How to Be Well Prepared For an Approaching Exam Getting prepared for an exam can be really frustrating at times since all you have to do is study but the question is, how do you approach it? The rate at which you study determines how committed you are to your coursework. You can easily decide not to study and sleep all night but you choose to study anyway. Few people like exams, but if you think carefully about how to approach them, they can be easy to tackle than you can imagine. Many people find that they need to adapt to their learning so as a result, they tend to seek these learning strategies to excel in school. Therefore, I need to strengthen my knowledge so I won't have missing links, have the right knowledge for any situation I encounter, and master the use of time management. When it comes to textbook reading, preparation is just as important as reading the material. It is easy to find yourself just reading the textbook and then looking back at what your read and not remembering anything you just read. Not every class demands a thorough reading of the textbook, so it is very important to ask the professor to see what he/she will be testing on, either notes in class or the readings form the textbook. Test taking is one of the most important things to have good skills at. Test usually have a significant effect on your grade. The more you are used to test and are prepared for different types of test, the better your grade will be. I know that when I take test, I get vary nervous and I cant concentrate, but when I have the feeling of being prepared for the test, I notice that I am not so nervous when I come to take it. You should always find time to improve your test taking methods, personally I try to devote one whole hour the night before a big test so I can remember a lot the next day. In school you will have various test that some will be easy and some will be vary difficult, you should always be mentally prepared to take whatever test they give you.
A goal I have for academics is to not fail any quizzes or tests. One way I can do this is to study before every quiz and test. I can do this by making a good study guide and good notes for myself. I will also ask many questions so I can so I can know all the information. If I am confused on a question, I should ask questions so I can understand what will be asked on the test. One of the most important things I need to do to help my test grade is pay attention in class. If I take plenty of notes and listen to the lesson, I will have resources to study off of so I will do well. This year, I should do well on all of my tests and quizzes as long as I study, pay attention in class, and ask plenty of questions.

I will high light key phrases or things that I know that is important to remember. I will go through my notes, my text book, lectures from class ect., and I will take pieces of information from different topics. These pieces of information are usually important to me, because they will remind me of other material that I just can not get stored into my memory, and fills in the blanks for me. Chunking works for me when I have so much material to try to remember that seems impossible to obtain it all, just chuck the info and viola, you will be prepared for the test, or to have the knowledge you
Personally, I am an advocate for cramming the day before the test, but not right before bed. Instead, I study first, do a little bit of homework, study some more, finish my homework, and then study once again. If I study a little bit each night, by the fourth or fifth night I will begin to feel as if I have over-studied and then begin mixing up each piece of information. In this essay, I have compared and contrasted both methods and it should be much easier for each student to choose a way that works best for them. Both methods can be effective, it just depends on the students’ personality in general.
Revising for this of exams will probably involve learning large amounts of information. When organising your notes, pay particular attention to fundamental terms and concepts that describe important events or features, or how it relate ideas together. Start as early as possible so that you can keep revisiting the information you need to learn. Additionally, Ms. Fellows hands out practice questions before the exam. It is important to understand what the question is asking and making sure you are answering the question. If the question is asking you to explain something, make sure you provide an example to support your reasoning. This section is a lot more difficult and you will need to be very thoughtful when answering the questions. However, on this portion of the test you may earn partial credit if you half answered the
NZTC (2015) states that stress is one of the biggest factor that can affect a student’s study this is due to the pressure of the high demand of their time. Being stressed affects you mentally, socially and physically and have many negative side effects a few of these are exhaustion, headaches, sleeplessness and loss of appetite. Stress isn’t good for your health or well-being, this is why it is important to identify any causes of stress and to have strategies that will help manage stress. Going to the doctor for advice, searching the internet and seeking help from student support are some of the strategies that can help you deal with stress. (NZTC, 2015) There are many different steps that you can use to help reduce stress the only problem is finding the right ones for you. One of those steps that I will be using, is to break down your work load into smaller tasks that are manageable and can be prioritized easily. Another of the steps could be to use physical activities to help work off stress, or I could use yoga and breathing exercises to help control stress and helps you to relax. Everyone deals with stress at some point in his or her life. Most people deal with it daily. As defined in the book called Principles and Labs for Fitness and Wellness, stress is, “The mental, emotional, and physiological response of the body to any situation that is new, threatening, frightening, or exciting” (Hoeger & Hoeger, 2012). This stress is caused by a stressor, which is also known as “a stress-causing event” (Hoeger & Hoeger, 2012). Stressors can take all different forms, from moving to a new town, having a baby, or even writing a paper (Boyd, Wood, & Wood, 2011). One major stressor in life can be going to college. If not coped with properly, these stressors can leave a person with too much stress that could end up harming them mentally and physically, such as developing an illness (Boyd, Wood, & Wood, 2011). There are several ways to cope with stress. Some healthy ways to cope with stress would be practicing emotion-focused coping, building time-management techniques, and practicing meditation.
During this course I learned many stress management techniques. One of the first stress management techniques I learned was creating a list of things to do in order of importance. Before using this technique I left things to do all at once. This technique helped me by equaling out my work load. Another technique for stress I learned was yoga. Well to begin with there are many ways to improve ones memory when it comes to taking a an examination. One of them being the depth of processing. The depth of processing is basically the more deeply we process information the better we tend to remember it. There are three verbal levels, one being visual, phonological and semantic. Visual and phonological are the two most shallow. So, for me to study and remember the information it would need to go into my semantic. A good way semantic can help with remembering information is by emphasizing what you are reading and by doing so it helps you create deeper levels of processing and it would endure longer in your long term memory.
