During my last semester at college, I postponed thinking about preparing for my tests. As each test day came closer, I got worried and desperately started cramming. I drank enough coffee to keep the whole city awake and woke up thinking that I would get a low grade. Eventually, I realized that students who always earned A's on their tests were not just lucky, but they really studied hard all through the semester. There are different ways to prepare for a specific test, and each individual must perfect his or her own style. I have developed a process that involves five steps to prepare for a test.
First, you should find out about the format of each specific test by asking the teacher various questions. Ask what type of questions will appear on the test, and if they will be true or false, multiple choice, fill in, essay or all of these. This goes along with the scientific study mentioned in the article that students who had two studying sessions did exceptionally well on a test given right after the sessions, but gradually forgot the material (Carey, 2010). An additional studying condition I have is to do practice problems and tests on the material I will be tested on. This connects to the reading for the reason that I am being exposed to a variety of problems, which, according to the text, is a brilliant way to review. In my classroom I would implement take pre-test for homework and/or extra credit assignments, as well as implement classroom activities such as games where testing occurs in a communal group setting. The test taking lessons have helped me learn more about having good strategies for a test. I feel that with these lessons learned I can have more confidence to take a test and pass it. In this report I want to show why test taking is an important skill to learn. I also wanted to describe how I have prepared for test in the past. I also wanted to discuss three strategies I have learned from the computer tutorial in class and how I have changed my study habits so I can do better on test.

The next day’s test turns out to be satisfactorily completed (as usual), though I know I could have performed better. My rather eventful night did not become my excuse for an unsatisfactory grade, but rather a pathetic justification for not seeking to achieve my finest. To the benefit of myself, I don’t particularly need to study a great deal, or even at all. I am sure this fact only lends itself to my consistently inadequate study habits.

I was sitting in my biology class barely about to fall asleep, when I glanced to my right and found that half my class had already beat me to it. This was actually surprising for me, being in an advanced class and seeing all these bright students with amazing grades burrowing their heads into their folded arms, avoiding eye contact with the teacher, hoping that they can get some shut eye for at least thirty seconds maybe a minute if they are lucky. This spectacle of seeing students who were considered intelligent, sleeping in class begged the question, how. They could study after the class, but that would seem counter productive, not to mention that these high caliber students probably have other activities. This must mean that they study just enough are the right amount before the test, in order to succeed on that “multiple guess” tests, and get by with rudimentary knowledge of whats occurring in the class. This means that they don’t actually know what has been taught to them, which agin begs another question, are these students smart, or just good at preparing for tests.
Cramming has been an established habit among a wide spectrum of individuals. This term simply means “to pack tight” or to prepare for an imminent task in a hasty and intensive manner (Merriam-Webster, 2013). Old or young, diligent or unenthusiastic, all kinds of people may have encountered this activity at least once in their lives. However, in different niches, the opinion on cramming is divided. In the academe, especially among pupils, deciding whether to cram or not has usually been difficult. It has already been adopted by students despite the consistent dissuading studies make. Although some students believe cramming saves time and lets them perform well, cramming actually wastes time and is not an effective learning tool in the long run.
Some experts feel that short-term cramming might not affect aptitude test scores. However, long-term instruction in broad cognitive skills might improve general test performance. Cognitive theory and research suggest that learning ability can be improved by training students in learning strategies. Improving academic aptitude may be possible through a systematic curriculum that complements direct training in learning strategies with both the development of general thinking approaches and the application of those approaches over a variety of different tasks and content areas.
