The career and specific position that I am looking to one day hold is that of a Human Resource Manager. I love working in a office setting, especially the set schedule that working in a office provides. I also like interacting with other people and solving problems. But I do not always love working with the general public and since a human resource manager mostly works with internal co-workers and clients I feel this career will suit me well. Human resource managers require customer service skills in every aspect of their job. According to The Balance human resource managers interact with nearly every single employee in a company including the CEO in some cases. They are responsible for an array of duties ranging from overseeing event sponsoring to …show more content…
This same job requirement also requires the human resource manager to actually listen to the person talking. Without actually listening to the person talking it is entirely possible for the human resource manager to miss a crucial detail in being able to fully get to the bottom of the expressed concern and then of course find the solution. The humans resource manager also needs the ability to see things from other people's perspectives. For example, when establishing a in house training program the human resource manager needs to view the peoples jobs from their perspective, taking into account the hours they work, which programs they use and which other departments they interact with and when. If I were trying to create a universal group webinar time I would not plan it when half the departments are out to lunch or when only department heads are in a meeting. If I did that I would be excluding tons of people. This also falls into diplomatic skills as well. Employees want to be treated fairly and it is not fair to expect one person to do something and not another. By not having the department heads in the webinar I could possibly be showing that those managers

An organizational human resources department utilizes the hiring and firing process to meet the organization’s personnel needs. Organizational human resource departments are charged with the oversight of an organizations administration department. The practice of hiring and firing people is a process employer’s conducts on a daily basis. This process has to be done in a proper manner and not in haste. The implication that can occur from the improper hiring and firing process could and can have a positive or negative impact on an organization. Therefore, employers must carefully evaluate their decision to hire/fire individuals and its impact on the organizations’ workplace environment and others employees. Human Resource Management is important for an effective organization. In today’s organization, HRM is valuable to the organization because of increase legal complexities and its known for improvement in productivity. However, management should realize that poor human resource management could result in an outburst of hiring process followed by firing or layoffs. According to (Satterlee 2013, p. 194), “Hiring the best candidate who is also a good fit for the organization is crucial for the success of an organization, because a poor hiring decision will have repercussions across the entire organization”. Satterlee made a valid point because poor hiring could have an impact on the bottom line performance of the firm. In other words, HRM is the contributing factor to the success of the organization including motivating and maintain the staffs. The purpose to the motivation is to ensure that all employees grow to a full potential. According to (Sims 2006, p. 5), “HRM efforts are planned, systematic approaches to increasing organizati...
Giving the speaker your undivided attention can help you focus on the important key elements of the message being sent, it allows you to ask questions that will enhance the communication process. Active listing can enhance relationships because it shows you actually care about what the other person has to say; people feel cared for when someone cares enough to listen and pay attention to what they have to say. It can also help you calm a person who is feeling very upset about a situation. Active listening is an important part of customer service, people with great customer service listen to a customer, ask clarifying questions, empathize, and offer potential solutions. Thus, calming an upset customer or showing them their business is appreciated (Janasz, 2006,
There must be complete honesty and understanding between the hourly worker and management if high efficiency is to be obtained”. This shows how harmoniously the labor and management have to work together to produce success.
Verbal and written communication skills are important competencies in the workplace, as much as 33 percent of the day is spent listening (Walker, R., 2015). Although a significant amount of our time is spent listening, this is a misunderstood skill often overlooked by professionals. “The ability to listen effectively can have a big impact on our ability to communicate well with others. Effective listening can help us build relationships, be more productive, and determine whether others are being deceptive” (Walker, R., 2015). To be an effective manager, teacher, collaborator, or leader one must be an effective listener. Effective listening is processing the information given to you by a speaker, showing that you are listening and attentive.
At my organization, the City, managers look to HR to provide effective staff. Managers at the City are often employees who have worked their way up the career ladder and achieved promotions through proven skill, education and ability. They are not schooled in the field of human resources. The managers rely on HR to help satisfy staffing needs for departments and to help determine how best to use existing human assets. HR can determine if existing staff can be used, create a business case for a new position or job description and develop processes for identifying suitable employees. The expectation is that HR be able to identify qua...
