If the CNP holds a certificate to prescribe he or she may prescribe medications and therapeutic devices (Ohio Nurse Practice Act, 2001/2013). To obtain authority to prescribe a CNP must complete an externship that is supervised by a physician in order to expand their experience with medications and therapeutic devices (Ohio Nurse Practice Act, 2001/2013). Under the ORC are detailed laws on how a CNP may prescribe medications and therapeutic devices in Ohio. For example, a scheduled II medication may be prescribed if all of the following are present; the patient is terminal, the collaborating physician initially prescribed the medication to the patient and the prescription is for an amount for 24 hours (Ohio Nurse Practice Act, 2001/2013). Although there are exceptions, the previous stated restrictions for scheduled II medications do not apply if in settings such as; a hospital, nursing home, a facility for mental health, hospice, ambulatory surgery facility or freestanding birthing center (Ohio Nurse Practice Act, 2001/2013). I benefit from making lists and staying organized, so I will first make a list or plan of things that need done. Planning for pleasure is an important part for me to relieve stress, so I will ensure there is time for family and exercise. 6. What are your goals and objectives for your fist, second and third months in your new position as well as the remainder of the year? In the first month I hope to become acclimated with the new surroundings and staff. I would also hope to have found a mentor to confide in. By the end of the second month my goal is to feel confident that this a good fit and that I agree with the policies of the practice. In the third month I hope to have adopted a fluent routine and that I feel like I am gaining new and valuable knowledge. For the remainder of the year I hope to become more independent and have the confidence that strong skills are forming. Also, by the end of my first year my goal is to considered or close to an advanced beginner.
