps me be efficient and confident. Think about the day-in and day-out schedule of a human service professional. How would you balance your personal and professional lives effectively? Include a definition of what "balance" means to

This essay aims to explore the characteristics that make a good quality social work assessment in child care. Martin (2010) stated that there was “no single agreed definition of social work assessment.” Coulshed and Orme (2006, p24) did not offer a formal definition but they described assessment as “…a basis for planning what needs to be done to maintain, improve or bring about change in the person, the environment or both.” According to the Maclean and Harrison (2015) good assessments must be “purposeful and timely.” This is because practitioners need to be clear about why they are carrying out assessments and what it is they wish to achieve at the end of that assessment.
I benefit from making lists and staying organized, so I will first make a list or plan of things that need done. Planning for pleasure is an important part for me to relieve stress, so I will ensure there is time for family and exercise. Lastly, seeking advice always helps me sort things out, so I will be open to ask others for suggestions or to lend an ear.
As a professional one must practice personal reflection and self-correction to assure continual professional development. As the social worker, I would identify my areas of strength as well as areas where improvement is needed, seek and act on corrective feedback from my supervisor or mentors, establish effective working relationships with clients and peers, and seek to resolve identified problems with performance of professional responsibilities. I would also make sure I practice within my area of competence by developing and enhancing my professional

On any given day, my time regardless of how planned it is by making lists can be thrown off track due to usually a sick child/pet. No matter how hard I try, I know my kids will get sick and they will expect me to take care of. Since I cannot usually control when that will happen, it’s important that I take advantage of what I can control, such looking ahead at assignments that will need my attention to plan adequate time to complete assignments a head of time, instead of waiting till the last minute. When I know what to expect I can make plans. Another
Looking at my own approach to time management I have noticed that I am well organised and good at prioritising tasks and jobs. When I log onto my computer to start my shift I am sent down numerous jobs, each job is different and has different deadlines for attendance and completion. I plan my day based around the date and time deadlines of the jobs and also the locations of the jobs. I then schedule the most effective order of completing the jobs, putting high priority jobs at the top of my list and grouping sites that are geographically close to each other. By effectively planning my day I keep a focused attitude towards my work and I have time to think about tasks and situations, rather tha...
"Do not become a social worker. You will not make any money and you will be stressed out all the time." My maternal grandparents were foster care parents from the 1980 's until April of this year. In that time they hosted over 250 children from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. As a child, I spent much of my time at my grandparents house and was exposed to the multiple aspects of the foster care system. I became close with the social workers who came to my grandmother 's house and when it came time for me to make a career choice, they all discouraged me from becoming a social worker. Despite their warnings I graduated with my Bachelor 's of Social Work from Saint Louis University in 2013 and began to work on my Master 's in Social Work in August of 2014.
Why do you want to become a master's level social worker? I want to become a master’s level social worker because I would like to work in the healthcare; hospital setting after I graduated. According to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), a master’s degree in Social Work is often required for social work positions in health care. Health care social workers most often work in hospitals: anything from pediatrics to oncology. The social worker caseload includes people who need to come to grips with difficult diagnoses, locate resources, and make life’s immense decisions.
I also carry a planner with me, whether I really want to or not. Inside the planner lives my life, my daily plans, my to do lists, and even my own personal due dates. It fuels my need to be doing something every minute of every day. There is always something that I could do, should do. And, maybe I’ll do it later. Because doing something doesn’t mean finishing homework or that essay that really should’ve been written last week. Sometimes, it means pausing to enjoy the mastery of a song, getting caught up on that new television show, or even
